Kyrri drudged into the Candidates' Barracks and flopped onto her cot. She had had a long day. The girl had never imagined Weyrlife to be so much work. After a full day of chores and lessons she was worn out. If every day was going to be like this, she wasn't sure she would survive until the Hatching.

"It's definitely not all draons and thread, that's for sure..." she mumbled face-down into the furs. Never before had Kyrri been so glad to find herself in such a position. After a few minutes of grinning stupidly into her bed she finally got the sense to look around barracks. Proping herself up on her elbows, she glanced around to see who else might be nearby. There wasn't a soul in sight. Or, none that she could see at least. She was the only one there so far. It was possible that they were bathing. Kyrri had thought about searching out the baths herself before heading back here, but in the end she had decided to wait.

The Candidate walked around for a minute, looking around. Still no one. And what a shame that was. She had hoped to introduce herself to the other girls. Afterall, that was how she was. Introduce yourself first and size them up before they had a chance to form an opinion of you. That was the way she always did things. It was one of the ways she had learned to help defend herself against the teasing. If she jumped on someone new before they came to her, she could show that she wasn't some scared little girl before they started assuming she was 'fragile' or started teasing her for being short. She hated that.

There really wasn't much more for Kyrri to do. She could have done a little more investigating, but she didn't think there was much more she could gain from that as of right now. Instead, she decided that she would wait around for a bit and see if anyone showed up. They would have to eventually. This was where the Candidates slept, and it would be getting late before too long.

Her steps were almost silent, not wishing to disturb anybody who might already be sleeping in the barracks. Though as she stepped within the rooms, she found that she had needlessly worried. The males were upon the other side of the barracks, after all, they would not be allowed here after a certain time without the threat of punishment if they were found. And the only other female candidate here was still wide awake.

Helitet smelled of a bath, having just gotten out of it. It was either that, or she smelled of sweat, having been doing her assigned chores as a candidate throughout the day. After all, there was always that side of being a dragonrider, not just the glory and joys of a dragon. Though, she supposed, the bond with one would make it all worth while. Judging by the bonds her brothers had with theirs. It wasn't as if she didn't have chores to do back in the Hold anyways.
Noticing Kyrri Helitet's lips pulled up in a smile as she stopped, bowing her head in a greeting. She made a gesture with her hands and turned her head in a question she wasn't sure if the other girl would understand.
Still, she supposed she had to try.

The other girl that had materialized before Kyrri had come so quietly that it had seemed to be just that. Kyrri almost jumped when she turned to see Helitet standing before her, smiling quietly. With shining, curious eyes, the girl looked over this new arrival carefully. She scanned her completely, almost as if she were sizing up the competition. But wasn't that almost what they were? Maybe not exactly in that sense, but still.

After what was likely an awkwardly long pause, Kyrri stepped forward and offered her hand. A smile played across her lips in as friendly a way as could be expected from the small girl. She was, afterall, not the quickest to make friends in most situations.

"Hello there. I suppose you're a Candidate as well then? Name's Kyrri." The girl said, standing straight so as to make the right impression. She was friendly, but not overly so. One could sense a bit of distance in the way she spoke. She watched Helitet curiously. She seemed like a nice enough girl, but you could never really be sure. Kyrri had found enemies in even some of the nicest-seeming people she had met. The only way to know for sure would be to see where things would go from here.

Helitet didn't at all seem comfortable beneath Kyrri's searching gaze, shifting her weight from one foot to another as the awkward pause stretched on. For Helitet, silences said a lot, for not all of them were the same. There were tensed moments, relaxed ones... and of course, the silent understanding and affection of... say... two lovers. Or between a brother and his younger sister. There were little things that made silences different, and for a girl who lived much her life in one prolonged silence, Helitet learned to recognize some of these.

After the long pause however, as the other girl offered her hand with a smile which Helitet returned somehwat shyly, she took the offered hand. She nodded, and seemed to concentrate on something. Her mouth opened, a soft noise emitting from her barely audible if not for the already strong silence about them. "He... heh..."
Looking frustrated, the candidate shook her head before trying again, "Heh..li...tet" she managed to drag out. Weak as it was, it managed to get the job done at least. Helitet grinned in a sort of proud manner, her hand still gripping Kyrris as her other one raised to her chest and tapped her chest with two fingers.

