Finished installing the custom firmware and all necessary apps(packages), so your PS3 is ready to go for playing backup/downloaded games.

I additionally installed around 4-5 full PS3 games on the internal HDD so you play or test those out if you wish. You can access and play these games by launching Multiman on the PS3 (Multiman is located underneath Game in the XMB menu(home menu)). You'll also be exclusively using Multiman to install/play games, it's basically an all-in-one file manager that does everything.

Now it might be a confusing process at first to install and play games, however once you get the grasp of it everything becomes very simple. I wrote up this step by step guide to help you out, feel free to let me know if you need any help.
Remember, never update or change the firmware unless an authentic 3.60 custom firmware comes out!

FAT32 formatter for external hard drives greater than 32GB: http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/
Windows 7 OS will not allow you to format drives to FAT32 if it's greater than 32GB.

How to play games

Playing from internal HDD/external USB HD:
  1. Insert an original PS3 blu-ray game disc into your PS3. The game can be any game, but this step is required for most games to work!
  2. In the XMB menu navigate to Game then launch Multiman.
  3. Highlight the game you wish to play that is stored on your internal HDD/external USB HD.
  4. Press X to launch the game if playing from internal HDD or select + X if playing from external USB HD.
You'll know if the game is on internal HDD or external USB HD by looking at the little icon at the bottom when a game is highlighted.
  5. It may ask you if you want to direct boot, select no (directing booting doesn't work with a lot of games).
If it asks you to mirror, select yes.
  6. You will be kicked off and returned to the XMB menu. Don't worry, this is completely normal.
  7. Now in Game within XMB menu, select the blu-ray disc icon. You shall see that the game disc you inserted shall change into the game you've launched in Multiman.
  8. Simply press X on the disc icon to play the game.
How to install/rip games

Ripping games from disc to internal HDD/external USB HD:

  1. Insert the game disc you want to rip into the PS3.
  2. In the XMB menu navigate to Game, then under game select Multiman then launch it.
  3. Once Multiman loads highlight the game you inserted in the game file manager, then press square for game settings.
  4. You should be shown a menu of various options. Select the backup option to copy the entire game to either internal HDD or external USB HD.
Note: If you're copying to external USB HD make sure it is formatted to FAT32 or the PS3 will not recognize it!
  5. Once the game is finished copying, you can then play it straight from the HDD/external USB HD via Multiman.
Installing downloaded games to external USB HD:
  1. First make sure you format your external USB HD to FAT32.
  2. Create a new folder in the root of the USB drive called "GAMEZ".
  3. Uncompress your downloaded games and put them all in the GAMEZ folder. Make sure you put only the folder that contains the game files (inside that folder should contain "PS3_GAME, PS3_UPDATE, etc."). This folder should also be named according to the game's ID (e.g. BLUS30690).
  4. Once you got the games transferred to the GAMEZ folder, connect the external USB drive to your PS3 and power it on.
  5. In the XMB menu navigate to Game and launch Multiman.
  6. Now all your downloaded games should show up in Multiman and you can launch and play them from the external USB HD.
Installing downloaded games to internal HDD:
  1. You need to copy the game to an external USB HD before doing you can transfer them to the internal HDD. So do the above steps first.
  2. In XMB menu navigate to Game then launch Multiman.
  3. Highlight the game you wish to copy to your internal HDD that is stored on your external usb HD.
  4. Press square to bring up game settings then select backup to copy the game to internal HDD.
  5. After the game has finished copying it is now fully installed on your internal HDD.

If all this fails and is just way too confusing/hard, just sell your PS3 slim and get a Xbox 360 instead! Play all games by just simply burning them from computer and inserting the disc into the console. Go online and play online undetected by Microsoft! Better online! Better graphics than PS3! Games don't take up 20+GB of space each!

Just kidding, I sound like a fanboy.

But having played both consoles all of those are true. The only thing annoying about the 360 is that it's loud, ugly and made by Microsoft. I just can't believe I spent over $400 on it. :O

Man that is a lot of work just to play a damn game. But I guess it's so much better then buying the game brand new, save so much money. I disagree about the XBox being better though, XBox you have to pay for online subscription. Inserting a game and play it is not better, Hard Drive install is the best. No scratch, game live forever, less loading and less hassle. Just launch and play!

Phen wanted to buy an PS3 since it can be mod to play backup game now, maybe you should revise the instruction a little better. Or even make an instruction with screenshot or picture O_O .

