It's not about opening the checkbook. If it were that simple Chelsea would have a proper striker signed already. Man City would have a midfielder lined up. And Man Utd would be out there spending their 200m or however much they've got.

We know it's difficult to sign players in January for 2 reasons:

1. Players don't want to leave their clubs midseason, and clubs don't want to sell important players midseason. They want to acheive their goals. Unless clubs like Malaga need $$$ desperately they don't sell their important players.

2. Following from 1, the players that are playing well aren't available, so you're left with either stop-gap solutions or gambles on injured/out-of-form players that might offer you something.

At this point, that's probably the best we can hope for. A loan or a stop-gap like Berbatov. Last January we tried a similar signing in david Villa. It wouldn't be a bad option to bring in someone like that.
A loan for Morata or a 6 month deal for Berbatov sounds pretty good.

But honestly, I'd be ok with us giving Gnabry and Ox a chance. They've done well so far and grooming them now can help us next season.

And I'd especially be ok with it if our activity now in any way hampers what we do in the summer. I don't want us to sign a mediocre striker and then not be able to sign the big one we're hopeing for.

After reading ur post, I agree with this. We dont want to sign a Jose Antonia Reyes and suffer next season.

Id love to see what OX or Gnnabry can do in that CF position.
Gnnabry was impressive when he was switched to the center.

A loan deal, preferably from an EPL club would be perfect....

I give it a 10% chance of us bringing in anyone of consequence this month. Has nothing to do with being able to spend money. Just the market isn't that great this time of year.

We loan Ryo , and all the youngsters we can find to Crystal place. And in return they can loan us . Wait for it. Wait for it .

Marounne Chamakh !!!!

*not deliberately stirring shit though * but Chamakh does know how to play in this Arsenal system as a non scoring target man, with a fantastic midfield behind him. haha

Here's Jennifer Lawrence's take on it:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/jan/07/arsenal-injuries-theo-walcott-arsene-wenger

Quote:

Recently Wenger suggested they were more likely to go for a short-term solution to the question of cover for Giroud, but the Walcott situation has challenged that mindset. This January there is a strong will to buy a player who will enhance their title challenge if they can.

Even though he has long held the opinion that it is a bad time to buy, he may be tempted to overspend if the right player, and seller, will come to the negotiating table.

And if not? He will fall back on the options in his squad, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who is close to a return to the action for the first time since the opening day of the season, and Serge Gnabry, the teenager who excelled over the weekend against Tottenham, earmarked to share the load.

Um, that's Amy Lawrence. Stop getting me all worked up.

Anyway, the key quote for me is in the conclusion. It summarizes the pluses and minuses as well as suggesting the most likely outcome:

For all of the encouraging talent of Gnabry, and hopes over the return of Oxlade-Chamberlain after a six-month rehabilitation of his own, it will be a big challenge to expect them to have as consistent an impact. Gnabry is 18, with two Premier League starts to his name. Oxlade-Chamberlain is 20, with fewer than 20 Premier League starts. Both players are powerful, talented, and have bright futures. Wenger may well entrust them to seize this opportunity.

But to be honest, I think Gnabry and Ox could definitely step up and grab this opportunity. They have the talent and they have the character to do it.

It seems, however, that we are seriously interested in bringing in Draxler. Rumors are that he was escorted around the Emirates. I highly doubt that but it seems we were definitely keen on bringing him in this coming summer so we've decided to push the deal up and try to bring him in now.

I think Draxler is a great player, but I guess I don't understand the interest. If we buy him, we now have three high quality players competing for that LW spot. Podolski may never see the field again...unless he literally IS the cover for Giroud (which we've seen may not be the answer unless he can reinvent his game a bit). I guess Draxler's age is something to consider, though, as he's quite a bit younger than either of Cazorla or Poldi.

I think Podolski could be sold during the summer.
