Aalis managed to point out a small house, planted inconspicuously on the edge of what was regarded as the typical 'residential' district, to Saber. Different from most buildings in the district, it had no distinct designs or flashiness to it, and was not even arranged or placed in a fashion that made much sense compared to the organized structure of other homes. It seemed like a drab building that was just constructed for no real reason or purpose in the overall layout and design of the residential district. It was for this reason Aalis purchased this home from the previous residents upon moving to Alsace-Lorraine. It was not because she had anything to hide, but rather because the size and appearance of it seemed to fit well with her materialistic desires - or lack thereof. After being released and hopping down from Saber's grasp, she entered the residence to a loud creaking sound emitted from rusty hinges attached to an old wooden frame. The door itself seemed fragile, as if it were degrading after years of use and wear. However, Aalis did not bother even mentioning the condition of the exterior and simply continued onward, signaling Saber to follow her inside. From the front door, one could see the layout of a living room, bathroom, kitchen, and a door leading to one other room. Yet, only the very most basic of commodities made the rooms more than a square-shaped section inside a house. There was no furniture to be seen, and only the unique sight of plumbing differentiated the living room from other the other rooms. There was absolutely no lighting to speak of, other than a few unlit candle posts. Yet, there was certainly decoration, the grandeur of which would cause one to question why the rest of the house looked so barren. Crosses of silver and gold encrusted with gems and precious metals. Bibles with gold encrusted borders and pure leather covers. The presence of such objects completely contradicted the otherwise poverty-stricken home. What she had implied earlier was no lie - the Odiles would at the very least be considered a very wealthy family. Her use of such wealth, however, was limited to God, and God alone. Aalis turned to Saber after he had a good minute to observe the surroundings. Since he was a newly summoned spirit who would be more accustomed to the medieval era, she was unsure if he was familiar with modern society or not, but his knowledge of automobiles somewhat hinted he would not need any explanation for the use of plumbing or the like. So she figured it would be better not to dabble in meaningless talk. "This will be our base for now, Saber. I assume we can coordinate our actions tomorrow, but if there is anything you must know before I head to sleep, do ask now." |
