The year is 1966, and the scene in Brooklyn was bringing in serious money for industrial, transportation & shipping, and even small businesses. Williamsburg, Brooklyn NYC alone held 93,000 manufacturing jobs. A local trucking company Carbone Trucking LTD was responsible for 45% of the hired workers in Williamsburg and 8% throughout NYC. A successful business orchestrated by the young entrepreneur Andrew 'Tuddy' Zannino and his business partner & mentor, Francesco 'Frank' Vinci. Although the legitimate business side of Carbone Trucking LTD was successful and brining in large salaries for everyone, it was the workings of the underworld in the borough of Brooklyn that 'Tuddy' & Frank we're dedicated and invested in. Raking in large sums of cash from schemes and robberies. The duo's first robbery and entrance into the illegal activities of Brooklyn was caused by Vinci's greed to give his young protege an edge on the competition. Vinci organized 'Tuddy's' most trusted employees and associates; including figures such as: Rueben Borghese, and Jerome Adinolfi. The now organized gang began to rob and hijack their rival companies trucks, stealing cargo that included anything from suits & coats, TVs & electronics, cigarettes, and even other crews narcotics or arms. The Carbone boys would then flip the product on the street to make an even quicker profit.
At the end of the year (1966), Carbone Trucking was under investigation by the local NYPD for suspicion of dealing large quantities of narcotics. Trucks were seen leaving their place of business in Williamsburg, and making their way to the shady streets surrounding the Savoy Project buildings. Further investigations lead to the knowledge that Carbone Trucking was in fact supplying narcotics to the neighboring Black criminal faction known as the 'Showwer Posse'. As the investigation continued Frank Vinci and his protege Andrew Zannino caught on that they were in trouble with the law and that pretty soon they would be put up against a wall by law enforcement. The two partners were confronted by the NYPD soon enough, and accused of drug-trafficking. The NYPD still didn't have sufficient evidence to make an arrest but it was clear that they were going to make a move soon. - Vinci saw a way out of it. His plan would free his protege of the NYPD's grip and would continue Carbone Trucking LTD and it's illicit illegal activities. Frank confessed to drug-trafficking, turning himself in on December 2nd, 1966. Vinci's luck would strike again as he bought one of the best lawyers money can buy to defend him in the upcoming case against him. With Frank's turning in of himself, and the skills of his superior lawyer, Frank was given a two year sentence in a state correctional facility. While his incarceration Vinci's businesses, such as, the Wimpy-Boy Social club were shut down and terminated by the NYPD. To save his friends and business interests, Francesco Vinci gave himself up and took the wrap so that business could continue as usual. |
New Bones - Early 1967

With the incarceration of Francesco Vinci, 'Tuddy' needed to extend his hand out to other men of the life and begin to bring in new faces to make sure that business goes down as usual and according to plan. He branched out his relationship to the hardworking union workers in Staten Island, New York, and promised them better pay. During this business scheme he met with well-known Union boss Joseph 'Crazy Joe' Maviglia who in due time became Zannino's go to guy when there was a problem in a Brooklyn neighborhood or if there was business that needed to be taken care of elsewhere. The two's relationship gave 'Tuddy' a new advantage over the streets of Brooklyn and an even better advantage over other businesses who refused to play along with Carbon Trucking, 'Crazy Joe' gave the crew leverage with his man power. With the addition of 'Crazy Joe' Maviglia and his entourage from Staten Island it brought in new players like: Martin Brancato and Francis Mineo & others. Brooklyn's crime rates began to make a steady rise as 'Tuddy expanded his organization throughout the entire borough of Brooklyn; setting crews in the North, South, East, and West. It seemed that the new criminal regime in Brooklyn was making head way, but 'Tuddy' did not want to see it ending up how it ended with Vinci.
With the new crews bringing in their new additional shares, 'Tuddy' began to be able to provide for his family and keep his mentor's (Frank Vinci) happy as well, setting money aside for Frank upon his return. The old jobs the Carbone Trucking crew used to pull are now in full swing again but this time activity has doubled, and the newly added business associates take to the streets like wild-fire bringing in a healthy sum for income. 'Crazy Joe' began to take a hold on the Brooklyn neighborhoods, his crew began to influence most of Brooklyn's small businesses and Corporations in the borough. Making even more of an impact in New York City's underworld. |
Free at last, free at last - 1968
Frank Vinci being released from Rykers Island State Correctional facility, after fighting off drug-trafficking charges and doing a two year bid. |
By the year 1968 the Carbone Trucking, and the rumors and legend surrounding the Corporation, brought in a total sum of eleven-million dollars in a weeks time. > Not including the money made on the side heard about from underworld stories and legends, which would add up to an amount that to this day is unknown. Under Andrew Zannino's watch and leadership the trucking business flourished. But with the money came the small whiff of crime, which attracted small-minimal attention from the state & local media, but overall keeping their status a secrete from everyone, including their own families and mothers. Following the latest success of Carbone LTD was the release of Francesco Vinci. After doing a two year sentence and fighting off accused drug-trafficking charges, Francesco claimed to be a devoted Christian, claiming to be a renewed man. Seen leaving prison with his small pocket bible that's given to each of the inmates when the first step into the facility. With the release of Frank Vinci, Zannino felt indestructible. Tuddy decided to take the next step and enlarge Carbone Trucking LTD, and look for other investors and business partners along with his mentor and advisor (Vinci). Spreading their business, and making new relationships with 'The New Jersey (Asaro) crime family. The recent moves coming from Zannino & Vinci were strategical business moves that earned their name, as dubbed by the press, The Zannino crime family. |
