Skuld considered the two of them for a moment, her smile fading briefly as she regarded the situation. Here she had a Master who had fled her wards protection at the first opportunity and a young man who might be a Master himself, but had yet to summon a Servant. What to do with either of them? Her Master had returned to her, that was fine. He had probably been meaning to prove that he was not afraid to venture forth. It had been dangerous but best that he got it out of his system now in this early stage. Still, she would need to get a full report from her wraiths on his activity's latter... Still if he had found his youth an brought him back then he had accomplished considerably more than she had anticipated from him, regardless of whether it had been intentional or not. For the youth himself well... there were a great deal of possibility's. "Yes... yes I believe I will. Come inside. I will permit you entrance through my wards and we can speak of what is happening in this city. You may need my knowledge to survive at this point." Turning she made her way though her bounded field and and through the front door, leaving the way open in invitation. |

Arséne knew that he had no choice. This woman, no, this Servant was way beyond him. Even if he tried to flee, he would probably not get very far before getting shot by a lightning bolt or something ludicrous like that. He sighed and stepped through the Gateway of the premise, his eyes almost glued on the witch before him. His view turned in the direction of Matthew for a moment and he smiled at the other man slightly. He also looked like he was a bit... worried with the situation, so they were in the same boat, right? "Are you also comming?" While he felt a bit bad, he didn't want to remain alone with the foreign woman. His instincts and experiences were telling him that such a thing could end badly, though she didn't seem overly interested in doing anything bad to him right now. How fortunate. "Ah! Thank you very much ma'am. I hope I am not taking up too much of your time. His face had been directed at the woman that Matt called his Servant before she left for the house. Skuld was certainly pretty and he actually wondered how someone like her could stand on the same level as these other monsters. Then he remembered the woman that could fire and thunder and his moment of confusion ended. He bit on his underlip when he stepped through the door and hoped the other man would follow right after him. |

Matt remained still, silently pondering the turn of events. Caster didn't seem to be angry, despite his disobedience and lack of apology. It seemed odd, especially given her display of violence the night before. She'd tried to kill a man simply because she could. Why, then did she not harm the man who directly disobeyed her? Was it because he was her Master? It was unlikely, given her treatment of him earlier. And she hadn't killed Arsene, an intruder in her domain either. A humble smile appeared on Matthew's face, which then broadened to a full grin. Perhaps he'd been too quick to judge. She'd only attacked that one man, and dropped him without a second thought. Every other situation had been dealt with peacefully. She was even willing to help another Master. Yes, the situation in that alley had been a test of Matt's morals, to see whether he was worthy of working with a powerful and benevolent spirit. But that left one more question; where had Caster been all day? Deciding to forget about the particular mystery, at least momentarily, Matt followed his Servant into the household. |

Striding through the living room of the house and into the dining area Skuld drew aside a chair at the head of the long table and sat, beckoning for her Master and his guest to sit in turn. "This house is something of a fortress that I created." She said gazing at Arséne once he had taken his seat. "While we are here it is... unlikely that we will be overheard. So let us all speak frankly to one another. You came here yet you have not summoned a Servant. How much do you know of this event and why did you come here if not to participate?" |

Arséne looked at the room. This place looked like it belonged to someone who was well of. Richly furnished and extensively decorated, this place was more of a small castle then anything else. He stepped on a big carpet while following the sorceress. His eyes wandered, but his attention remained firmly on the woman. He frowned at Skuld. She believed that he didn't plan to participate? Well, it was logical, if the winner got the price, why should he go with a possible enemy? The woman had obviously no real understanding of just how... nice Matthew was. He hadn't believed it himself on the other hand... well, no other choice but to say what was going on. "Actually, I don't really know all that much about the, how did you call it, event? I had a run-in with some strange people, Servants they were called and have noticed this here on my hand." He showed her the small symbol that appeared to be a spiral of some kind. "Well, mister Matt informed me that this was the ticket for some kind of competition and asked me if I was... the term was magus, correct? He made a slightly unsure facial impression. The term was unknown to him, though it had an uncanny resemblance to the words mage and magician. "I never heard of the term before, but with the way he talked of it, it should be some kind of condition to be chosen. He thought back to the conversation and came to a conclusion. "That is about all I know." |

