It's too bad Bendtner was injured during his goal. Aside from his one terrible performance against Chel$ea in the CoC, he's done exactly what a backup striker is supposed to do. I wonder if some (one in particular) on here will admit that they were wrong about him. Or maybe we should beat the Dzeko dead horse some more... I'm guessing this post is directed at me, what exactly did I get wrong? that Bendtner is crap? one fluke 15 mins cameo against a relegation candidate aint gonna change my mind about this absolute liability. Dzeko? dead horse? The Dzeko issue came up just few weeks ago and as recent as 4-5 days ago his name was on everyone lips as the obvious candidate to go for THIS january. Meanwhile we've been beating the kalou>RVP dead horse for like 10 years now.

There's not alot out there that we can hope to get other than a useful backup.

Its really a waste of time discussing the likelihood of any player from Manc City, Manchester Utd or Chelsea coming to Arsenal. We are currently top of the league and those teams would like to win the league, they won't be selling us any players.
We won't be getting players like Benzema or Diego Costa either, this is a January transfer window and teams that are chasing league titles are not quick to sell key players. Atl Madrid are currently 2nd in La Liga, tied with Barcelona on 46 points.

The Sun is really pushing the Berbatov to Arsenal rumour, there are also rumours that we are in for Remy from Castle as well.
Berbatov would not be a bad signing, in terms of technical ability, he is better than Giroud and he's hold up play is very good. However he won't work as hard as Giroud and probably won't have as much aerial presence.
One thing we all realized with the game yesterday when we played Podolski upfront is that while Giroud has had his goal droughts, he actually leads the line quite well, much better than Podolski for sure. That is because he moves well off the ball, he wins most of the aerial balls, he holds up the ball well and in doing these things he creates space for his team mates, he's link up play is actually good.
I doubt Wenger is thinking right now that he needs to sign a striker who will relegate Giroud to the bench, he probably wants someone who would allow him to rotate his squad better because Giroud has played 18 of our 20 league games so far this season and maybe a lack of rest has contributed to his dip in form. In terms of technical ability he's not better than Giroud. He sometimes gets goals (only 4 this season) because he is a pure goal hanger. His time at Old Trafford ended precisely because he wasn't making runs or getting involved in play. Now he's 2 and a half years older. There might be things about his abilities to pass to team mates in his favour. I think he still takes a good free kick. But do you really think he's that good?
All that said, I think the signing Wenger goes after will be someone like Berbatov! Hitting the later years of a career and on a very short term contract.

I'm convinced we don't need a 40M-pound signing at striker to win us the league this season, though we'd do well to get one over the summer if we want to make a real push for the CL.
Berbatov now and Costa over the summer? I'd cream my jeans.
Also, apparently Sanogo has already welcomed him? https://www.facebook.com/YayaSanogoal/posts/560081260747938:0

Berbatov's technical qualities aren't superior to Giroud's - they're vastly superior. No offense to the BFF here, but Berba didn't catch Sir Alex's eye with his heavy work rate.
If he comes to a club like The Arsenal this month, I suspect he'll kick the effort up a notch. How about a brace at White Hart Lane?

I'd like to see that because for basically the last four years he's been ordinary. I know he has a brilliant touch, I know he passes as well as any midfielder. My issue is he is not mobile enough or focused enough (or both) to do anything with the talent.

not intending to insult anyone but it seems someone doesn't know the meaning of 'technical ability'.
