Anyone care to speculate on this new Facebook post? What do you think is coming? When do you think it will arrive? I know many people were disappointed when the new type of seasonal dragons were released. Do you think this will be another disappointment? Do you have any other thoughts about it?

The point is, we all know everybody plays the game differently, but that includes the aspects we take pleasure in and prioritize. For those who were drawn predominately to other aspects besides the slot machine component, BFS just dramatically upped the frustration factor. I don't think it makes them wimps who don't want a challenge - it means their play style just took a big hit, and they have to decide if the new balance of fun and frustration is still worth the effort. That's not unreasonable.
You've put my exact feelings into words, thank you! I was never interested in the "challenge" of breeding, I wanted three of each dragon as fast as possible so I could be happy that I once again had "collected everything". This is just my personality, and when things take a long time to get (Peridot - over a year. Double Rainbow - months), I get antsy and annoyed and frustrated. As long as I could balance that out with other goals, I was happy to continue playing, but if it comes to a point where the frustration outweighs the happy, and I can easily see it happening with the new breeding rules, then at that point I will no longer play.

But I'll stop "whining" about it now, don't worry, this is my last post on the subject!

@fletch, it isn't so much that the rules have changed per se, it's that many older players remember when the rules were BETTER, and that sucks for us. If I was a new player coming on at this time, and these were the rules, that's cool because that is how it is. But for those of us playing for a long time, it's hard to go to the new style because we are the old farts who remember the "better days" so to speak. Will we get used to it? Yeah, probably. Will it continue to bug me that things used to be easier to breed and I always will wish for that instead of what we have now? Absolutely. Unlike others, I'm not interested in a "challenge". I want to collect, and I feel happy every time I go to my park to see my collection complete. If it takes 3 times the effort to get that same feeling, it may end up not worth it anymore.

Just my two cents.
Sir, when I started playing, there were no dragons that earned gems, there was no dragon that could speed up time. There were no large epic habitats or giant regular ones. There were only 7 elements and breeding air/sandstorm dragons were the best you could do to make extra cash. There were no multiple element dragons, but it didn't matter because there were no shrines to worry about, and level 10 dragons were as good as it got. And when the shrines were introduced, it only went to silver. How many of us bred the dragons to feed them up, then sold them at level 10 because we didn't know there would be a gold stage added later. Not that we could have done anything about it anyway, because there was no Hibernation Cave. You could only keep dragons you could put in a habitat, so breeding, feeding and selling was the only way to do it.

Did we whinge when the introduced a 4 element dragon to make shrines easier AND when they gave new players a place to store the Dragons AND when they introduced the ability to gild your shrines with gems rather than have to bother with the whole breeding thing anyway? Probably. It's still dumb though. Games change. Otherwise they become boring. I've played every day for nearly 2 years. Because they keep the game fresh. Without the need to breed for shrines, same + same = same makes the game too easy. Or breeding epics to get other epics was too easy. Challenge is back.

We all said how easy the game had gotten when they introduced Metal dragons with crazy earn rates and 7 figure resale. What do you think the earn/sell rates are going to be for these new dragons (dark at level 21 and light at level 25)? Heaps of money to be earned in the future in ways that could not have been imagined by me when a boosted blue fire (back when it could be boosted) was the ducks nuts. Not to mention, they have hinted at breeding epics above level 10 is in the works. They obviously got rid of the shrines for this reason, figuring that no-one would do the work of gilding epic shrines in the same way as regular ones. For the record I would have, but I'm probably in the minority.

Bottom line is this is good for the future of the game.
And that is your opinion, and I respect it! But I started playing only a month after Dragonvale came out, and while some changes have made me happy, and some changes have made me raise my eyebrows, and yes there was a TON of whining after gemstones came out from just about everyone, I've never hit a change that made me re-evaluate my enthusiasm for playing dragonvale quite like this one. My goals playing the game may simply be different from yours, but that doesn't make them any less legitimate, and I would appreciate it if you would not act so condescending to those who are truly upset about the changes. You're not upset, and that's great! Neither are others on this forum! I am, and there is no need to act like I'm a whining baby because of it.

BTW, not that it matters, but I'm a girl :)
Of course it matters. Very very sorry for calling you sir. I apologise for that.

