General Rules 1. No chatspeak, very limited chatspeak may be used OOCly, however, we would rather people refrained from it, as it often streams into their roleplaying, and it reflects upon the person themselves as a roleplayer. And above all, be punctual, and use appropriate grammar and spelling. If you're not a very capable speller, run your work through a spell check before posting. Spelling mistakes happen, and as long as you make a consistent effort, then you are what we look for in a roleplayer.
You will be taken more seriously if your spelling and grammar is at a constant and good standard. This is not so much as a rule, as it is a guideline.
Also remember that we are all from different countries, and there are often minor spelling differences between countries. (For example, Australians use 'u' in a lot of words like colour and armour, which are spelt as color and armor by Americans.) Please be tolerant of this.
2. Be kind and others should return in the same manner. People will appreciate you more if you keep a cool head and remain polite. Everyone here is here to have fun, if you remain nice and positive, then others are likely to treat you in the same light.
3. Keep in character (IC) in character, and out of character (OOC) out of character, the best roleplayers are ones who can distinguish between reality and fiction, and one role from another. A character might be mean to your character, but that doesn't mean the person behind the character dislikes you. If someone does get confused between IC and OOC (which can happen), simply remain a better party and keep to IC and OOC.
4. Please remember that roleplayers here can be of all different ages and levels of emotional and mental maturity, also, some people may be offended by certain subjects and profanities. Characters engaging in sexual interactions will be asked to keep it to a private message level, however, characters may keep it to a vague level, and this will be publically acceptable.
Remember that what you are comfortable with might not be comfortable with another, and if your character becomes romantically involved, you should discuss with the other player about how you feel. Fading is also appropriate.
Please keep profanities, both OOC and IC to a minimum, particularly IC, as a lot of the profanities we use in modern days would not have been used in Pern times. You should have a decent idea about what sort of profanities are appropriate. If needed a list of Pernese curses will be posted in the 'Information Board'.
5. // Roleplaying will be accepted. (Homosexuality) People with any OOC issues regarding this will simply have to learn to tolerate it. However, IC we encourage that this should receive a lot of prejudice; in holds, as people within Hold society would be a lot less tolerant of it than a Weyr society. All // roleplaying will be treated the same as heterosexual romantic relationships OOCly. Remember that Weyrfolk are completely used to homosexuality.
6. Avoid one-liners. If you can't think of anything to write, describe something about your character that you've neglected too, or be selfish with your character and emphasise over their feelings, emotions and thoughts. Even if it doesn't seem like it's adding much to the situation, it further develops your character, and avoids you getting into a repetition of one-liners, and provides more interest for other players.
7. Do not metagame. Metagame is using OOC knowledge or knowledge that your character could not possibly know, and using it with your character. It might be from your character sensing another character's thoughts, gaining knowledge of something that you found out OOCly, or things your character could not possibly know. Metagaming is bad because it breaches the line between character and player, it can ruin plots and suspense, and can ruin other players enjoyment.
8. Do not control other characters reactions. This is sometimes known as powerplaying. Unless you have been given permission OOCly by another player within the thread you are currently in, you may not control another character or their reactions. The simple reason is that no one else has an understanding of how a character would react, except for that character's player.
9. Your character is not invincible, your character is mortal, your character can die, can be hurt, and at times, will be hurt. In hatchings and plots - like Thread - this is quite common. Though your character will not be killed without express permission, there is a high probability that they will be harmed. If you have a major issue with them being harmed, you must PM an admin and give us a reasonable reason why, but this only excludes you from one type of injury.
I.E. If you have an issue with us mauling your character at a hatching, we may harm them in Threadfall.
Roleplay Rules 1. Follow the plot- We don't mind if you have your own little mini plots and side things for your characters. In fact we encourage it even. But please be aware of what is going on in the main plot as these things affect your character in a broader sense.
- Sometimes, the admins will ask you to do something to help further the plot along. Please, you are free to decline, we're not here to bully you ^^ but, these plot things will be fun and have speeeecial thingssss. And yes, do keep the information secret. T'is more fun that way ^^.
