We will not win this group. That was a costly goal from the Pole. Even if we are lucky enough to finish second, our Round of 16 opponents would be 5 possibilities: Barca/Real/PSG/Bayern and Athletico Madrid. We will have NO CHANCE with the first 4 opponents. I am so fucking sick of losing to either Barca or Bayern every fucking season. Different movie but same fucking scripts from Wenger every season
Dream - Feeling better after a Beer and a nights sleep!? You'll be fine
Thanks Kamy, you are always my pal. I love reading your posts. I'm not fuming anymore after 44 hours but really really disappointed. Before I am buried 6 feet under, I would really want to see my Arsenal winning the ultimate trophy in football. I really don't think Wenger will ever win it for us and here he is poised to sign another extension after failing to win it after 17 attempts. He can produce 3 consecutive invincible league winning teams and go 94 games unbeaten but before the acheivement of winning the CL, he is not in the same league as Heynckes, Guardiola, Mourinho and Ferguson. Why not taking a chance on a guy like Klopp? Especially if we go trophyless again this season (we are almost half way there with CL and League Cup evaporating) and making it almost a decade without winning anything. I would love to see Wenger proving me wrong and I'm praying every day that he is the man to win this competition for Arsenal. So far it's just disappontments after disappoitments. Not even if we slaugher Palace this weekend with 6 Wilshere Norwich like goals would erase my disappointment from Tuesday night. I just get reminded every season that we are just simply not good enough to win the CL ever.
Step away from the ledge, bro. I'm still bullish on our chances of advancing from this group, and if we do, we'll have been much better for the experience come the knockout stages. Also, I wouldn't be so sure Wenger is going to extend his contract. This season may be the end of the road for him (I hope it's not). If the club does part ways with him, I'm sure Klopp would be near the top of their list. But if Wenger continues, I think you can expect him to continue building a side that is capable of winning the CL. It's practically the only thing missing from his CV.
Thanks Bro. I didn't mean to trivialize Wenger's 49 games unbeaten record. I'm just frustrated and I hope you are right about our chances this season to win the CL as I'm not confident at all. As a change agent for my company, I'm not afraid of changes to make our team more competitive. I'm not worried about losing Wenger as long as we go all out to get the best replacement in the market place. No worries, dude. We're used to seeing you do this about once or twice a season

CL Dream! My LA friend! Winning the CL. Its a dream all right. But my heart will stay with this team and wont give up on the CL, especially if Wenger buys a decent backup striker this winter and our players don't fall like flies with injuries.
But by head says that CL this year would be a step too far for this team. Kamy man, have we settled for a back-up only? I know Suarez is a ultra priick. Why not him though? Why not somebody at that level? We have Giroud as a back-up and Bendy as a third string. We need a starter in my humble opinion. When we get that starter (Suarez since he's not cup tied), join me in Lisbon next May for that vegetarian paella you promised when we are in the CL final.

What's our best hope of qualifying out of this group now? I'm not as confident as a few others here so I've been considering the permutations.
If Napoli lose at Dortmund, draw against us at home, and beat Marseille at home, they'll have 10 points.
If Dortmund beat Napoli at home, beat us at home, and beat Marseille away, they'll have 15 points.
If we draw Napoli away, lose to Dortmund away, and beat Marseille at home, we'll have 10 points.
So the home game against Marseille now becomes must win. And we must hope that Dortmund now beat Napoli and we can get at least a 1 or 2 points from our remaining away games. And also maybe by some miracle Marseille can nick points off of Napoli and Dortmund.

I feel like the Champions League is as wide open as I can remember. Real Madrid has definitely taken a step back, and I wonder if Barcelona can continue to ride Xavi, Puyol, and Messi so hard. PSG has looked bright but they haven't really played anyone, have they? It pains me to say it but Chelsea might be a solid darkhorse under Mourinho. I don't see them putting it together for the Prem but they have plenty of quality and experience.
Of course we can't forget Bayern, who have the quality to walk it this year.

I expected to drop three points to Dortmund (don't really think home advantage is big in that fixture simply because of playing styles), but was more worried about Napoli before than I am now.
We get draws against Napoli and Dortmund and beat Marseille handily and I think it's a foregone conclusion we're through (probably as runners-up though). I think we are well capable of getting 3 points in Naples or Dortmund though.

In all fairness though this group was the best way to prep Arsenal in the latter stages. Usually we would have very winnable groups. This forces the team to raise their game rather than going through the motions. The football Gods weren't with us in the 2006 cl final and the team were so damn close. The persistent fouling on Henry made me pissed off yet Henry performed one clean tackle and he got booked.
All history now, but I don't see anything wrong with Klopp replacing Wenger. It's hard on any man mentally let alone a 64 year old one.

In the scenario of Napoli and Arsenal finishing with 10 points, we will advance no matter what the goal difference is. We would have the head to head advantage. I am 100% with your sentiment, that's why I was so furious. That was a HUGE goal from their Pole. HUGE. That was a swing of finishing top or not qualifying at all. We must now win at Dortmund to top the group. Wenger NEVER talked about the scenarios at half time. NEVER. Mourinhno or even AVB would have had white boards all over the dressing room to go over each and every scenario and BEAT all the details to death. EVERY INCE of the details. When you saw Giroud throwing his shirt after drawing Reading last year at the League Cup thinking that the game was over with no over time. You know Wenger adopts a lassez-faire approach. At least he should have gone over this with his captain and co-captain. I would HATE to see City or even Spurs to win this competition before us.

This is the most logical thing I've read about the Dortmund match, courtesy of Tim Stillman (@LittleDutchVA): http://arseblog.com/2013/10/controllable-marginal/

Dream, Poo will never sell Suarez to us. Its going to be very difficult to get a top player in the winter. I have no hopes of that happening.
Well, unless Wenger tempts Dortmund with a 30 million pound offer for Lewandowski.
So a decent backup like Llorente would do nicely. Heard he is unsettled in Juve. I love the player. I support Bilbao in La Liga and boy do we miss him.