The message was clear. Her name was Helitet, and yes she was a candidate. The quiet little girl titled her head slightly then, blinking at Kyrri in an innocent fashion.

Kyrri picked up on how uncomfortable Helitet seemed and felt a little bad. Just because she didn't make friends easily didn't mean she was rude. The girl didn't realize that Helitet could read so much from a simple pause in conversation. But then again, after she spoke she had a pretty good idea why.

As Helitet introduced herself, Kyrri watched with curiousity and a vague nterest. She was very quiet. In fact, it seemed like she almost couldn't speak. Kyrri wondered if maybe this had caused problems for Helitet in her life. Kyrri was always a very small girl, and traveling as a trader she had met good deal of people over her life. She knew how they could be. If someone was different, people would feed on it, use it against them, make them feel bad. Kyrri had dealt with it all her life, even from some of her family. Maybe this was a connection she had with Helitet.

A smile grew across Kyrri's lips. She didn't see much of a problem coming from Helitet. She might even trust her some. A common problem could do a lot for things like that. Besides, the other candidate didn't seem much like the kind to ridicule a girl for being smaller than everyone else.

"Helitet... Pleased to meet you." Kyrri grinned. She wanted to learn as much about her as she could. "If you don't mind my asking, how long have you been a candidate here? I'm kind of new to it..."

The smile across Hetliet's features stayed, a friendly thing that suited the quiet girl quite well. She took in Kyrri's question and seemed to struggle for a moment. Then, she held up her hand, fingers held close together with that somewhat sheepish grin.
A little while, she's only been a candidate for a little while as well.
Then she held her hand up to her throat and struggled with her words for a moment, "Bro... bro..thers... ri...ders."

She gestured outside of the barracks, hoping that Kyrri would get the message. It was true after all, she had quite a few siblings who were riders, and right here in this very Weyr as well too. Her sister on the other hand.. Well, Melin was still in Southern Weyr, watching over the Hold from where they had come from.
The almost mute candidate watched Kyrri, taking the time now to take in just how the other girl looked. Kyrii was, Helitet guessed, younger than herself, maybe around fourteen to fifteen. Not that much younger, but younger none the less. The other girl stood shorter than herself as well by the slight. Not by much, as Helitet was a little under the average height herself.

She appeared rather fragile, but if there was one thing that Helitet knew, it was not to judge from appearances.
B'net was a large fellow, but he was a gentle and quiet soul, though Helitet didn't know that particular brother very well, having only actually fully met him when she had came to the Weyr as a candidate. He had been searched shortly after she had been born after all.
Cernt himself was forgettable in terms of appearances, but people remembered him. His personality was a rather overbearing one at most times. And G'tet, ah... G'tet. He looked like a rugged man, spoke like one too, but he was really a gentle man at heart.

Helitet wondered, then, what this girl was truly like beneath her appearances. Friendly enough so far anyways. She brought her hand up to her chest then, "Si...si...blings?"
Well, normally, a person wouldn't ask about somebody's siblings first up. But Helitet was often curious about such things. Coming from the large family that she did, it really wasn't that much of a surprise really, that she was curious about the brothers and sisters of others.

So Helitet hadn't been a candidate long either. It seemed they had a lot in common so far, which was weird as far as Kyrri was concerned. She never really had much in common with anyone. It was an interesting experience really. One that she was considering persuing further. Maybe she had actually found someone other than her brother that she could stand to be around, and living the much more solitary life of weyrfolk now, she supposed that this would be a good thing. She needed a few people she would be able to count on, especially if Tavien Impressed and she didn't. If that happened, she knew he wouldn't have the time to always look out for her as he had growing up. Kyrri sighed a little at this thought. Things had changed so much in such a short, unexpected time.

Kyrri's smile faltered for a moment as she tried to figure out what Helitet's gestures meant. The point hit her and she inhaled sharply with her understanding. "Ohhh, ok. So your brothers dragonriders. That's so cool!" Did this mean that Helitet was almost sure to Impress? Kyrri wasn't sure, but for a moment the thought made her reconsider her decision against Helitet being a threat. Kyrri was usually very competitive, afterall. But after a moment she decided that this was silly. Kyrri kind of liked Helitet so far. It would be stupid to lose a potential friend over something that neither of them could control. She wouldn't let that bother her. Not at all.
"I would love to maybe meet them sometime. I don't really know anyone here." the girl laughed, looking a little embarrassed for reasons she didn't really know.

