Her attention kept being diverted from the crowd to her food in front of her, brown eyes flickering to the entrance to the dining hall and kitchens and then back to her plate over and over again. The smell of klah in the air, thick with the mix of meat rolls that permeated the surroundings. Around them, little flitters belonging to riders were calling for food. Low murmurs of speech and conversation that lulled into the background noise. This sort of white noise was a sort of silence too, as she knew. Then with a shrug, just turned back completely to her food, taking a bite from her already cut up food. Her fingers wrapping about her mug, she stared into its content for a moment before taking a sip, leaning back into her seat. The candidate wasn't alone at the table, but it wasn't as much as an interaction as much as it was just two people sitting in the same place was all. The other was a rider, scars running across their arms as they stabbed into their food and ate like a feline or perhaps a dragon. They ate like a creature who expected their food to be stolen away at any given moment, and Helitet was rather caught off guard by the fact that the rider was still eating. For somebody as frail and small of a build as that rider, they certain did eat a lot. Still, both of them seemed to be waiting for somebody. Helitet noted the way the rider's eyes would dart over to the entrace as well every time somebody came in. Well, she supposed they had that in common then. |

Somehow, despite the fact that it was the dining hall she was looking for and she had been there several times already, Kyrri still managed to get lost. How she did this was a mystery even to herself. As far as she could tell, the candidate must have gone down a wrong tunnel somewhere without even realizing it. When it was taking longer than she felt it should have to get there and things stopped looking familiar altogether she realized she was going the wrong way. Hopefully Helitet wasn't waiting for her long. At last, Kyrri began to smell klah and meat rolls. This was definitely the right way. Picking up her pace a bit, she strode confidently into the hall and began looking for where she might find Helitet. Of course, being as short as she was, looking for someone wasn't exactly an easy task. This was a realization Kyrri came to after glancing around quickly in search of her friend. No, she just couldn't have it that easy today. With a sigh she began walking around the hall, glaning through gaps in crowds for any sign of Helitet. Thankfully she didn't have to go far before she saw a figure she recognized as her fellow candidate and set a course straight for her. Kyrri didn't notice the rider until she was practically on top of them. It didn't look like Helitet was particularly enjoying his company though. Smiling to them both, the girl hopped into a chair beside Helitet. "Morning Helitet." She said in greeting as she settled into the seat. Last night they had agreed to meet up here after Helitet's brother G'tet had suggested that Kyrri ask her to teach her her 'sign language'. |

Helitet noticed Kyrri before the other candidate had noticed her. There was a smile tugging upon her lips though as Kyrri made her way over here, nodding her head in a return to the greeting, making some gestures with her hands. The rider besides them tugged slightly upon their outfit, the shoulder knots upon their shoulder marking them as a Bluerider. Their attention darted back to the entrance again once more before they went back to eating, not that they had truly stopped in the first place. It rather confused Helitet how a single person could eat so much, but she didn't say anything about it, even if she could. Instead, she tapped upon the table, grinning at Kyrri. 'Take a seat' she meant. Then with a gesture at her own pretty much empty plate, she turned her head almost questioningly. 'Hungry?' was the question, still, it wasn't as if Helitet could make herself heard easily over this white noise in the dining hall. Besides them, there was a sudden stop to the Bluerider's eating. Their brown eyes was fixed upon the entrance now, a slight smile tugging upon their features. "You're late," their voice drawled out, and there could be no mistaking it now. She might have looked like a feminine boy, but she really was a female. The other rider slid into the chair, shaking their head. A Brownrider this time. They grunted, much in a way that Helitet would find G'tet doing, before stealing some of the Bluerider's food, "Can't help it. Got lost." |

