Arséne couldn't help looking somewhat embarrassed at Skulds short words to his outbreak of emotion. It was rare for him to act like this. He was more of the controlled type and preferred. The way Matthew had looked at him didn't help this feeling. It was only the memory of how dangerous the present woman was that stopped him from trying to crack some joke to take attention from his mistake. Sure, he didn't actually know what Caster planned and if she wanted to do something with him, but his experience with shady people told him to not trust her fully. Still, so far she had been acceptable and... Somewhat friendly, so he should return this. He was almost done with this silent contemplation while still remembering the wild battle when Skulds words brought him out of his inner thoughts. The woman spoke with a warm and almost motherly voice to him, no that wasn't quite right and he could not identify her intentions. She stepped nearer to him and placed one of her hands on his shoulder. He couldn't help blushing and again felt pretty embarrassed and out of his natural surrounding. Although he was nearly an adult, his experience with the female gender was quite limited. A small smile was forced on his face, though he had the strong urge to babble incoherently. Yes, Skuld was certainly attractive. His face turned to Matt and a single glance was exchanged that could hopefully send the message. HELP ME HERE!!! He returned his attention to the woman and tried to put his tongue in the correct position to talk. "Ah yes, Mister Matt mentioned a summoning. I heard that graveyards are quite effective, but I cannot say that I have ever done something like this." He hoped his voice didn't sound too shaky. "I am very thankful for your offer. I would love to work with you if both of you are alright with this." A small glance at Matt followed this. "Unfortunately I have no..." he tried to find the best words... "knowledge on how to summon such a Servant, so, could you maybe explain the necessary preparation?" It was a long shot, but maybe this woman could help him with the actual "summoning" part, the possibility existed after all. |

Skuld nodded still smiling at him, but inside she was impatient. The battle was still going on right now. If she left to join it now then perhaps she could ensure the other Casters destruction. This man could wait a few hours after all. But... if she could aid this man in his summoning, acquire the cooperation of another Servant, a Saber or a Lancer of her own, that could ensure her upper hand. And if she could do it right, then, well the possibility's were great. "Yes." She said sweetly. Arséne seemed uncomfortable as was often the way of younger men. It was a good sign. "As it happens we could teach you to summon a Servant, even help you in the war, but oh..." Her voice faltering she added in a subtle tone of doubt. Removing her hand from his shoulder she clasped her white gloved fingers together under her chin and sighed sadly. "Then I suppose sooner or latter we would be forced to end our acquaintance when the time came for you and Matt to fight. And who knows?" She added a small bit of fear to her voice. "Your Servant might be dangerous. He might be a powerful warrior with no honor or any regard for the delicacy of women. While I am a Servant, I'm afraid that in life I was little more than a wise woman, a seer from the North. This fire and a few other paltry tricks are all I have available at my disposal, so as you can see Matt and I are already in a precarious position as it is. What should I do if you summoned some barbarian who became determined to spill my blood as his first act in this world? No, no I'm sorry, but I could never risk something like that. I would endanger my Master as well as me, I'm afraid that its impossible.... Unless... of course..." She trailed off and gave Arséne a look of innocent hopefulness. "Unless you could do something to ensure nothing like that would happen." |

Matt continued to silently stare at the exchange taking place in front of him. It was all quite... odd, to say the least. Caster had gotten a bit closer to Fontaine, as if to speak a private message, grabbing the man's shoulder as she did so. She did speak to the man, but she seemed a bit more... irritated then normal. But the truly strange part was the man's reaction to the words. In response to Casters words of strength and friendship, the man seemed to blush. Matt's eyes narrowed as he contemplated the implications of such. Was Fontaine embarrassed by Caster's honorable goals? Even within the Sangke family, teamwork was proven to be the only way to solve the problems of the world. A man can't change the world by himself. Were such ideals of cooperation distasteful to a man like this? What kind of man was this Fontaine, anyway? They'd only just met on the street, neither Matt nor Caster knew anything of his history or nature. While doubt raged through his mind, Caster and Fontaine continued their conversation. The Servant's pitiful gaze brought Matt back into reality. "Unless you could do something to ensure nothing like that would happen." While doubt still stood in Matt's mind, confusion arose and took priority. He'd no doubt that his Servant could take on anything that came her way, be them Archer, Rider, Swordsperson or otherwise. Yet here she was, acting like a damsel in distress for Fontaine. Matt didn't think his Servant could look so helpless. So why was she behaving in such a manner... A slight smile crept upon his face. He'd known Caster was wise, but this exceeded even his expectations. In terms of the Grail War, Fontaine knew even less about the war than Matt; how would he know the strength of a Servant? Just like with Matt, Caster was testing the morals of the man before her. Would he aid someone weak and helpless, or would he leave her in her time of need? Was he the type of man worthy of embarking on the Holy Crusade led by the Servant, or were he a man fearful of friendship? Matt tossed a knowing glance at Caster, and sat back with a smug look on his face. |