The small girl nodded. "I have a few siblings. None are riders though... Yet." she answered, her smile now full-fledged once again. "My brother Tavien is a candidate as well. I would love to see him become a rider." Kyrri was beaming now as she imagined her brother as a rider. She was sure he could do it.

She shook herself from that thought and lokked back at Helitet. "Sorry about that, didn't mean to stare!" She apologized quickly. "So if your brothers are riders then, have you lived in a Weyr all your life?" It was a question Kyrri hoped wasn't overstepping any boundries. They had only just barely met and she would hate to seem rude.

Her brothers were dragonriders, but it didn't really mean anything. After all, not all of her father's children turned out searched, and her sister still in Southern didn't share any blood with her at all really. Melin had been the daughter of her brother's mother... and... her family relations were just ever so complicated.
Helitet smiled though, nodding her head. She did have to introduce Kyrii to her brothers, if nothing but to help ease communication. G'tet and Cernt had always had a strange understanding of what she wanted to say after all.

Still, she wasn't sure if she herself would impress at all. Yes, Cernt did, but only after his second standing on the sands. She grinned then, as Kyrii mentioned her brother, nodding again. She wondered, briefly, then if she had already met her brother... glimpse of other candidates often pass through her head. Candidates often worked together in their chores after all. Even if they don't interact much outside of that.

There was a shake of her head then. No, she hadn't always lived in a Weyr. She concentrated for a moment, struggling with her words, "So...sou...thern..." Southern Hold. That was where she had came from after all. Her brothers had been searched from there as well, and she brought her hand up to her mouth, biting softly on the nail of her index finger as she tried to find a way to say what she wanted to next.

"Ha...ha...tch... ching?"
The hatching, yes. That was it. But how to carry out the rest of it? She pulled her hand from her mouth then, gesturing outside with a questioning turn of her head.
Her question really was just how Kyrii thought the hatching would go. But it really was rather difficult to bring that through.

Helitet's nod pleased Kyrri. It seemed the girl agreed with the idea of introducing her to her brothers. How exciting! Hopefully she was going to meet riders! A stupid thought, of course. She was in a weyr now afterall, but still. The girl's mind swirled with questions. What were they like? Were they quiet like Helitet? Or maybe they were very talkative. And just how many brothers did she have here? What were their dragons like? Did they ride large bronzes and browns that sunned themselves proudly where all could see? Or ere they partners to blues and greens that flew acrobatically over the bowl, showing everyone that they were the true rulers of the winds? Kyrri wanted to know the answers to these questions, among others, but she felt that it was probably a bit much to hit Helitet with right now. Instead, she let the subject drop for the time being.

Kyrri beamed, Helitet's nod encouraging her to tell more about her brother. "Tavien is two turns older than I am, but I've never had a closer friend than him. He's always looked out for me, as long as I can rememer." The candidate blushed a little thinking of her brother. It was probably pretty obvious that she thought highly of him. And why shouldn't she? She had a bond with him the likes of which no one else came close to as of yet.
"I'm sure he'll impress. I can't imagine him not impressing, actually." She sighed. "I just hope he doesn't leave me behind when he does." Kyrri laughed a little at her own comment.

"Southern... Southern Hold?" Kyrri paused a moment, chewing at her lip as she tried to remember what she knew about it. "Were you fond of it? Living there?" She asked at last.

Helitet's next question confused Kyrri a little. "Hatching..." She thought a moment. There was a lit that Helitet could be asking. Had she ever been to a hatching before? Did she know what to expect from one? What did she think about how it would go? Kyrri was admittedly a little lost on how to answe that one. Embarrassed, she shrugged.
"I... I'm sorry. I'm not quite sure what you're asking." She confessed, feeling for a moment a little stupid.

Communication was a problem that Helitet suspect she would be having for pretty much the rest of her life. So she wasn't really surprised when Kyrii didn't quite understand her question.
Rather, the nearly mute candidate merely took her time to try to answer the other's question. She shrugged slightly as an answer. Remembering growing up in the Hold. It wasn't bad... but it wasn't all good either. Jakal was... frightening, but she had Cernt and G'tet... and Melin once in a while. After that, she had learnt to simply avoid the negative Jakal the best she could.

It wasn't completely... happy... but yes, she probably could have continued living there. Not easily and not completely happily, but content enough she supposed. There was the sound of footsteps that made her turn her head though, watching the entrance to the barracks.
Well, surely, nobody would be here at this time now would they? So close to the curfew when boys were no longer allowed in the girl's side and the other way around as well.