You should add Mortal Kombat to your PS3 list, but man it is a sh!t game. Wasted 9GB of bandwidth downloading it. We in serious sh!t if we keep downloading game though, we should only download when bandwidth is low. BTW do you know any good PS3 game? Need for Speed was a fun game, but it get bored really quick. That the thing with none online console game, it get bored and tedious fast.

I don't think it's a lot of work at all. The hardest part is downloading the game, which just takes a long time. But after you download the game just copy to external usb hd, plug it into PS3, launch and play. Not hard at all once you learn how to do so. There are certain games that need patches and fixes, but installing these takes like 10 seconds.

You can copy every game into Xbox 360 hard drive as well, but you still need to disc to start it up.

I tried to make the instructions as noob friendly as possible. I was going to make videos and screenshots but I'm just too lazy. If Phen really wants to know how to mod the PS3 though I'll make a video for him.

You should add it or add to the list when you download a new game. After all it's both of our library shared together.

Ever thought about buying a subscription to GameFly? It's about $10-$15 a month and you can rent as many games as you want and it is delivered to your door like Netflix.

You rent a game, immediately rip it then return it to get another game. Repeat the process and you will get a ton of games for the price of nothing! And to make sure they don't get suspicious, return the game only around 2-3 days after.

I was really thinking about doing this, since you waste no bandwidth at all and don't have to wait for games to download. What do you think? Maybe you should get a subscription.

Yeah I know a couple games I think you might really like. These ones are just top of my head right now.

Demon's Souls
I never played it but heard the game was really good, it's a medieval action-RPG hybrid where you can create your own character. It got great reviews as well, some people even say it's the best PS3 exclusive there is!

Saints Row 2
I also REALLY recommend playing Saints Row 2. I have it on Xbox 360 but it's available for PS3 as well. It's basically a Grand Theft Auto clone, however a lot more amusing and you get to create your own character (you can even play as a female). It's EXTREMELY fun and addicting, moreso than any game I've played all year. There's just so many things you can do in the game it's crazy, race, waterboat, fly planes/helicopters, buy clothes and dress up, buy/deck out your own crib, go to fight clubs, take role as the police, etc. It's like Sims on drugs, except unlike Sims it's not boring and actually fun. The best part is the world is gigantic in the game so it feels very much like you're walking in a real life city.

Valkyrie Chronicles
The last game I recommend is Valkyrie Chronicles. I never played this one either but been wanting to. It's a tactical RPG shooter game. Like Demon's Souls it got great reviews and praised as the best exclusive on PS3.

Bayonetta
Just watch the video and you'll be like... DAMN BEST GAME EVER!!!!!

I have this on 360 but it's available for PS3. Never played it yet though.

I will sign up if you know how to rip PS3 game properly to make sure it work, or know any software that does it. Have you ever try ripping a PS3 game before? It doesn't look easy since it a Blu-Ray and not .ISO format.

Best Buy have the My Passport 1TB on sale right now for $100 which is more then $45 off from original price. This is a really good price for a 1TB External Hard Drive. I will buy this soon to store all the PS3 games since the Internal is absolutely crap that can hold only 6 - 7 games the most.

Yeah it's super easy. All you have to do is insert the game disc into your PS3, launch Multiman, select the game you inserted, then go to game settings > backup/copy to internal or external usb HD. It's the same exact method to copy games from external usb HD to internal HDD. Multiman rips it entirely for you. You don't even need a PC to do this.

I notice you have Marvel vs Capcom 3 so you can try ripping it yourself. I already explained how to do this in the earlier post as well. :O

Btw when you buy the 1TB HD you need to format it to FAT32 for PS3 to recognize. You will need to use http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/Fat32Formatter/ to format to FAT32. Windows 7 will not allow you to format drives to FAT32 if it's greater than 32GB.

Oh man Phen he bought my PS3 for $300. I told him to buy a new one and you can mod it for him, but he wanted mine instead because it already been done with some games on it. So right now still thinking if I should buy another PS3 or not, not a lot of good games I wanted to play right now. I guess I can wait until some good games come out and buy a PS3 by then.

Some important question about Multiman.

1.) When you copy a PS3 game, does it ask you where to install the game to? This way it doesn't alway go into Internal since it only 160GB.

2.) Should you patch the game before or after copying the game? Does original PS3 game need to be patch at all?

3.) So this Multiman, you can never play online correct?

4.) It need original PS3 game inside PS3 to play backup game?

That great that Multiman does everything though, too bad my PS3 and Marvel vs Capcom 3 is taken by Phen now so I can't try it out now. I guess that make both of us don't have a PS3 now. PS3 with Mod right now is HOT HOT HOT!

