Let's hope Wenger can yet again turn a very good player into a great one: http://news.arseblog.com/2013/10/wenger-calls-on-podolski-to-up-his-game/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook |

You always feel there is more with Podolski. When he returns he should be moved to CF to give Giroud a break. |

Giroud definitely needs a match off. He can't keep playing at the rate he currently is without some fatigue or injury happening. |

That's the problem. Podolski hasn't looked remotely comfortable in that role. |

He wasnt' awful either. Wenger said he was working a lot with him as a central striker. What's lacking, besides his heading ability, is his movement off the ball. He needs to be making those near post runs, running the channels and stretching defences. He needs to play off the shoulder more and get in behind defences. That's a big part of the extra 10-20% that can come from him. Wenger can improve him but it's also down to him working hard and listening. van Persie was also not a very comfortable no.9. He would roam all over the place and liked to drop back and create. Wenger eventually turned him more into a penalty box player. While in the past he was never a goalscorer suddenly at around 28 years old he turned into a prolific one. His movement is immense. He's learned where exactly to be to score goals. His weak foot is massively improved. His newfound heading ability also gave him another dimension. Podolski, at 27, still has time to improve on these aspects. He's so, so lethal with his finishing inside the box. If he can find a way to get in there more often he'll be transformed. |

I agree with all of that, except I would argue van Persie was already a more complete player at 27. RvP always showed a sublime ability to combine with his teammates by varying his passes. I'm not sure Podolski has that much in his locker. Time will tell, I suppose. |

Well, RvP was a really really good player. Podolski not quite at the same level, but he can be an incredible goalscorer as well, IF he can improve on his weak areas. Wenger had Adebayor scoring 30 goals a season so it's not out of the question to think that Giroud and Podolski could both make big jumps during their time here. |

Oh, I'll answer that. It's Wenger himself who challenges Wenger. The man is a top notch manager with a tremendous competitive fire burning within, a fire hot enough that it heats up his own arse and keeps him moving forward for the betterment of The Arsenal. |
