It had only been about a day since Kyrri's official "Searching". She had been in the Weyr for a few days now, but ever since she had been told that she would stand at the next Hatching everything seemed different. The few halls that she had already explored in her short time here held a new feel. Even the people she passed seemed to her a diferent group of people. It was kind of odd. But then again, odd could hardly be used to describe anything in her life right now. She had only just days before left everything she knew to go on what was most likely the most exciting adventure of her life, and that was before she even had the opportunity to stand in a Hatching. A Hatching! What a wonderful thought. She had never attended one before, had never even seen a dragon close up for any long period of time before a few days ago. And what magnificent creatures they are! She had yet to truly experience the life of a Candidate yet. First she would have to move herself into the Candidate Barracks. Kyrri's eyes rose skyward as she wandered aimlessly across the bowl. The girl was doing her best to stay out of the busy areas of the Weyr now. Draconic shadows passed over every few minutes as their living counterparts flew overhead. Was it usually this busy in a Weyr? Kyrri had no idea, but she assumed that at least part of the activity was due to the fact that this was a new Weyr. Another shadow passed over, and she caught sight of a rather large dragon gliding down into another part of the bowl. If she had to guess, she would say that it was either a bronze or a brown. She had heard that aside from Queens, those were the two largest colors. Hopefully she would have the chance to meet a few of those dragons that she was only watching now. After several minutes of this wandering and musing, the small girl came to a stop. She closed her eyes for a minute to enjoy the sounds of the world moving around her. This was the exact spot that she had first slid down from the back of a dragon. It was this spot that Kyrri's feet had first touched down in her new home. This was where her adventure would begin. This was also the spot that she had arranged to meet with Tavien today. The only problem that Kyrri had found with all of this was the fact that she couldn't spend as much time with her brother as she wanted. They were both busy settling in and learning their new roles, so free time so far had been a little hard to come by. Yesterday when she had tracked Tavien down to tell him the good news, he was right in the middle of doing something (she hadn't quite seen what). Kyrri had rattled off all that she had to say before scurrying off to explore some more, but not before announcing that she would be waiting here in the bowl for him today so that they could discuss it in greater detail. The girl settled down on the ground to wait. Hopefully Tavien wouldn't be to busy today. Kyrri knew she could be out here quite a while if he was. |

Having been here such a short time, he was still getting into the swing of things. Often he just finished his tasks in time to move on to the next without being late. Classes almost seemed like they would overlap, but he dove into the work happily. If, oh how he hated that word, but none the less, If he became a Rider, he would need know everything that they had to teach him. Soaking it all up with a relish of someone who had grown bored with the known and loved learning of the unknown. It was hard work, both physically and mentally as well. Today he'd pushed himself harder than the last few days, Kyrri wanted to talk to him and he meant to make it possible that he could talk with her for longer than just a few moments. She'd been searched, and while it was a surprise, it was a welcome one. When she'd found him yesterday he'd just been elbows deep in a carcass, learning to carve the meat for hatchling dragons. They had to be just the right size not to choke them, thankfully he had a strong stomach, and had helped with the skinning, cleaning and butchering of the meals he and his family had so often shared while traveling from one place to another. Finishing only a few minutes later than he'd intended to thanks to helping one of his fellow candidates learn a quicker way to carve the meat off the bone he was hurrying a little. When he reached the bowl spotting his sister he slowed down, wondering how she was taking life here. It was the most they had been separated in a long time, even if they were still close to each other in location. Crouching behind her he tousled her hair before he spoke with a grin."And what are you doing sitting here in the middle of it all on the ground?" |

The attack on her hair was a bit of a surprise, Kyrri would later have to admit looking back on the day. It definitely wasn't an unwelcomed one though. The girl had been deeply lost in her own thoughts, enough so that she had missed the sounds of boots approaching from behind. It wasn't until he had his hand in her hair that she realized that anyone was behind her. Being small for her age, Kyrri was used to all manners of treatment like this. People would sneak up behind her and mess with her, sometimes in a 'cutsie' way, sometimes in a more rude way, but their intentions were always the same. They were bigger than her, better than her. They could pick on her if they wanted. At least, that's what they thought until they made that mistake with her. This time wouldn't be any different. Spinning around with surprising speed, Kyrri was just about to unleash a torrent of insults onto whoever her attacker might be. Her expression changed instantly when she saw who was there. "Tavien!" Kyrri cried, throwing herself onto her brother in an excited embrace. Sure, she had seen her brother yesterday, but that was only for a few moments. She missed the way things were before when they were together more, but she was surviving. The newly-searched candidate was normally incredibly slow to make friends with anyone, so seeing the one person she trusted most was always a good thing. A wide grin was plastered across Kyrri's face now. Stepping back, she whacked Tavien playfully on the arm. "Only waiting for you!." She teased. "And just what took you so long? I've been out here for turns!" The teasing was obvious in her voice, and excitement was plain on her face. "Can you believe it Tav? I was searched! I get to stand too!" |
