I thought that it would be nicer to have a separate topic about magic. So here you can discuss about everything you want as long as it is about magic ;)

Below I will include what we know about collecting magic and some strategy ideas. We will include more info as we discover it and have time to include it. :)

Hiding info so we don't have to scroll as much while still being able to access the info.

I'm just playing normally now. Checking in more often, and racing/visiting other parks, but other than that I haven't made changes. I can see why grinders might be getting burned out, but that's their choice.
I wish we would be able to get everything that way. If that was the case I would have loved this event. I am a completionist with games and cannot stand not getting everything... which is happening right now... DV always was a perfect game for me, I could get everything... not anymore though... Still hoping they change their mind and let us finish this event :P
I have exams now, so my shrub farming is low.
The way that it works, by counting up the magic earned by all players, means very few will get everything, and very few will get little, and most will get the average of Large Habitats with 2 eggs. I am positive the 3rd egg will not be something exclusive for high level players, but just another dragon, the same as the first two.

I said I was going to try to plant 200 bushes a day, which in reality was 0-25. I kept saying I would do it later, a mythical later that never came. So tonight while my boyfriend is writing a paper and I'm attempting to be as un-distracting as possible, I'm planting bushes. 250, took a break to lurk about the forum... now I'm going back in to do some more. I have 2,000 to get the second light egg, and I'd like to get the Giant Light habitat after that. I know I'll be mad at myself if I slack and don't make it by the end, but... blegh.

I don't plant many bushes. However, I have planted a few now and then to get to an even 100 so that I can cast magic and keep track of how much I've earned for the day. In my small gardening ventures, I found a method that works well for me, although still somewhat tedious. I use the buy another option, then sell the bush I just bought. Then I go back to the "seed bush" to buy another again. It saves you a little clicking, b/c as soon as you click done with placing the bush, your finger is already positioned above the sell button. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Selling gazillion bushes at once is really annoying, this way is much less tedious in my opinion. Have fun bush planting.

My magic production has already slowed way down, but I am okay with that. I will definitely have both giant habitats. Whether I get anything else or not, doesn't really bother me. I do like to complete things, but I can only do what I can do, so I am not stressing about what I can't do. :)

I've done another 400 which is enough for me tonight. I had a little 4x4 square bordered by small stones next to 2 small plant habitats which I'd fill and then clear. It's not so bad once I put on some music. My epic dragons kept flying between me and it, so I relocated to my freshly cleared island and made it a 5x5.

I'm fairly certain I'm on track to get the second light egg and giant habitat without any grinding, but I have had my internet crap out on me a lot this month at all locations I regularly access it and feel the need for the security of cushion.

I like a larger planting area. Mine holds a little over 100 and I can plant and clear it mindlessly in about 10-15 minutes (once, too mindlessly, I cleared my racetrack - oops!). I like to leave "crop circles" or little messages carved into the field between plantings for my visitors to enjoy. Currently, my field says "r0b0 [rock]s".

I hope they don't do anything like this again.
Why?
1. Everything regarding the rift dragons was poorly-explained. People who don't get the third rift dragon egg in each habitat aren't 100% sure that they won't be missing out on something in the end (no matter how convincing the arguments are that various people have laid out, no one is 100% sure). There's a lack of information about whether rift dragons will be unbreedable like gemstones, for instance. Basically, people aren't able to accurately judge whether they will be missing something for their collection if they don't spend money during this limited event.

2. The whole thing clearly revolves around money, and I'm sure whatever extra income (on top of what they make from people buying gems to aid in regular gameplay) will encourage BFS to do more and more of these special events. It does seem like a fairly safe argument that people who didn't spend money to get 3 rift eggs in each habitat won't miss out on anything this time around, but it's quite possible that collectors will be forced to choose between spending money and forever missing out on something during the next event, or the one after that. I understand and accept that they have a business to run, but I don't have to like it or hope that things continue down this path.

I think if everyone just played normally, as BFS advises, the event would take longer and most players would have a chance at most rewards, without extra spending. The element of competition, of seeing who can get the most the fastest, speeds up the event. Though rewards are promised to those who achieve the most, I don't think BFS intends to punish those who achieve less. So far, they've provided Bring 'em Back and repeat events for us to get what we've missed, with the exceptions of the anniversary decorations.

Looks like Dark magic is making a comeback. There are now 5 markers for Dark and still only 6 for Light.

The last time I checked the rift dragons are indeed unbreedable, but the light and dark dragons are breedable.

1. Everything is poorly explained because it is all about the mystery. Teasing the player. The kind of thing they had going leading up to each of the gemstone dragons the first time around. Anticipation is a good thing, especially in this day and age which revolves around instant gratification.

2. The whole game revolves around money. It's a business after all. If they weren't still earning from it, it would have died like Gizmonauts.

The simple maths revolving around counting the magic collected by all players will end up with a bell curve, with a small % getting all or little! and the vast majority of players being in the middle with Large Habitats and 2 eggs. Running a comp in this way that would give the majority of players the chance to get max rewards means the event would run for many months and possibly never end.

It would be dumb of them to keep something elite at the top tier of rewards when the majority of players could never receive it. I think they've handled it well and run a great comp. It's certainly sparked a renewed interest in the game amongst a lot of long term players who have just been going through the motions and were on the brink of giving the game away. This event has been fantastic for the game and has ensured it's life for a long time to come.

7th light tier. If each segment and addition are worth 5%, it has reached 65% and we are two thirds of the way there.

Well, it's nice for you that you like all the mystery and can list a reason mystery is good, but that didn't really argue my point about why the mystery is bad. As for the business part, I clearly said I understood that it's a business; I also said I don't have to like the way they seem to be going with their goal to monetize the game further or how the next event might be more intense in that regard. Perhaps there will be nothing important at the "top tier" of rewards during this event since most players will never achieve it, but if they want to make more money (which they do), I think this event will make them see very easily that offering a very tempting/cool/rare reward that players cannot achieve without spending money will be a their next step if they ever do this again. Which is a big reason why I hope they never do this again. So my comment that "I hope they never do this again" was only partly because there is something I don't like about this event (being unable to judge whether I need to spend money or not); mostly I just really don't like where this event could lead.