Arséne tried to think straight while his face took more and more the colour of a burning fire. He was somewhat happy that Caster finally removed her hand from his shoulder and that helped his thoughts to return to their initial line. Her beautiful eyes pleaded... stupid hormones. He deliberately looked away and breathed a few times in and out to help himself. The words of the woman still reached him. He did feel bad for her, but if she was so... harmless, how did she actually expect to win? Her looked at her again. Yes, he couldn't allow a pretty face to trick him, no matter how ethereal... no, this was getting ridiculous. He was not some damned Teenager that had never touched a girl... well, he didn't really have experience with woman, but it wasn't a problem until now. "Unless you could do something to ensure nothing like that would happen." He surpressed a frown, but only barely. She was trying to trick him... and she was winning. He didn't have a way out of this. Sure, he could say no, and maybe develop the trick himself. It would probably only take around a year. This was his only way if anything the woman said was true. The other participants wouldn't help him and this would give him a decent chance. How to do this, he didn't like lying. "Of course I would not allow you to be harmed by some dishonorable chap for no reason if I can help it." There, did that have enough loopholes? "If there is some way to ensure that my Servant won't attack you without provocation, I would be happy to be of assistance." He would actually be happy to do so. It wouldn't do for his allies to get indisposed for some stupid reason like anger. |

Skuld smiled once more. She had not done anything like this for many years and had worried that she might be rusty after all this time, but then again perhaps such things never left one. "Well, there is one thing you could do." Carefully taking his hand she lifted it until his command spells were in plain view in front of his face. "These are your Command Spells. The symbols granted to you by the Grail to prove your authority to command a Servant. But they are more than merely symbolic. Your Command Spells are strange, they appear to be a single spiral, but most take the form of three distinct symbols which form a unified whole. While it may not appear this way, you have on your hand three sigils of great magical potency. Each of these sigils can be expended to issue your Servant one absolute command. A command which may not be contradicted or disobeyed. If you would have me aid you in summoning a Servant then, as soon as it appears I wish you to give it an order. Order it, and say it with meaning, to do neither me nor my Master any harm." She trailed off realizing something. She couldn't simply tell him to forbid harm to Caster, or else the rule might apply to any of the Casters summoned in the War. Another issue was time. If the time was made to long then the effects of the command would be diluted. These things might not have been an issue, but she sensed that Arséne was only a mediocre magi who's power would do little to augment the seals independent authority. She would have to have him word this very specifically... "Tell it: Upon this Command Seal I forbid you to harm either the Caster who aided me in your summoning, or her Master for a period of ten days. Do that and I will have the assurance that your intentions are good. Once we have struck and defeated a Servant I will take the Command Sceals from their Master and reimburse you for the Command Seal you used. Several times over, if the situation is good. Think of that for a moment." Edited by Beloss, May 22 2013, 02:53 PM.

He turned in all directions for a moment, trying to look like he was nervous. It wasn't very hard. This was a bad situation. If he agreed, it would make him helpless to them for at least 10 days and if he didn't. Well, he didn't want to find out what would happen. Still, maybe he could add something to the order. It was a specific, but not specific enough order that he could not do this or that. Arséne tried to smile at Skuld friendly and hoped that it looked right. Well, he was still a bit flustered by from her earlier actions, so any nervousness wouldn't be noticed. "I understand what you mean. Of course I will do this, after all, I could never forgive myself if my new friends were harmed by another like that." He did consider her a friend. In the sense that if you had such friends, you didn't need any enemies. Of course this would not just end up with him unlucky. An additional set of these command seals sounded useful. That was of course, if the woman was actually willing to hold her word. How about making a time-skip to the summoning? It sounds quite troublesome to explain everything for the summoning ritual to Arséne in the RPG and the summoning is not very complicated. Also, does anyone know if a Servant gets a Bonus for the help of a Caster in the summoning? |

Skuld nodded softly and smiled again, though it did not reach her eyes. The summoning then should be taken care of, at least to some degree if all went though correctly, but now she was faced with a more tactical decision. Summoning a Heroic Spirit would take time, not much granted, considering that they had an accepted Master ready and waiting to preform the deed, but still, at the moment to much time. The battle was still raging at this very moment, and if she hastened there now perhaps she could swing the tide in the favor of whoever was gunning for the witch... If she stopped to preform this summoning, however stronger it might make her position she could loose the chase at a crucial engagement. In a fight between four Servants, that meant four masters would be siting on the sidelines vulnerable. Play her cards right and that was 12 Command Spells that she could potentially lay her hands on! Or from a different angle, were she to present herself as an angel of mercy to the surviving loser's she could win over another valuable set of pawns... The recklessness of such a plan was easily apparent however even when only considering the most favorable outcomes. There was no telling whether or not other Servants would be drawn to the battle after she arrived or if the fruits of the endeavor would be worth revealing herself. She had already determined to take the slower path, and while the temptation of delivering a decisive strike was great, she had already committed to many of her resources to the methodical approach to justify suddenly changing tactics. A feeling of something like discouragement briefly made itself known, but she brushed it aside. If she could preform this summoning quickly enough it might be that there would still be time to pick up the tail end of the battle. Nothing like arriving late to the fight to pick off the stragglers and deny the weary victors their plunder, though truth be told such tactics left a bad flavor in her mouth. "Very good Mr. Arséne, we will begin at once." ______________________________________________________________ Going to: Arrival of the Moon Child Edited by Beloss, May 28 2013, 03:40 PM.
