Character Details
Description: A man of just above average height for a human, standing at 6'1", he has an average build on a sturdy frame. His shoulders are a bit broader than his build would normally allow, giving his body a sort of triangular shape overall with it being wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. His torso is a little short for his height, and his legs make up the difference. He is quite the lanky looking fellow despite being around the norm in weight for his height. His skin is a very lightly tanned with a creamy complexion. His face often looks flushed even when it isn't because his skin is weather-worn from a fair bit of travel. His eyes are a blend of green and blue, though not a smooth mix, so there are dark and light flecks within the swirling mass of color in his irises. His hair is, as with all Red Mages, a metallic grey. Not quite enough sheen exists in his ear length locks for it to be called silver, but it clearly isn't a bland and dingy grey like that of an elderly fellow.

World: Final Fantasy

Hometown: Lindblum

Motivation: As one who aspires to gain rank within the Red Mages Guild, Oryan has taken to traveling great distances to gain knowledge and to discover more about himself so that he may prove his worth.

Strengths: Analytical, Adaptive, Stoic

Weaknesses: Indecisive, Detached, Apathetic, Critical

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Personality: When most people look at Oryan they will probably question whether or not he's a robot in human skin. His face is often without expression and his eyes hold little light when directed at others, especially if one happened to be looking for comfort or consolation. There is a stark contrast within his gaze in that regard. Most people don't get to see the side of him that really sets him apart from the selfish and apathetic scholar that they see him to be. If you can gain this Red Mage's favor their is an air of confidence and serenity about him that will serve as a great boon when things get rough. If you can take criticism of your mistakes well and are looking for advice to improve yourself he will deliver such to you without a second thought. Many would interpret his words as harsh, but in truth he would only offer said advice to someone he had bonds with. Whether through circumstance, mutual sharing of goals, or the rare occasion when he does show some form of affection towards another, you should only expect to get an earful from him if you've gotten close enough to matter to him.

Backstory: Born in the plateau city of Lindblum, Oryan was exposed to magic and technology his whole life. Multiple magical colleges existed within the walls of the great city and countless machines and technology were always being developed, particularly in regards to Airships and weapons technology. His life was a rough and tumble one from the very beginning. Both his parents worked for one of the many clans that existed throughout the world, so they were constantly traveling around to fulfill their marks and bring home enough gil to sustain themselves.

He grew up with a wealthy relative that lived in Lindblum. Since his mother and father traveled so much, it was uncertain when the next time they'd show up to visit would be, but they always managed at least every few months. Their rich relative, an uncle who was a fairly young bachelor, got annoyed at taking care of Oryan himself as it kept him from going to social gatherings and parties. Because of this he invested a little bit in his nephew and sent him to the novice courses in the schools of magic. The earlier classes were mostly about magical theories and performing small parlor tricks known as cantrips. Oryan took an interest in magic, though. His uncle had expected it to be a chore to occupy the boy's time, but instead it turned into a past time for him. He had grown quite tired of people coming and going so quickly from his life. Even if they did show up again, they were never around when he needed them.

So he turned his focus inward and the books became his primary companions. If he could rise to any occasion then he wouldn't need to worry about someone being there for him when he got into trouble. Magic and, above all else, knowledge were powerful tools that he could surely use to do just that. His parents both had their own extraordinary skills, after all, and they seemed to be doing fine for themselves. His uncle had money, but Oryan was not so fortunate, himself, and so he took up the mantle his parents had, whether intentionally or not, left on his shoulders.

He studied night and day until he was taken into the Guild of Red Mages to study at their Lindblum branch. He managed to scrounge and scrimp enough gil from taking some of the simpler and easier marks from local taverns as a free agent. The Guild itself often had simple errands that needed to be run, and once he was admitted to the guild as a full fledged member he was apprenticed to a veteran member. It annoyed Oryan a great deal that his apprenticeship merited him little more than what he was already doing, but at least he no longer had to search for low marks in the slums to pay for his learning. His apprenticeship guaranteed his access to the volumes in the Guild's library, and his own dedication to learning more in regards to his natural gifts was the only teacher he needed.

His master was quite surprised to see how quickly and efficiently he completed menial tasks with his magic, and he even managed to drop a word or two in on conversations that his master was having with other veteran members regarding spell incantations. These feats granted him the recognition he wanted and he was finally relieved of his apprenticeship to become a novice member of the guild. They gave him the right of initiation. In addition to solidifying one's presence and gaining the title of Red Mage within the guild, it also infused the initiate with high levels of positive and negative energies as a means to strengthen their ties to the ebb and flow of the supernatural. As one with natural magical attunement already present in him as well as a strong balance between the two aforementioned positive and negative forces, his initiation went smoothly and fluidly. It is of note that the initiation ceremony is the primary reason that most Red Mages have grey/silver hair. The heavy dose of energy surged through them combined with the precise balance of the two opposing forces causes a physical change within the initiate that marks them for life as a practitioner of both White and Black Magics.

Though Oryan, at the age of Seventeen, was able to become a full member of the Red Mage's Guild, he still seeks more. He knows he's far from the top and he wants to reach higher. With a boundless thirst for knowledge and the skills to weather harsh situations, Oryan sets off to find himself in the universe.

Holy crap. This is very well written, a good description, and the character is actually believable from a psychological standpoint.

Approved!