"It's a mess in here, and this is the female's side. I hate to think what it would be like on the male's side... It was never this messy when I was searched."
The voice held a tone of arrogance in it that often irritated people, and it was one that Helitet recognized.

There was a smile tugging upon her features, which widened somewhat as another voice, this one slightly deeper intoned in reply.
"No. I suppose not. You were always a neat man... But we're not here to discuss the state of the candidate barracks, we're here to find her and wish her well."
"Yes, I suppose so... Pity we couldn't visit sooner. I missed her," the tone had softened somewhat now.

Helitet grinned, shaking her head and turning to Kyrri, it seemed that her newfound friend would be meeting her brothers sooner than expected.
She turned her head somewhat in a questioning manner and gestured towards the sound of the voices.
Was Kyrri ready to be introduced?

Helitet's last question was what Kyrri was focusing on when she too heard the footsteps in the hall. At first, she thought nothing of it other than more cnadidates coming back to stay for the night, and she had no reason to believe otherwise. The thought did make her wonder just how many other candidates there were here, but she supposed it wouldn't be more than a day before she had a good enough idea. The steps grew closer and she began to fidget a little, preparing to throw back on her tough, proud exterior wall. More new faces meant more people to 'attack before they attacked her', for lack of a better way of explaining it.

It was the voice that threw her off. A male voice, and an interesting one too. He sounded... older. And the word "searched" helped her confirm that much at least. It seemed that whether or not this man impressed, he was likely to old to stand in a hatching now. All of this only served to confuse Kyrri further though. If all of this was true, what on Pern was he doing in the female candidate's barracks this late?

Then came another voice, similar to the first in that it belonged to what was probably another man to old to be a candidate. What could possibly be going on? Was this a normal thing? Whatever was going on, Helitet seemed to understand. Kyrri could see the smile growing plainly on her face, and she wished she would let her in on it. Her gestures seemed to imply that she wanted to go out there and meet the voices. Kyrri assumed she knew these men. Maybe they were her brothers. Odd that they would walk in so soon after the discussion they had just had.

Whoever they were, Kyrri was willing to go meet them. A nod and a half-sly smile told Helitet that she was ready for whatever they were about to step into. She straightened her back, set her shoulders, puffed up her chest, and set her face with its usual challenging smile. Yes, she was ready.

The two that stepped in were indeed older men. Both rather forgettable in terms of appearances. It certainly wouldn't be easy picking them out from a crowd unless one was specifically looking for them in the first place. They stood at about the same height, though one was decidedly a lot rugged then the other. A five o'clock shadow and sideburns, and the other somewhat feminine in nature, slender shoulders and all. The first looked rather rough, while the second was quite... mild, to say in the least.

Yet, there was that way that they held themselves. Cernt was certainly not mild, that air of pride and downright arrogance within his stance making him stand out when his appearances failed to. G'tet however, was a rather calm persona.
Still, it was G'tet who spoke first, holding out his arms as Helitet ran into them with a hug, "Hey there little wherryhead, you're back here to make my life the bottom of the dung heap again?"
His voice was gruff, and so were his words, yet Helitet didn't seem to mind. After all, that was just the way he spoke. She knew that despite that, G'tet really was the gentler of the pair here. Cernt merely rolled his eyes when she hugged him as well, though with less force, "Hmp. I missed you as well Helitet. Not that that really matters."

As she let go of both of them, she stepped back to Kyrri, head turning slightly. Cernt arched an eyebrow, G'tet merely smirked slightly. The older man elbowed the younger one, who glared at him before sighing. He sounded almost irritated, as if he was merely stating something that everybody should have known. Then again, this was the man who believed that his name should be recorded down in histories after all.
"I suppose you're one of Helitet's friends? Hrm. I'm Cernt of Green Heleth, who's currently outside sunning, also her older brother."
G'tet grunted somewhat, his tone rough upon the edges, and his insults still there, but with a friendly nature beneath it all... if one looked hard enough, "G'tet. The useless pile of wherryhide outside there is my Brown Xierth. I'm... sad to say I'm related to both these dimglows over here."
Even as he said that however, the way he seemed to watch them both showed that he was really actually quite proud of both his siblings.