At first, Kyrri had payed very little attention to the rider in near proximity. She had little reason to. The girl had waited a moment to be sure that the rider had little interest in her business as well, but it seemed pretty obvious that they were far more concerned with the food before them than the girls in front of them. Kyrri made little of it. They didn't look like they would be much of a disruption to the reason she had come down here in such a rush that she got lost on the way, unless of course their dragon-like appetite became annoying enough. Shrugging, Kyrri took a seat next to Helitet as she assumed her gestures had indicated. It was then that the thought occured to her. With the background noise in the dining hall, the little that Helitet actually said would be effectively gobbled up before it reached her ears. She supposed she could try and read her friend's lips, but that wasn't exactly something she had practiced. Then again, maybe this would help. It would force her to concentrate more on what Helitet was doing rather than relying so much on the sounds she was making. This thought made her smile a bit to herself. The girl shook her head. No, she would wait to grab something to eat. She wasn't that hungry right now anyway. She was about to say something when the rider caught her attention again. They had stopped eating and were now staring in the direction of the entrance. Their dragon was a blue, from the looks of it, but what really caught Kyrri off guard was their voice. All this time, she had taken them for a man. The voice that emerged was definitely female. Kyrri blushed as she realized that she had been wrong, and she was only too glad that she hadn't said anything that could have ultimately been offensive. She shot a questioning look sideways to Helitet as they were joined by yet another rider, wondering just what Helitet thought they should do. |

Helitet smiled at Kyrri, taking note of the other riders's appearance as well. That short hair, brown eyes that... were glazed over quite a bit. Her expression faltered for a moment then as she watched the Brownrider take a seat. Almost carefully. Taking note of the way their hand traced over the top of the chair before they settled into it. The way the Brownrider didn't seem to look at the Bluerider in the eye when they spoke. The Bluerider was speaking now, her voice soft then, "Still getting lost? Then again... it's only been a few months..." She didn't seem bothered by the fact that the Brownrider was taking her food. In fact, she shoved her plate closer to her companion, the shifting of her chair indicating that she was going to get more. The Brownrider seemed to have noticed as well, tugging upon the Bluerider's sleeve, "Klah?" The Bluerider laughed slightly, "Sure." Helitet watched all this for a moment before her brows furrowed and she turned back to Kyrri. She shook her head then, tapping her mug and making a gesture. 'Want to get started?' |

Something about these two riders Kyrri found rather... unfavorable. It was an odd feeling, because growing up she had always adored dragonriders and the beasts that chose them. She had never once thought about the fact that they were people just the same as anyone else, only with a rather large dragon companion along with them. There were bound to be riders she wouldn't like... As well as riders that wouldn't like her. That aside, Helitet seemed to be paying attention to the pair, so Kyrri shot them another look. So the brownrider had gotten lost on his way down here as well. That made her feel a little less stupid about getting lost herself. She sighed in relief. It wasn't just a 'new to a weyr' thing. She decided to go for it then. Leaning slightly across the table, Kyrri addressed the brownrider. "Lost huh? So I guess I'm not the only one then." The candidate looked him over quickly before returning to her former position in the chair. It seemed that Helitet was ready to get started. Smiling, Kyrri nodded. "Sure, let's go for it." |

