What is really wrong with threads like this is we are talking of a team being on top of the league after 8 games of a 38 game season. I also think it is quite pointless that people are comparing our results from equivalent fixtures last season (I saw Gary Nevelle make that comparison) and then comparing the fixtures that we have to come. I dont think any team has ever won their first 8 league games in a season. I also dont expect Arsenal to be that poor in the more difficult fixtures as we were last season. The season is a grind and the team that grinds out the most ends up winning.
So when there is a bad run we are not to show restraint. However, if there is a good run we are. Amazeballs.
but phato is spot on, we've played only one-fifth of the league and we are already discussing this? I get Phato's general point, but isn't picking apart Arsenal what we were meant to do here?

Though it is well too early to draw definitive conclusions about the side such as their overall quality or eventual league position, it's never too early to analyze what's already happened, be that one match or over 20% of the season as in this case.

Thank you! As if there is some minimum number of games required before starting discussion of the team's prospects. Assessment, analysis, speculation and prognostication (wow - try saying that quickly) are what we do here.

but phato is spot on, we've played only one-fifth of the league and we are already discussing this? The article asks and answers why we are top of the league. Asking who is top of the league and how they got there is a currency issue which you have to expect all the time. Nobody on the board is carried away. If they were Phato might have a point. The teams we've beaten are in the positions they are in at this early stage in huge part because we denied them 3 points, or in most cases denied them any points. The teams we've played are the middle and bottom feeder, nevertheless we have shown a pattern of being able to win against them in all manners of conditions. I am happy that we have a head of steam built up by the time we play Chelsea.

I don't see anything wrong with assessing where we are at this point in the season and doing some speculating. That's what we do here. Some of us were ready to call the season over after losing to Villa on opening day. LOL

Santry I am not going to overreact if we lose a game this season because I know there are up and downs in the season and I dont expect Arsenal to go the entire season without losing a game. The only time I would be frustrated is if we lose to a team that would be facing relegation this season, those are the ones that you just cant drop and we have had a lot of those disastrous results against teams at the bottom of the table in recent years. If by bad run you mean lose 3-4 games on the trot then that is cause for concern because realistically you can only afford to lose 3-4 games during the entire season if you want to win the league. I believe we are a good team and I am excited about this run but being on top of the league after 8 games doesn't mean much. In 2007/2008 season we had a 5 point lead for nearly the entire season but a bad run in the month of March cost us the entire season.

Phato, please read what jays said, anyone reacting in extreme ways is asking to be considered a fool.
I have no problem with anyone being skeptical of the credentials of the team. They are, as you rightly say, going to lose a few games at some point. At the same time those of us who saw players visibly improve last year after February and are willing to acknowledge an improvement before Özil are rightly allowed to believe a harder core of coherence in the team.
Making comparisons to the team that was kicked/cheated/swindled out of a match, and ultimately their form at St. Andrews in 2009 is also premature.