Helitet seemed to laugh at his words, shaking her head. She backhanded G'tet's chest, shaking her head and fixing her eyes on Kyrii. Really, she was saying, don't take his words at face value. What he says and what he means can be two different things all together.

So Kyrri had been correct in guessing that these men were indeed men and not boys belonging to the other side of the barracks. The question now was just who were they then? Kyrri stood slightly off to the side, studying them carefully. Her eyes scanned over the pair, taking in whatever details she could find about them, striving to figure them out before they could say a word to her. They were similar in ways that suggested to her that they might be related. Similar in height and the fact that they both seemed like they could easily disappear into a crowd.

Their postures however could easily set them apart from each other. One of them seemed like a calmer man, one that Kyrri wasn't quite sure what to expect from. The other looked proud, even more so than the facade that Kyrri herself tried so hard to uphold in the pressence of others. He looked more like the kind of person Kyrri had grown to dislike over the course of her life. He seemed like the kind of man that wouldn't be afraid to say what he thought of someone directly to their face, and Kyrri didn't like where that often ended up when she was involved. He was the one she would have to impress.

The little reunion was rather touching, Kyrri thought as the girl watched Helitet hug the men. These must be Helitet's brothers; the riders they were just talking about. The first man teased his sister in a way that only close family would, and for a minute Kyrri wondered where Tavien was. She hadn't seen her brother for any good period of time in days.
The second man said his hellos, and Kyrri made note of the stiff way he spoke. It was a wonder Helitet got along with him, at least in Kyrri's mind. But then again, the girl knew very little of their bakground and how they grew up, and she supposed family love could look like a lot of things.

Lost in her musings, Kyrri was caught a bit off guard when Cernt introduced himself. So he was a greenrider... She wondered just what his dragon was like. And the other a brown. Kyrri wondered what color Helitet might end up riding.

The girl giggled a bit in acknowledgment of G'tet's sarcasm. He seemed like a nice enough man, and Cernt, arrogent though he looked, hadn't said anything to offend her yet. Without skipping a beat, Kyrri stepped up to them. She stood tall and proud, almost trying to challenge Cernt with her look, small though she was, and looked them both in the eye. She held a look of self-assuredness, trying to show that despite her size she wasn't fragile and afraid, and that she was one that would bite back if attacked. A smile then, friendly enough and she nodded a little half-bow to both of them.
"Hello Cernt of green Helitet, G'tet of brown Xierth. I'm Kyrri, Candidate and hopeful future rider. Pleased to meet you both." Her voice was calm but welcoming. They were Helitet's brothers, after all. She felt that she could probably trust them.

Cernt didn’t at all seem bothered by the way Kyrri introduced herself. In fact, the Greenrider barely seemed phased at all that she wasn’t bothered by him. Instead, he had that air of arrogance about him still, and his expression was one set in a way that showed that he really didn’t at all care what the candidate might or might not say about him. Cernt’s arrogance was a rather unique blend, as Kyrri might find out.
G’tet however, did have a reaction. He arched an eyebrow at the way she held herself, but didn’t quite say anything. He did nod however, “A pleasure… I hope the hatching goes well for you.” His tone was polite, overly so perhaps. Still, that was just the way G’tet after all. The man was either so utterly formal it was painful, or he swore and cuss at you like there was no tomorrow and between was going to swallow them up at any given minute.

Helitet shook her head at both her brothers, noting that Cernt didn’t at all respond at all. Still, she should have expected it from that man. Instead, she turned back to Kyrri, while, at the same time, sending her elbow into Cernt’s chest. The Greenrider hissed at her. Not because he was injured, but because he simply seemed… displeased. Then with a roll of his eyes, he spoke, “Kyrri… then… I take it Weyr life has been… suitable for you?”
He asked the question with an air of a man who didn’t actually want an answer and was simply just asking. A sort of casual manner that proved that he really didn’t care. Helitet sighed, shaking her head. This was the reason why nobody believed it when she tells of how Cernt used to be one of them that used to protect her from bullies back in the Hold.

The nearly mute merely went back to Kyrri, gesturing outside. It was a question as to if her fellow candidate wanted to go outside and meet the dragons that her brothers had bonded to. To be honest, she herself wanted to meet them. Yes, she’s seen them every now and then when her brothers visit, but her mother had never actually allowed her close to either one… and she was just so utterly curious as to how both Green and Brown were like up close.