Helitet seemed a little confused now. Quite distracted by the two riders. There was a little furrowing of her brows as she stared, quite literally stared at the two of them after Kyrri had spoke. It wasn't just the Brownrider either now though. It was the Bluerider as well. As if she had just taken notice of their knots, her eyebrows then shot up to her hairline, a somewhat confused expression across her features. She tapped upon the table, as if trying to make sense of it all. Unless that Bluerider was extremely feminine... she was a female... and she had yet to actually see a female Bluerider before. Oh yes, she's heard the tales of the Timers, but then, there were a lot of tales around both Weyrs and Holds. And the details on Weyr business in Hold talk was always sketchy... So here now, was a female Bluerider in front of them, and Helitet was wondering if it was true at all. The Brownrider seemed to have heard Kyrri however, turning their head slightly. Not to look at the candidate, Hetlitet noticed, but as if to turn their ear over. There was that smirk like grin across their features that reminded Helitet of a content Bronze basking under Rukbat after a good meal. "I'm always getting lost," they drawled out almost lazily, eating form the Bluerider's plate, "It comes with the entire territory of this Weyr being completely new and all that." The Bluerider was back again, putting down another plate full of food and handing the mug of klah to the Brownrider who took it with a nod. She seemed weary of the two candidates however, staying silent as she took her seat, edging closer to the Brownrider and away from the other two. It wasn't that she was... unfriendly, she just had trouble meeting new people, and the Brownrider seemed to understand, placing their hand upon her shoulder, though it seemed as though they were just blinding reaching out there for a moment. "I would be V'tor, by the way, my Brown outside is Areth. This here is Lihana, her Jevenoth is a Blue that you'll come to recognize quite easily." "They're both quite easily recognized," Lihana added almost softly, almost shyly as she ducked her head down and started to eat again. V'tor shrugged, "Li isn't good with new people I'm afraid. She never was, and the fact that people don't trust her from being a female Bluerider doesn't help..." The Brownrider paused then, a slight narrowing of their eyes and, Helitet noticed, a slight baring of their teeth, a defensive sort of stance. "You're not one of them now are you?" Helitet shook her head, only to notice that the Brownrider didn't respond to that one before tugging on Kyrri's sleeve as a request for her fellow candidate to answer. She was sure that the Browrider was ignoring her... just that... She took notice then that the Bluerider had leaned over, muttering to the Brownrider, who ran their thump over the top of their cup before drinking from it. The way the Brownrider stabbed their fork into their food and missed before actually getting to it. She frowned slightly then, but was somehow relieved by the fact that she wasn't the only one here in the Weyr. The candidate gave another tug upon Kyrri's sleeve then, lifting her hand up to her eyes and waving two fingers in front of them. There was a sort of questioning glance at Lihana who seemed to tense up, but nodded, "Yes... she's blind." V'tor laughed, "Well... It's not as if I'm hiding that fact." And there was two more rather surprising facts. Not only was she blind, she was a female Brownrider... and Helitet didn't know how to respond to that one. A female Bluerider was confusing enough as is. |

Kyrri waited a moment for Helitet to get started, but that was all it took for her to realize something strage was going down. She watched Helitet for a moment more as her friend stared at the riders. She must have missed something... But what? Kyrri was usually great at catching little details in things. Apparently her move to the weyr had thrown this off a bit, as she had noticed that she was missing things a lot these days. Sure, the fact that this bluerider had turned out to be a woman rather than a man as she had assumed had been surprising. Afterall, she had grown up knowing that only golds, sometimes greens, would impress to a woman, unless of course you were talking firelizards but that was a different story. From what she heard about these 'Timers' as they were called, well, they had changed the rules. Granted, she grew up a trader so what she heard was probably mostly composed of rumors and theories. She had heard that wherever they had come from, male dragons could impress to women. Apparently it was true. Now, Kyrri wasn't really bothered by this as much as it seemed Helitet was. A dragon had a reason for choosing the person it did, she supposed, but maybe having more to do with a weyr than she did made this a stranger thing. Of course, Kyrri personally wasn't very fond of the idea of being the rider of a male dragon herself, mainly because of the whole 'mating flight' thing. She didn't plan on having a girlfriend if she had anything to say about it. Still, she would never object if she was lucky enough to be chosen by any dragon. The candidate's gaze was still aimed sideways at her friend when the brownrider did respond. She nodded, looking back. "I suppose you'd be right there." A small laugh lifted her features into a small smile before she turned her eyes onto the returning bluerider. This time, Kyrri happened to catch the way the brownrider moved, almost looking as if he was unsure of the other rider's location. Odd. Shaking the thought from her mind, she returned a nod to the brownrider. "Pleased to meet you V'tor, and you Lihana." What V'tor did next startled Kyrri somewhat. She hadn't expected the rider to grab her sleeve. She struggled to respond for a moment before words actually came to her. "No, of course not. You don't have to worry about me. I'm fresh into any weyr as it is. This is all pretty new to me, whether it is to anyone else or not." She shrugged, only to find her sleeve caught yet again, this time by Helitet. She turned just in time to catch her motion and hear Lihana's comment. So V'tor was blind... and Lihana wasn't fond of new people. And both were female riders of male dragons. This was shaping up to be quite some day. Kyrri chewed her lip a moment in thought, trying to decide what to do next. Then it struck her. Did V'tor even know Helitet was there? Looking sideways at her friend before continuing, Kyrri leaned up against the table once again. "I'm Kyrri, by the way. I'm a candidate here, and this is my friend Helitet." the girl tapped on the table in front of Helitet, hoping the noise was enough to give the brownrider some idea where she was indicating. |

