It was midmorning in Galvalin Weyr, and a fine morning it was, too. The weather was beautiful. It was looking like it would be the kind of day where people would do anything in their power to avoid responsibilities and just relax. This was probably far from what would actually happen today though. The Weyr was alive with activity. People rushed in and out of halls as they bussied themselves about the Weyr. As new as they were, there was a lot to be done to set up and everyone that could was helping in some way. People who had become designated 'leaders' of sorts for certain tasks shouted instructions while others shuffled around carrying those orders out. In some places, this work had begun to cause a little confusion. Still, everyone continued to press on diligently in hopes that soon things would settle down. It was in the dining hall where N'kar could be found, slowly pacing up one side of the hall and down the others, eyes trained hard on the ground. It was pretty obvious that he was searching for something, but it was anyone's guess as to what. Every minute or so, the man would stop, crouch down, and stare hard at the floor around him. Frustration mixed with disappointment plastered across his face when he resumed his pacing again. And why shouldn't he be frustrated? This was only the tenth or so time that he had been around here and still he hadn't found what he was looking for. His boots scuffed along the floor as he peered into every corner of the dining hall in his search. This is sharding ridiculous. N'kar thought to himself as he stopped his search for a moment to think. I know this was the last place I saw it, and I couldn't find it on the way down here. It HAS to be in here somewhere. N'kar sighed and grabbed a nearby seat. This had already taken far longer than he had expected. He was beginning to think he would never find what he was looking for. 'N'kar Mine, why are you so upset?' The brown's voice yawned into N'kar's mind. Rhiunth had apparently awoken from his little nap. Rhiunth, I've lost it. It's gone and I can't find it. I've been searching and it's nowhere to be found. N'kar answered. He slid his legs up out of the way as someone passed by. 'Lost what Mine? Perhaps you left whatever it is in our weyr?' Wishful thinking. It's my pendant. I had it with me when I came down here a little earlier but I can't find it now. In his mind, N'kar could feel Rhiunth becoming more awake. He knew the dragon would do anything to help His, but there was just no way he could help right now. With that thought, he leaned back in the chair and let out another frustrated sigh. "Ugh..." |

{{ Hope you don't mind me jumping in here. If you do, feel free to say as much and I shall disappear. xD }} "Shoo! Of you go, shoo!" The indignant sounding kitchenwoman flapped a piece of cloth in the Candidate's direction until he obliged by leaving her general vicinity, an indulgent grin on his face. As soon as she turned away, though, Chance's expression went from indulgent to frankly triumphant. He munched on the meatroll he'd managed to get away with as he ambled away from where people were bustling about the kitchens, his mind already on what to do next. Obligation demanded he check what chores he was required to do and to make sure he didn't neglect them, but at the same time he wouldn't mind lazing around the Candidate Barracks for a while. While it was true Chance was excited about the opportunity to Stand for a Dragon, there was still an element of unreality to the whole thing, as though he'd stepped from reality and into one of his fondest dreams. Which, although he'd never say it aloud, for fear it sounded cliche and...Well...girly, he couldn't deny (to himself, at least) that it was a fairly accurate description of how the situation struck him. He'd been raised at his father's knee with stories of Dragons and Dragonriders and he had a distinct memory of making off with his then-mother-figure's broom and pretending it was his dragon, straddling it and riding it around his home, much to his father's amusement and Ellen's consternation. But then, he reflected, it was no longer her concern, now was it? He was intending to leave the Kitchens when he found himself drawn to a stranger who was acting, well...Rather strangely. Chance meandered a little closer, paused and then lingered to watch as the man (he assumed Rider) paced back and forth, occasionally pausing, with the distinct air of someone determinedly hunting something. Eventually, he seemed to give up and sat down, at which point Chance wandered even closer, the man's frustration apparently not a strong enough deterrent to Chance's natural tendency to be curious and usually inclined to help. One eye on the ground, Chance angled himself into the Rider's field of vision, smiling his usual friendly smile, if not with the same amount of charm Chance usually accorded to those of the opposite gender. "I couldn't help notice ye seemed to be lookin' for somethin', an' havin' a wee bit of trouble findin' it. Perhaps I could help ye?" The smile widened into a grin and, sort of as an afterthought, Chance offered the meatroll (he'd stolen a grand total of three and had already consumed two) he was still holding to the Rider. "Care to share me hard earned spoils?" He inquired with another casual grin. Edited by Eza, Apr 18 2010, 09:56 AM.

The voice that he heard caught N'kar by surprise. He wasn't aware that someone had been paying much attention to him, though when he thought about it it wasn't that hard to believe. With the way he had been pacing around the hall he must have caught someone's notice. Opening his eyes and looking up toward the voice, the brownrider caught sight of a rather tall young man he guessed to be somewhere around late teens to early 20's. He didnn't recognize the boy immediately, so he figured that he wasn't a rider. The rider sighed, still quite annoyed by the fact that he couldn't find one of the few things he still had of the parents that died when he was so young. This wasn't like back in his old weyr. If he lost it back there, just about everyone knew it belonged to him. It probably would have been returned before he even realized he lost it. No one really knew about it here, so he knew he would have to find it himself. Grunting a little in slight anger, N'kar stood and looked the boy straight on. "I did lose something, but I doubt you'd be able to help." He almost growled as he spoke. Afterall, what could this kid do that he hadn't done already? The smile the boy was offering made him feel bad for being such a jerk. He sighed once more and shook his head. "I'm sorry. Just a bit frustrated is all. I lost something important and it just doesn't seem to be anywhere. It's not like it could just up and walk away, but I had it not even 20 minutes ago and it just isn't here." N'kar shrugged, looking around again from where he stood, not finding anything. figures... The rider looked back again, an almost tired half smile on his face now. "You can keep your meatrolls, I ate earlier. That's when I lost it." he laughed in spite of himself. "You're welcome to help me look if you want though. I suppose a bit of help couldn't hurt." |