Matt sat at the end of the table, watching the two converse. He paid close attention to Caster, wondering how she would respond to this man, deciding whether or not his theory was correct. Skuld tapped the table with a long nail idly as the new Master explained his situation before her. She frowned softly as he finished. This was the second Master that she had encountered who was ignorant of what was happening within the city. Was there really this many Magi in the modern era who were ignorant of Magic? Perhaps it was destiny. That cunning old trickster after who she was named was always lurking around, and it was beyond coincidence that the Grail would pick so many individuals who had no knowledge. Her eyelids fluttered momentarily as she considered this new option. A Master with no knowledge, no one would miss him, no one besides her Master and herself probably even knew he was here. And she had already taken a toll on her reserves of strength.... Hypnotize Arsene, have him give his Command Spells to her own Master, and then suck away whatever power he had to fuel her own diminished reserves. It was a simple prospect, and she liked simple. The fingernail that was tapping on the table gave one last tap, hitting the table and digging into the wood like a knife. But simple was rarely the best option, and especially at this point in the game she could not squander such a find which represented so many other opportunity's. She gave a little sigh and pulled her finger from the table, prying loose a few splinters as she did. She was pondering where to begin to explain the War to this newcomer when she felt a prickling in the back of her mind. One of her wraiths was informing her of something. Briefly she submerged her conciseness, her minds eye fleeing far away to the sight of a distant battle. What she saw was greater than anything she had been expecting. Involuntarily, she sat up, her gaze distant. What her familiar was witnessing was not a battle between two or three Servants, but between what looked like a small army. Her hand clenched tightly before her and she took in a breath before banishing the vision. Matthew and Arsene were both looking at her strangely as she recovered from her small episode. This was... this could be an opportunity now that she put her mind to it. An opportunity to show both of these Masters just what it was that was waiting out there. That should make Mattew more reluctant to venture outside after this, as well as make Arsene realize his debt to her for sheltering him... "I see... so you say you have very little knowledge of what exactly is going on. I would explain, but I have just received somewhat fascinating news. Perhaps it would be better if you simply saw yourself? I do not wish to alarm you, but you are in no small danger. Follow me both of you." Rising from the table in a swish of black fabric Skuld beckoned for the two of them to follow her and glided though the dining room into the kitchen. Briefly dismissing the illusion that covered the door to her workshop, Skuld lead them down the long flight of stairs that opened into her rudimentary workshop. In a moment the landscape had been transformed from that of a pristine urban home to a dank cellar filled with her alchemy equipment. A black iron cauldron, mortar and pedestal, rows of herbs and a lines of small wicker cages lined the walls, while in the center of the room a black fire pit was spread. Crouching over it Skuld blew upon the embers left from her last fire. Adding a few sticks from her meager wood pile the fire roared up in an instant far beyond the limits of what an ordinary blaze would have from such little fuel. The fires tongues rose up casting huge shadows across the room, nearly licking the ceiling in their eagerness. Focusing, Skuld reached out into the flames with her mind and tugged on them, gently parting the boundary's of space and vision. It took a few moments for her, but slowly and surly the dancing flames became images of another place. A far off battle that was taking place right now between the forces of the war. "Look into the flames." She commanded. "You will not see at first, either of you, but soon you will, and then you will have your answer." He wasn't sure what to expect from the woman that was called Caster. Her Actions were strange and that short episode of glazed eyes... Yet, she certainly appeared powerful and every instinct in his body told him to not underestimate her. He followed Skuld and observed how she created the flames, then her words penetrated. She had said that they could see something in the flames? He was skeptic, but the very act of creating fire from nothing was already quite... incredible. What was the ability to recreate the effect of a Television compared to that? When Arséne looked into the fire, he didn't see anything in the beginning. Then things happened, the flames seemed to swirl and suddenly he could see people. First they seemed to be talking, but the discussion soon turned into a battle, but not into any battle he had seen before. An arrow was fired that created incredible destruction, a spearfighter attacked a flying woman and another similar warrior stopped an hail of arrows. It was wild and chaotic and destructive beyond reason. There was no sense in the batte beyond the sides and both groups seemed to battle with a passion that defied reason. Most would have been disgusted by the destruction, awed by the power and scared by the insanity of these pictures, for Arséne the reaction was different. He didn't care much for battle and had never been one for power, but what he saw there was something he had searched for since that day. That day when his ancestor had explained the strange mentality of his family. The single-minded concentration on a single goal and thing. How had his father called it, ah yes: "It was like finding the Meaning of Life." He wanted this even if he didn't understand it. Although he didn't think the battle would have the same effect on him as on these people, he couldn't help but hope that there was a way for him to reach the goal that would define his life. If this grail war had even the slightest chance to give him this, he would happily risk his existence. "This is incredible, so much strength, so much vigor." The words were bubbling out of him without noticing. "If these People can be moved by this grail to such a degree, isn't it obvious that I should also attempt the same?" Yes, this was it. He only noticed that he had talked loudly a few moments later. |