And it's not that I'm happy with the changes. But they gave me this game for free. I've had 2 years enjoyment out of it and I didn't have to spend a dollar on it if I didn't want to. But to complain about changes made to a gift I've been given would be petty and rude. If I don't want to play with it anymore that's one thing. To say I've been betrayed or had my trust violated or to say that the last two years of enjoyment I've had in the game have been wiped away is overly melodramatic.

No worries, I get that a lot! I find it funny, actually, and it doesn't bother me at all. But thank you for apologizing!

As for the game, I have definitely gotten a lot of enjoyment out of it, I am continuing to do so at this point, and nothing BF has changed, or any changes they make in the future, will wipe away the fact that I've been playing this game for almost two years, and love it to pieces! That wasn't what I meant at all, and if I came across like that, I apologize. Nothing BF does can take that away. It is the future enjoyment I am iffy over, and I'm worried about that because I DO love the game, and I DON'T want to stop playing, but if frustration over breeding gets to be more than my overall enjoyment, then I wont want to play anymore, and it will become like Pocket Frogs, just sitting there on my screen. Which is sad. Poor Pocket Frogs. I go back every once in awhile, get overwhelmed with all the frogs I'm missing, then just don't go back for about 3 months. I don't want that to happen with DragonVale!

Also, sometimes people just need to rant a bit and commiserate with people who agree with them over things like this before they suck it up and deal. At least, that's how I am!

Fletch, it is a product for profit, not a gift. Just because you enjoy using a product does not make it a gift. The fact that you could play it without paying with money does not make it a charity, but rather a business model. And this is a popular business model with much profit from cash transaction to data sales. I use gmail, but I do not pretend it is a gift to me from google- that would be absurd. Same with dv. I enjoy them both, but they are not gifts and people are not ungrateful or rude if they complain about any aspect of the product. And, this is not an opinion: it is a product, not a gift.

For myself, I could hardly care less about the changes. However, if people do care or want to vent, why would you want to stop them? Violation of expectation is a prime cause of customer dissatisfaction. Look it up. People may or may not have a good point, but it is a very human response.

And, wow. I sure got a lot of gems for the shrines having been gold. Was that the amount it would have cost in gems if people paid for the shrines with them?

I dislike the change only for one thing like someone else already said. I just want to be able to keep up. In two days I can say again that I have all the dragons I want (adult, baby, pedestal), I was lucky to put DR + DR and Bronze + Platina in my breeding places to get my last pedestals. Since gemstones came out I haven't been able to say that I got all dragons, it is just a nice fuzzy feeling to have that you got all the dragons. With these breeding rule change it will only get more difficult.
So I am not against the breeding rule change, I just want the game to be beatable. To suit my completionist feelings of having everything.

I can see your point with that. I remember last year when they had multiple rare dragons and the gem dragon going in one month and how it didn't feel fun at all. I like the game to be very casual in regards to time commitment.

Of course it's a product, but it's a free one. It's not shelling out 80 bucks to buy GTAV and then not thinking you got your money's worth.

And I don't want to stop anyone having an opinion. Why don't I get the same courtesy to allow me an opinion about their opinion?

40 gems per shrine ... it's a bit hard to calculate, because buying the gold shrines was dependent on how many level 15 dragons you already had. Doesn't seem likely we would be ahead in the deal.

Not quite. Whether you pay with money for gems or just with data collection, you pay.

The opinion about an opinion about an opinion argument is tending towards sophistry and fallacy territory. It's like those religious arguments that say, 'if you say I am a bigot for being a bigot, then you are an intolerant bigot.' :P (not to conflate the two things, but rather as an example of the hole)

If the gems didn't add up, I hope not too many people used gems to get golden shrines and paid more than they got back. In my case (and probably most), though, it was quite a nice surprise.

Overall, I am glad they did something new. The game needed it badly. Now time will say if this something new was fun or not. The breeding rules was like gizmonauts or whatever it was called, I think. Now if they can just add those timers.

Ah that explains why your case is different, because I have an iPad1. Well I am really thinking about getting a 5th gen iPad now (they will probably be announced in 10 days).

@fletch, we need the coins to level up our dragons to 20 ;)
Hey on The DV Community forum someone posted that they had found a way to get DV to work on their ipad1. I thought I would share it with you. I hope it helps.

Great, I will test that.

Edit: On second thought, I won't; I am using those functions and I am not sure if I will lose data in the progress, also I have a lot of apps with notifications. Thanks for the advice though.

Anyone know if there is a way to backup all an iPad's data to do a factory reset and not lose everything? I'm so technologically challenged... >_<