Helitet's brothers were a strange bunch, that was for sure. Cernt's better-than-you attitude was something that Kyrri wouldn't usually do well with, but she was doing her best now not to try and out-do him. She would put up with him though. She didn't want to go around offending any dragonriders, and certainly not if it would offend Helitet in the process. Kyrri never made friends, she was better off keeping the few she might be fortunate enough to find. So the girl bit back a response and responded to the man with a kind smile.
"I've enjoyed every moment of my time here so far." She replied, nodding once for emphasis. Let him think what he would, so long as he didn't go to far.

G'tet on the otherhand, now he was a different story all together. Kyrri happened to miss the way he looked at her, but his response was interesting enough on its own. She flashed him a quick grin as well. She couldn't quite figure him out.
"Thank you." She replied happily. "I'm excited about it. I've never even seen a hatching, much less stood in one before." She added, a spark flashing through her eyes as she spoke.

Kyrri wasn't quite sure what Helitet had meant by her gesturing, but whatever it was seemed like a good idea. This room was getting a little to stiff for her liking. G'tet had said his dragon was outside, hadn't he? Maybe that was what Helitet meant. Either way, going outside sounded great. She nodded excitedly to the other girl. "After you." She grinned.

Helitet grinned at Kyrri's answer, stepping outside of the barracks in a rush. Behind, G'tet shook his head.
"She's always been like this hasn't she?" he drawled out. Cernt shrugged, "Only when it came to us... Jakal... was a different story." This caused a sigh from the older man, "That's because Jakal was a harsh man Cernt. A harsh man who was the result of difficult circumstances."

As they stepped outside, there was indeed, the dragons. A pale hued Green who laid out upon the ground, catching Rukbat's last rays. Her neck arched and her head turned as she spotted her rider and his companions. There was a soft trill then as she got up, pushing her head right up to the two candidates.
Swirling eyes hinted at curiosity, and her tail twitched. Cernt grunted, "Heleth. This would be Helitet and Kyrri."

G'tet, on the other hand, was looking elsewhere now. He was, in fact, looking above the barracks that they had just exited. The Bronze like Brown was atop the structure, his head lowered as he watched them. A large creature, Xierth remained silent, though he nodded his head towards his rider.
Helitet grinned at the sight of both dragons, reaching out to pet Heleth who allowed the nearly mute girl to do so by covering what little distance there was between her snout and Helitet's hand. The Green fixed a questioning eye upon Kyrri then, as if asking the other candidate to give her a good scratch too.

Kyrri dashed out of the barracks quickly on Helitet's heels, managing to miss all of her brothers' comments but for the vague mumbling that was the noise of someone speaking in the background. She ignored it more or less though. No attempt was made to conceal her joy. She was going to meet their dragons! A green and a brown. How exciting was that? Aside from the searchrider's dragon that she had ridden to the Weyr with Tavien, she hadn't ever really 'met' a dragon. Then again, the searchrider's dragon probably didn't count much. It wasn't like she had actually had much interaction with that one. This was far different.

The first dragon that caught Kyrri's eye was Cernt's green. She was a beautiful pale shade of green too. The way she was laying on the ground the light reflected beautifully off of her, almost like a spotlight. Kyrri slowed suddenly and stared a moment. She had never really had a chance to appreciate a dragon so close. Heleth. Then the girl turned to see Xierth's great frame atop the barracks. He too was a magnificent creature, with a hide of more beautiful shades than she could count and features befitting almost a bronze. Kyrri suddenly held a new respect for Helitet's brothers.

Kyrri was amazed by Heleth as the dragon inspected them. A little embarrassed, she realized that she probably looked silly to the others around them now. Could she be blamed though? This was something new to her. Carefully, the girl reached her own hand out toward the green as Helitet had done and scratched the dragon as well.
"Hello Heleth." Kyrri beamed as she spoke. "You're a beautiful dragon."

One could see Heleth preen as she was complimented, and the action caused Helitet to laugh silently. A shaking of her shoulders, that lighting up of her eyes. Helitet was a quiet girl, but it didn't mean that she didn't communicate. In fact, despite being shy, the candidate really was quite friendly.
"You like it whenever anybody compliments you, you attention seeking wherry," Cernt's voice drawled out, but he passed the message on anyways. "She says thank you, and that you can keep on complimenting her if you wish."