There is already a bunch of great games out, you are just not bothering to look. I already listed some hot sexy games which I think is better than any PC MMORPG to date, no joke. MMORPGs are all the same anyways and they get boring real quick.

Did you at least teach him how to use it to play and install games? If he updates the firmware accidentally then the system is fucked. But right now PSN is down for everyone because some hacker hacked into it and stole everyone's personal information including credit card numbers. So if you bought something on PSN beware!

Onto the questions:

Quote:

1.) When you copy a PS3 game, does it ask you where to install the game to? This way it doesn't alway go into Internal since it only 160GB.
If you have an external usb HD connected it should ask you or give you the option to install to that instead of the internal HDD.
Quote:

2.) Should you patch the game before or after copying the game? Does original PS3 game need to be patch at all?
Depends on the game, but most games don't need patches at all. Even if it does, you can always download the patch from the internet and install it in like 10 seconds.
Quote:

3.) So this Multiman, you can never play online correct?
You used to be able to play it online undetected but Sony has patched it on March 17th. I bet in the future we will be able to play online once again. Regardless PSN is down for everyone including those who don't mod their PS3s.
Quote:

4.) It need original PS3 game inside PS3 to play backup game?
Yeah you need a PS3 disc inserted for most games, but some games you can play without any disc. The disc is just better for compatibility. If you need a disc real bad you can do it like me and buy a crappy used game at GameStop for $5. I bought MotorStorm for around that price to use as a disc.

So why did you sell it for $300? You bought the PS3 for $328 and MvC3 costs $60 so you just lost like $100. You already sold it twice LOL you should make up your mind.

Well I do recommend you getting another PS3 because it's an awesome game console + you can basically play any game you want for free. A gaming console is better than a PC for gaming imo, it's made solely for games so games are the best for it, not to mention you get all these high production JRPG games you can't get on PC.

Oh, and if you're planning on buying a new PS3 slim I suggest you buy one from eBay. Yeah I know eBay sucks but there is a great deal going on right now.

So say you buy a brand new PS3 for $285 with free shipping.

8% eBay bucks internet explorer 9 promotion + $5 initial purchase = $30 off.

$255 with no shipping fees. Compared to $328 if you buy it from a retail store.

Well I like buying from retail store better because I can always return it for a refund or a replacement if anything wrong with it. Store offer 30 days return on product, for a replacement of course. And buying from retail store is better, it a little more expensive but you absolutely Guarantee you will get it brand new instead of eGay shit there always not brand new and no return.

I really want to keep it but Phen was being persistent, he don't want to buy another one and have you mod it. Marvel vs Capcom 3 he only borrow to have game work, gonna buy another crappy $5 game like you to give it to him. But I did lost like $40 for HDMI Cable and HD Cable, it doesn't come with PS3. Oh well, I will wait until better PS3 come out.

You shouldn't wait too long you know. Because if you wait too long all the new PS3s are going to have firmware 3.56/3.60 on them, then you can't mod them anymore and stuck having to buy nasty used PS3s.

Sony is being very strict on piracy right now, making it harder or impossible to hack newest firmware. That's why there hasn't been any new custom firmware for a long time now, maybe not even ever.

Same thing happened with the Wii. Earlier Wiis were able to mod DVD drive to play backups with modchips, but when the new Wiis came out they implemented a new type of DVD drive and years later no one is able to mod these yet.

Shit I buy it tomorrow then, program for me again then when I buy it. This time, it will be the last time you have to do it of course because I'm planning on keeping it for good.

In the meantime, I open a website exclusively for PS3. Game collections will be on here, so you don't have to make the list anymore. This site will be downloading game from Torrent with Seeder and Peer. You have to watch Bandwidth though.

Anyway, it is still new and I haven't add a domain name yet ( http://www.psx3games.blogspot.com ) Come and check it out and tell me what you think!

Remember to mod and install games for me like you did with the first PS3, buying PS3 tomorrow!

I don't get what it's supposed to be, a site for torrents or site to see all the games we already have? Do you host the torrents yourself or is it from somewhere else?

I think we need a site to see the collection of all the games we have, or add a page for collection of games. So I'll still keep my list updated. Besides, I have other consoles besides PS3.

So all these games you put on here you already downloaded and have correct? It's not a current game collection list otherwise.

If it is, I don't see why you need to put them up as torrent if you already downloaded them, since that would just waste bandwidth having someone else download them a second or additional time. You can put them on an external drive and other people can just copy it from there.

On the other hand I guess it's good for outside traffic. If you get a large database of games and puts ads on the site you can maybe earn as much money as PhimWorld.

You forgot other games I've downloaded though, Wipeout HD Fury and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit.