2. Follow the limits- The site has limits to characters. Things that they can or cannot do. Can or cannot look like. What dragons they can or cannot have. Check the caps and limits when creating your characters.
3. Don’t power-play, don't god-mod- We mentioned this in the general rules. We repeat it again. It is that important. And is tolerance to different types of characters.
Candidate Rules 1. Candidates have separate barracks- According to gender. A Candidate cannot be in the barracks of the opposite gender before sunrise or after sunset.
2. Sexual activity- Is frowned upon but permitted. However, should a female Candidate become pregnant she will not be allowed to Stand until after she has the child, should the pregnancy become known.
- Since there are many ways of abortion on Pern but few preventative measures, contact an Admin if your female Candidate is involved with someone and they will flip a coin- best two out of three- to see whether or not she gets burned.
3. Lessons and chores- Will be assigned. Missing them will result in punishment, varying on the things missed and who the Candidatemaster is.
Weyrling Rules 1. Drinking Alcohol.- No. The effects of alcohol can confuse a young dragon at such a tender age, and you don't want to alienate them.
2. Sexual activity- Dragons mature much faster than humans, but before they're 8 months old they are not equipped to understand sex, nor the desire for it. Sex can have much the same effects on them as alcohol. By the tenth month, the most mature of the greens will be approaching their first Flights, and it's then that Weyrlings are encouraged to loose their virginity if they have not already done so. From that point on most dragons will be settled and fine with their Rider's habits, though the exact age varies from dragon to dragon and is something left up to the pair.
3. Flying and betweening- If you do this without permission. The punishments will be severe. You should not think yourself above the Weyrling Master.
Flight Rules 1. The female is in control- She decides who catches her and when. Other contestants will just have to learn to deal with it. There is no argument over this.
2. Location- The actual roleplay will be held over whatever location the female starts at and must be clearly marked; most commonly the Weyrbowl. After that, take her over whatever skies you want.
3. Clutches- If any, should be dealt with by the admins. Especially Da Clutch Masterz. The clutching Queen will be able to hold some sway over it. But the clutch sizes, dragon colors and which dragon goes to whom is decided overall by the admins. For hatching details, check the hatching rules.
- For flits, the colors will be determined by the admins. Everything else... falls to the clutching Queen.
Hatching Rules 1. Hatchings- Will be roleplayed by the clutching Queen and maybe a few admins who get involved, mostly Da Clutch Masterz.
2. For Flits- For flits, the colors will be determined by the admins. Everything else... falls to the clutching Queen.
3. Double Impressions- Will only happen with flits.
3. Re-Impressions- Is a pain, and highly unlikely. There is a small chance, but that's a very very slim chance.
Impression Rules 1. Mauling- Will happen every now and then. Unless you specified it or not, every candidate is free game.
2. Personality- As strange as it is, dragons and riders are generally matched based first of all on personality compatibility. Each dragon created has their own distinct one, and no one wants to see "their" dragons go to people who wouldn't be right for them.
3. The Clutch- Sometimes there just aren't enough dragons to go around, or else a specific color has already been picked out for a particular Candidate and there just wasn't room in the clutch for it. Just because your Candidate does not Impress immediately doesn't mean they're not loved.
4. The Player- Yes, this does matter, on three different cases. The first case is the "Queen-chasers", though the signals can be applied to any color a roleplayer covets. Basically, constantly hinting that your character would be the perfect Queenrider, is an almost certain way of not getting it. Admin don't want to be hassled or pressured. Making the character want a certain color ICly is fine and even encouraged, but there is a limit.
Now, assuming you're not a horribly annoying person, there's another reason why you may not have Impressed what you were expecting. Variety makes a difference, especially with the higher ranks. If you already have a bronzerider, the chances of your Candidate Impressing a bronze are much slimmer than the chances of someone without a metallic. To a lesser degree, this applies to other high-ranking creatures as well. So think about it. 5. Activity- If you prove to be inconstant or just plain inactive most of the time, you will not get anything special, no matter how much your character deserves it.