The Green let out a rumble, as if amused, and continued to allow the two candidates to scratch her. Atop the barracks, Xierth had arched his neck to look upwards in the skies, Rukbat beginning it's rapid decent across the horizon.
While still scratching Heleth, Helitet watched the Brown almost curiously, before reaching out with her free hand and tugging upon G'tet's sleeve. The Brownrider arched an eyebrow for a moment as Helitet pointed at Xierth in a questioning manner before laughing.

"Yeah. He's just about as silent as any dragon can get. Doesn't talk much with words, but he's rather like you in that aspect, eh you little dimglow?" Helitet grinned and G'tet rolled his eyes, calling up to his Brown.

"Oie, wherryhide, get your fat behind down here and make some friends." Xierth twisted his head about, and if a dragon could have expressions, his would be amused. A spreading of his wings as the not Bronze Brown statue swooped down, landing neatly besides Heleth and lowering his head in a bow towards the two candidates. A gentleman, if nothing else.

The message Cernt relayed from Heleth to the candidates caused a fair amount of laughter from Kyrri. She dipped her head briefly in thanks and continued to scratch the green.
"You're very welcome." she said, shooting a quick glance in Cernt's direction. She was curious just what Heleth might be saying to her rider. It wasn't that she was worried about what Heleth thought, no, Cernt definitely didn't seem like the kind of man that would tell them Heleth was thanking them while secretly discussing them in unfavorable ways. If Cernt said that she thanked them, chanes were that she probably did. It was more that Kyrri wondered what it was like to have that constant link with your partner and to be able to have an entire conversation mentally like that. Kyrri shook her head. She knew so little for living in a Weyr now.

The show that Xierth made of himself as he made his way down to where the candidates stood amused Kyrri. It seemed that dragons could be such silly creatures sometimes. Returning his bow with a show of her own, the girl moved a little closer to the brown.
"Hello to you too, Xierth. You're both such lovely creatures." She said, smiling with her excitement at Helitet. Then turning to G'tet the girl questioned the rider.

"How old are they?"

Cernt was indeed the type of man not to tell any lies. The Greenrider had always been blunt like that after all. It ran in the family, he supposed. Heleth seemed all together amused as Xierth came down from his perch atop the barracks. It wasn't as if the Bronze like Brown wanted to be dramatic, it was just that his form was just that. Dramatic.

Xierth nodded his head at the compliment, settling upon the ground and crossing his forepaws in front of himself. He looked quite regal really, just laying there. He blinked once as his rider at Kyrri's question. G'tet, on the other hand, shrugged.
"Xierth here is ten, Heleth... if memory serves, is four," he looked to Cernt who shrugged, then nodded.
Helitet had moved away from Heleth now, holding a hand up to Xierth. The Brown blinked slowly at her, and then lowered his head to it. Pressing his snout into her open hand, it closed his eyes, and shifted the rest of his body.

G'tet groaned, "Great... now the two silent ones are going to have a conversation that nobody else understands."

Kyrri nodded slowly in response to G'tet's answer. So Xierth was older. The girl wondered silently if their respective clutches had come from the same two parent dragons. Not - she figured - that that sort of thing mattered much to dragons. She wondered if they behaved like siblings when their riders were together, if that ever happened all that often. Xierth was quite a sight either way. Something about how regal he looked made Kyrri giggle just a little.

Turning back, Kyrri gave one final pat and a quick 'thanks' to Heleth before following Helitet to Xierth. She approached him slowly. Something about him made it seem almost as if she were appraoching royalty. She had heard once when she was much younger that golds and bronzes especially acted this way around blues and greens, but she wasn't sure how true that actually was as she had yet to meet a bronze or gold. But he was magnificent. She watched as the brown seemed to connect so well with Helitet and wondered if she should continue. G'tet's comment caught her attention though.

Laughing, Kyrri turned back to the riders. "I take it he likes her."

Helitet and Xierth did seem to connect, the two of them holding some sort of silent communication as G'tet shrugged at Kyrri's statement.
"I suppose you can say that, but Xierth has never much disliked anything before. It's like a kinship I suppose, seeing as how they're both really quiet beings."

Xierth had lifted his head now and Helitet had a grin across her features as she turned back to Kyrri. The silent girl went back, grabbing the other candidate's wrist and dragging poor Kyrri right up to Xierth. The Brown blinked once before lowering his head again, and Helitet placed Kyrri's hand right upon the tip of his snout then.

