Two schools of thought.

(A) Great keeper, superb pedigree, but who is a victim of politics at Real Mad.

or

(B) Lost his touch, rightfully dropped and dressing room troublemaker

Of course maybe both are true to some extent.

I'm a bit doubtful that we would make a run at Iker. Seems like Woj has this job long-term at this point. If the belief is there from the club that Woj is the man than bringing Casillas in could unsettle Woj.

Chance to get a player with a decade on Woj? No takers?

I will take him any day,.. and if that means unsettling Woj so be it! Woj just have to rise above the competition rather than hope the sticks be handed to him,..

With Casillas, you have to wonder about form now. He's not starting anymore at RM so if we did get him and plug him in right away, would he be ready to do that?

I do think Casillas will go somewhere in January. He has to wonder if his starting spot on the Spanish team is in jeopardy. Del Bosque remains a huge fan of him but not playing every week at club level has to start the doubts creeping about what form he'd have if he remained rooted to the bench at RM all season.

Sure, but there's also the case of spending a lot of valuable resources ($$$) on an area which we don't need strengthening. You're not likely to sign Casillas unless you expect him to be your first choice.
It is also the wrong way to go about things. You give your young players a chance, you don't block their way to a good career by bringing a big name in and unrealistically telling them to somehow rise up to the challenge. They won't. They'll simply leave for more playing time, and then play for your rivals in a few years time when they've developed.

Maybe in other positions you can do that, because there's multiple spots and rotation. If we had brought in a midfielder to replace Ramsey/Wilshere last year I wouldn't have complained. They'd still get a chance to play now and then.

If you bring in Casillas you're pretty much telling Szczesny he has no future here. I think the approach we have taken with scouting talented keepers like Viviano and bringing them in to challenge Szczesny is better. That can develop into a healthy competition.

No, look at Diego, he upstaged the 'great' Casillas! Quality will and should always prevail over .. If Woj is the better quality he will and should rightly retain the sticks. At this level, competition is healthy irrespective of the age-difference.

Anyway, Woj has been playimg well in a team that is playing well and Casillas is more likely to stay and fight for his place. That means Arsenal most likely won't be bothered,..

There's a bit of a difference between Diego Lopez coming in to compete against a perhaps out of form Casillas, and a big name Casillas coming in to replace a 23 year old youngster who is still learning, and not earning anywhere close to what an experienced
The premise of my argument was that Casillas would only be a worth it from the AFC point of view and his own point of view if he came in as a definite first choice. And if that happens then it's a problem.
But yeah, I agree that neither party would really be interested in this transfer.