Matt stared at the man with a blank look. He'd been talking loudly, nearly shouting, though he seemed more excited than angry. Certainly the power of a Servant was one to marvel at, but the warriors in the flame had barely started yet... When Arsene had calmed down, Matt spoke up."Yes... it does seem quite a spectacle, that event..." He glanced back at Arsene, wondering what would become of him if a battle broke out. Things would get bad if he couldn't defend himself. He looked back into the fire. The battle seemed to be picking up, as one man turned red and shook the earth. Against such a being, it was doubtful even Matt could survive. Finally dropping his gaze on his Servant, Matt spoke again. "Caster, what does this mean to us? Will we engage these Servants?" |

Gazing into her fire Skuld watched the waring orange figures with a deep feeling of apprehension. Besides the mortal Magi there were four Servants, two foreign spearmen, a bowman and.... a witch. The strength of all four was admirable, but it was the floating woman who drew her eye and fixed it there. Slender and graceful the woman floated above the battlefield like a Valkyrie, a silken dress of surpassing fineness falling about her feet, her face a picture of breathtaking beauty that defied description, and all of it crowned with a golden circlet proclaiming the weight of her royalty. She felt something strange rising in her chest, an unfamiliar feeling that threatened to scorch her refined composure. From the first days that she had flowered into womanhood, even despite all stigmas surrounding her birth, she had been held wide and far as the flower of Denmark, the daughter of elves. Even as they despised her and her husband the hero's siting in their halls had desired her because of her incomparable beauty. But that woman. That woman! The one had appeared before her in the fire was as far above her in beauty as her feet were above the heads of the Servants who scurried around below them. Something black and ugly rose up in Skuld's chest as she stared at the other Servant through the flames. Through her life she had never been a stranger to the feeling of envy. Envy of the other girls because of their fathers, envy of the power the warriors commanded, envy of her brother for his vast wealth and fame. But this envy was one that was quite new to her. She hated it instantly. That feeling however had not reached its full measure yet as she found a moment latter. It shifted, flowered into raw boiling animosity when the woman suddenly acted, conjuring a writhing tongue of crackling flame from nothing and unleashing it upon one of the hero's below. She could tell the difference between a Spell and a Noble Phantasm and what that woman has just unleashed though pure magic had been a spell, a divine command of fiery destruction that she instantly knew she could never match. Skuld bent down, her face dropping so close to the fire that the heat on her cheeks became painful. That Woman! This would not stand. She was the rightful queen of the north, and she had never even received her own proper crown! She had almost forgotten her original purpose when the Archer below the woman countered the flaming spell with some kind of arrow and dashed forward. She gave him a small cursory glance before her eyes darted back up to the floating obscenity. Maybe he would kill her? She hoped fervently that he would manage it, but his counterattack did not seem to be concerning the Witch... A moment latter the ground shook as if from a sudden earthquake, drawing her eyes to the other dueling faction, the two spearmen, Lancers both of them probably. She felt another ripple of frustration. That was wrong! They should both be attacking the floating woman! Even so she could not help but notice one of the spearmen, a tall man fair of face and strangely delicate in appearance, beautiful almost in a womanly way, something she found highly strange. Facing him was the other, a spearman wreathed in crimson ready to strike. It was clear that the battle was just about