Swirling eyes watched the candidate, his breath hot upon the sides of her hand. It wasn't really a regal air about this Brown as much as it was a quiet and calm one. Watchful and silent.
Behind them, Heleth was conferring with her rider, and Cernt said something about needing to take care of something. The Greenrider was mounting his dragon and Heleth nodded a goodbye to the group and turned about, twisting about in a circle and then taking off in the air as she usually did.

G'tet watched them leave before turning his attention back to the two candidates and his dragon. Just... watching. He took note that there was a rather large Bronze curled up upon the cliffs nearby, seeming to watch them. Still, there wasn't any danger, though he barely recognized the large male.
Probably the a Timer's Bronze then.

A silent nod from Kyrri acknowledged G'tet's explanation. The girl supposed that if anyone knew Xierth, it would be him. That coupled with the fact that he was Helitet's brother and there could be little doubt he knew what he was talking about.

Kyrri stood there, watching the quiet pair for a few minutes more before Helitet turned and came back to her. She was about to ask her about just what she had been doing when Helitet grabbed her by the arm and proceeded to drag her up to the large head of Xierth. She squeaked a little in surprise, but she followed nonetheless. She didn't fight as Helitet placed her hand on the dragon's nose.

Amazement filled Kyrri's eyes as she stood there. Xierth's breath warmed her hand, and his whirling eyes fascinated her. This was definitely a wonderful experience. She was so absorbed in the moment that she barely noticed when Cernt and Heleth took their leave. It was the sound of her wingbeats as she gained altitude that shook her back to the moment. She nodded a polite thank you to Xierth and a light scratching before she turned, beaming, back to G'tet and Helitet.

"He is a wonderful dragon G'tet." Kyrri said, unable to hide her joy at having such luck as to have just met two riders ad their dragons. This was probably a normal thing in a weyr for all she knew, but she hadn't grown up in a weyr. She hadn't even grown up in a hold really. Everything she had been through over the past few days had been new to her.

G'tet looked up at the skies then, watching the darkening hues flicker and then back at the two candidates and his dragon.
Xierth was a patient one, merely just standing there, watching them all.

Still, it was getting late, and the Brownrider did not wish to be the cause of the two breaking curfew. He shook his head then, grunting, "Hel, why don't you and your friend go back in? I'm going to start going back to my Weyr anyways. I want to go and check on the clutch before I get back to my weyr anyways."
Helitet nodded, making some gestures with her hands. G'tet watched that, then shrugged, "I don't know. It's the Timer's Queen's clutch... and she came from between egg heavy. The clutch didn't exactly fare well because of that, I don't know why they did that, but they did, but I do hope what eggs we do have on the sands do come out well."
He shrugged then, "We'll see when time comes."

A brown gray eye fixed upon Kyrri then, an almost thoughtful expression across his features for a moment, "You know... you should ask her to teach you how she speaks."
Then, stepping forwards, he patted Kyrri upon the back and then walked right up to Xierth, the Brown shifting his weight and allowing his rider to climb atop his neck.

As much as Kyrri disliked the fact that the riders and their dragons had to leave, it was undeniable that darkness was coming upon them fast and if they didn't get back inside soon they would be caught breaking curfew. Kyrri may have been new to candidacy, but she did know that getting in enough trouble would cause her to lose her chance to stand at the hatching. That was the last thing she wanted.

She stood there, half-listening while G'tet explained to Helitet what he was planning on doing. What he said worried her a bit. There was something wrong with the clutch? Kyrri would admit that most of what she knew about the Timers and their origins was probably rumors. You did hear a lot of those when you did a lot of traveling. Whatever the issues were with the eggs, Kyrri did hope that they were alright. Not just because she was a candidate anymore, not after today. She would hate to see the little baby dragonets lose their lives because of something the Timers chose to do.

Their conversation was coming to an end it seemed, and Kyrri sighed deeply, fighting off a yawn at the same time. It was probably good that they were headed back in now. She gave one final pat to Xierth as she turned to Helitet to leave, but then G'tet spoke. He had a good point too. Kyrri laughed a little and nodded.
"That sounds like a great idea. You wouldn't mind teaching me sometime, would you Helitet?" Kyrri asked, flashing one final grateful look at G'tet before stepping up beside Helitet again and watching her brother mount his dragon.

"Goodbye G'tet, goodbye Xierth. It was a pleasure meeting you both."