V'tor was nodding then, though she still seemed rather weary of the two candidates. Perhaps because of her companion more than anything else. She knew that Lihana didn't mean to and the Bluerider really couldn't help herself. It was just that Li was so utterly shy that she was paranoid, or at least, acted that way. One couldn't exactly blame her once they knew the Bluerider's past. "Pleasure to meet you... two then?" It seemed that V'tor had a vague idea that Helitet was there, though didn't seem sure that the nearly mute girl was actually part of this... 'conversation' or not. Still, as Helitet seemed to squeak, a noise that was lost into the crowd, V'tor seem to catch it nonetheless, nodding her head in the candidate's general direction. Lihana meanwhile, had actually finished eating finally, and was tucking herself into V'tor's side, looking as if she was afraid the person nearby was going to pull a knife out on her. They were all strangers after all, and Lihana was just like that... scared of people she didn't already know. Helitet watched that, and tried to remember why it seemed so familiar, only to shake it off when she couldn't figure it out. Instead, she muttered something in subvocalization and made a gesture to Kyrri with her hands. Then as if remembering that the other candidate didn't understand what she was doing just yet, pointed to the entrance of the dining hall. There was a polite nod towards Lihana who stared wearily at her and V'tor who couldn't see it anyways, making it clear that Helitet was asking to move to a different location. Not that anything was wrong with this one, but it seemed that this place was getting them into all sorts of distractions from the reason they were here in the first place. |

Kyrri nodded then, without realizing that V'tor couldn't see her at first, then managing to catch herself. "Yes, just us two here." The candidate assured brightly. Kyrri was beginning to feel that if this conversation were to go on much longer she might become somewhat of a relay between the blind brownrider and the quiet candidate. Watching the pair of riders almost thoughtfully for a moment, Kyrri could see what V'tor had meant about Lihana. The girl wasn't really used to people she had just met being 'afraid' of her. Due to her diminutive size most people, especially those near her own age, usually jumped right on her with insults. Because trying to make a small girl feel bad aout herself must just be soooo satisfying. she thought. It was for that reason that she had always found so much joy in their disappointment when this plan of theirs never worked and she turned it back around on them. Always so insecure... That, or they would ignore her altogether. Either way, it was rare that someone's first reaction to her was one like Lihana's. For this reason, she wasn't quite sure how to react. She didn't really have any practice in trying to convince someone that she meant no harm. Out of the corner of her eye, Kyrri caught Helitet's gestures. Confused, she turned to her friend to ask her if she could clarify, only to see her pointing in the direction of the entrance. Then a nod, and Kyrri got her meaning. She wanted to go someplace else. She couldn't really blame her. They had been here long enough and had managed to get nothing done because they were talking to Lihana and V'tor. In all honesty, Kyrri wouldn't mind moving herself. She had liked G'tet's suggestion the night before, and as ok as these riders had been, they were making it a bit hard. She looked questioningly at Helitet as if to say 'are you sure?' before looking back at the riders to see if they had anything to say to their little exchange, or if they had even noticed it at all. |