to begin in earnest and that either side was poised to obliterate the other. Her inspection of the battlefield was interrupted as Arsene suddenly broke out into speech. "This is incredible, so much strength, so much vigor. If these People can be moved by this grail to such a degree, isn't it obvious that I should also attempt the same?" Irritated at the distraction she turned away from the fire quickly and felt the dizziness that came from breaking trance to quickly wash over her making her sway on her feet slightly. "Yes yes." She said hurriedly, moving over to lean against the counter of her workbench. She massaged her temples lightly and gave the still crackling flames a look. Perhaps she had been mistaken. Sometimes things did not look the same through the fire as they did in real life. Perhaps the Caster, for that was surely what she must have been, was not really so beautiful as she had seemed. It was a possibility. Telling herself that did little to ease the bitterness that was stewing inside her however. She would have to see this Witch face to face and make sure. If she was... well, Skuld had been tortured to death. She was sure she could remember a few tricks if it came down to it. The thought of removing that face with a skinning knife brought her a shiver of righteous satisfaction. Perhaps she could remove the face of one of her uglier Draugr and sew it back onto that woman's head as a replacement? "Caster, what does this mean to us? Will we engage these Servants?" She glanced back up at her Master and realized that she had not even given one though to what they should do about this yet! This was bad, she was letting that woman unnerve her. She hadn't even spoken one word to her yet and she was already becoming unfocused to the point of distraction, something her old mentors would have chided her for. Passion could fuel powerful magic's but if left unchecked it could destroy the best laid plans. She could not loose her focus. It was that woman's fault that she had in the first place. That woman was making her loose her focus! What a bitch! It was not as if she was that much more beautiful than her! Besides, flashy magecrafts were often a sign of internal weakness on the part of the magician, this was also something that her old mentors had taught her. Surely this Caster was nothing more than a shallow conjuror of cheep tricks. Even her face could have been modified to such perfection using magecraft! That was probably it, no, that must be it. Perhaps she had nothing to fear from this charlatan? Somewhat calmer now that she considered this possibility she pushed herself off the counter she had been leaning against and moved back to the fire pit. The spell had been broken when she withdrew and now only embers danced in the flames that they had been staring into moments before. Whatever the situation with the other Caster it was only another incentive to take advantage of the windfall that had dropped into her lap. She considered her 'guest' once more. The man looked almost enthralled with what he had just seen. That would not do... "You seem quite impressed Mr. Arsene, but there is nothing especially extraordinary about any of those Servants I assure you." She said somewhat forcefully. "In any case, you must summon a Servant as well soon if you are determined to compete in this war. They will protect you and engage your enemy's in battle much the same as those did. Though of course, your success, no your survival would depend on whether or not you could summon a strong one. That and of course any friends that you could entrust to aid you in this coming war. A pity that you are so new to the world of magecraft and would seem but an outsider to most any of those masters. Mages are such a prickly band after all, I am afraid you wont have much chance with them." She smiled sympathetically at him and drew close, placing her hand lightly on his shoulder. "But don't worry. I am very generous to those who have become my Masters good friends." Edited by Beloss, May 19 2013, 11:48 AM.