Kyrri wasn't the only person small for her age it seemed. As V'tor sat back into her seat, tugging upon Lihana's sleeve, the Brownrider proved to be quite short as well. Shorter than her companion anyways, who was a tad bit more than under average in terms of structure. Neither riders seemed to have taken notice of Helitet's movements or requests. Or at least, neither of them had any response to it at all. Lihana seemed to have noticed, her brown eyes fixed upon Helitet almost wearily. The frail looking Bluerider appearing as though she was about to jump at any given moment now. The near mute candidate merely shook her head as if amused, glancing once more back to the entrance of the dining hall. It wasn't as if she was really trying to get away from the two riders. Or that she didn't like them, in fact, they seemed like nice people, or something like that. Both of them had a sort of silence to them that Helitet could get used to somehow. The Brownrider's silence was the sort that came with a sort of self-assurance of who they were. It was the sort of settled quiet that showed. The Bluerider had the silence of a feline ready bolt at any given moment however. But there was also that almost comfortable silence between the two of them, so neither one of them must have been that bad. Besides, there was also something verily familiar about the way Lihana was. Almost as if the two of them were similar in some way or another. The candidate stared at the Bluerider for another moment before sliding her chair back. The sound seemed to have alerted the Brownrider though, who nodded at her as if in a farewell. The Bluerider directed her gaze away, now looking at somebody else passing by their table, but Helitet got her goodbye too. The near mute girl tugged upon Kyrri’s sleeve, pulling her gently towards the entrance as well. A little bit impatient perhaps, but it seemed as if they were getting nowhere at this rate really. |

As Kyrri had come to talk to the riders, she had come to find that she didn't really dislike them as she had thought originally. First impressions could be decieving, she knew that. In fact, she almost felt a little bad for them. They weren't from here, not even from this world as she understood it. They were lost here in a world far different from theirs, yet so similar. The candidate sighed a little. In a way, the same could be said of her. She wasn't from the weyr, not even close. Everything was so new to her. Maybe she could make allies of these riders. Afterall, she hadn't found a real reason not to trust them. Looking over at Helitet, it seemed her friend was ready to go. She gave one last smile to the riders, a little, unsre, weary thing of an expression. "I'm not sure when the eggs will hatch." She said finally. "Like I said, I'm not from a weyr. But I... I do hope that both of you will be there to cheer me on." She nodded then, waving a goodbye to them both as Helitet grabbed her sleeve. Kyrri jumped up from her seat immediately then and fell in line behind Helitet. The small girl bobbed excitedly after her friend excitedly. It wasn't that she had ended up disliking the riders, ut she was definitely ready to get started with the real reason she had come down here. |

V'tor laughed slightly, nodding at Kyrri's parting words. Of course she would be there, it would be quite an interesting thing to witness after all. Lihana stared at Kyrri though, as if the candidate was something she had never seen before. The Bluerider seemed to shake herself out of it though, scooting closer to V'tor as somebody else took a seat on her other side. Of course, all this was now just background action as Hetliet tugged her friend out of the dining hall and into the tunnels beyond. There, she stopped for a while, tilting her head slightly like a curious canine pup. She ran her hand across the walls then, before making a sign with her hands. It was the same one as before, the one that she had used to ask Kyrri if she was ready to start or not. So that was what it was. |

Kyrri had taken off after Helitet rather quickly and had happened to miss the look Lihana had for her. Whatever the bluerider had meant by it would be lost on her forever now. She skittered along closely behind Helitet, making sure not to fall too far behind. The girl knew that if she got separated now she would have quite a time figuring out just where Helitet had gotten to. She hadn't happened to catch anything indicating specifically where they were going. They continued together out of the dining hall and into the tunnels beyond. That was where Helitet stopped. Kyrri looked around then, surveying where they were. There was nothing particularly special about this tunnel it seemed. Maybe Helitet was just looking for someplace quiet. Distracted, Kyrri almost missed Helitet's gesture. It was the same as the one she had made in the dining hall before they had started talking with the riders. Kyrri nodded confidently. Yes, she was ready to finally begin their little lesson. If this went well, the candidate was looking forward to longer, more in-depth conversations with Helitet and being able to understand her friend more. |
