That assurance from Lilly made N'kar chuckle. So she was a little more forward about it then. N'kar had a way of standing there awkwardly, trying to be polite by not leaving. Sure, he would try and come up with an excuse good enough to leave half of the time, but that didn't always work. A thought struck him then. "When you say you would have run off, why didn't you in the tunnels when B'net and I showed up? I can't imagine two men appearing unexpectedly out of a tunnel was exactly the kind of thing you would want to stick around for. I mean, I was thinking of running at first, but Rhiunth kind of made me stay." At that, N'kar shot a fake glare his dragon's way before continuing. "But yeah, you didn't run off there. And yes, I do find your nervous rambling quite interesting." He laughed. N'kar had to laugh when Lilly said it was safe. It wasn't that he didn't agree, because he did. He thought the tunnels were just as safe as the rest of the weyr in fact. The thing that he found funny about it was the fact that he had almost had a knife pulled on himself down there not that long ago. "No, I'd love to go, unless you don't want me to. You never know what you might run into down there." He almost missed the last part, as Lilly had said it rather quietly. He looked over at her grinning, almost pretending not to have heard her, though she could probably see by his expression that he had. N'kar liked the idea of meeting her brother for some reason, maybe because if he enjoyed Lilly, he might get along with her brother as well, though not in exactly the same way. "I think that would be great, but I don't think you really need to be more like him. You might not have found me quite as interesting if you were." Looking her over and thinking about what had happened so far on this day, N'kar couldn't really see Lilly as being louder and more open. He nodded, interested in her offer to take him to meet her brother and show him some 'interesting things'. It was pretty obvious that she liked her home, so it would probably turn out to be an interesting trip. That, and N'kar had to admit he liked the idea of spending time with Lilly, especially if she was excited about it to. "Yeah, respect I guess. Though that's not always a good thing, depending on who you are I think." The joke was funny to N'kar, at least the way Lilly had said it. It made sense that there would be a reason for a name like 'fresh'water. He shuddered at the thought of a mouthful of saltwater. Not that he had ever tasted saltwater, but... "Somehow I don't think salt and water would go that great together. And the way you say that doesn't make it seem much better." He laughed. Listening intently to Lilly's description of rip currents, N'kar stared out into space trying to imagine it. He was a little lost on it though, not quite sure how something that you couldn't see could do so much damage. It was possible, he supposed, but the lake back at his old weyr had been so calm almost all the time. He couldn't see it being so dangerous. But then again, N'kar hadn't needed Lilly to verify how vastly different lakes and oceans were. He supposed that just added to the list. "No, I guess not. You know more about it than I do, and I' really rather not lose Rhiunth's great hide. Or my own for that matter." He joked. He eyes the sweater curiously, wondering just why she prefered baggy clothing but deciding against asking her. "It's a very nice blue, your mom must be good at making things like that." He commented, nodding. He had noticed at this point how much Lilly seemed to smile, and he couldn't help but hope at least part of that was his fault. "I've had... a few friends. Two close ones, but there were a few other candidates I knew a while ago. But I can definitely say that they weren't as much fun to talk to. They rather liked teasing me, honestly." He laughed. It was true, if Lilly hadn't jumped back in when she had, N'kar probably would have told her not to be sorry about it. He shook his head. "Well, I suppose more time it'll have to be then." Rhiunth lowered himself down to lay beside Sirth, watching her as she thought. He repeated her sigh, quite content himself with the situation. 'Yes, I can't say I blame you. This idea seems the best to me as well. I'm glad to hear they work.' Calm laughter showed in his eyes, though he really wondered if she meant it, or if she was just saying it because she liked laying beneath his wing. He didn't care either way, but he didn't put the latter past her. 'Yes, I do like it, you don't have to pout at me.' If Rhiunth could have read Sirth's mind, he probably would have been quite flattered. The fact was though that that was just not the way things worked. He was perfectly happy with things the way they were though, or at least the way they seemed. His expression was a warm one, as was his tone. Different from the flirting he had been doing earlier, yet still the same as he was still the same dragon. 'Then don't do anything, Sirth. You like that, don't you? You want me to chase you when the time comes?' The brown shifted his weight a bit, but remained where he was. 'I'm not going anywhere unless you want me to, but right now it doesn't seem you do.' Rhiunth leaned into Sirth as she leaned back, laying his head beside her. 'Hmm... What DO I intend to do now that I have half of you?' Rhiunth lay there, thinking it over for a moment. 'Well, I could hold you captive until you give up your squirming and then demand your foot back before I release you. Or...' Rhiunth thought about it, pulling Sirth in just a little closer. 'Well, dear Sirth, I'm afraid I don't know what I should do with you. I'm not as good at coming up with ideas as you are.' The brown's face fell a little as he admitted it. 'Maybe I shall carry you around with me wherever I go so that you can give me more ideas when I need them? How does that sound for a plan?' N'kar sputtered a moment more before regaining his composure. "I'm-I'm fine, yeah. Don't worry about me. Just... Just something Rhiunth said is all." He purposfully left out exactly what Rhiunth had said. If Sirth told Lilly, that was a different story. N'kar wasn't really sure he should tell her what Rhiunth's plan was though. At least, not yet. He was a little embarrassed to look at Lilly now, but he finally forced himself to look over as she spoke. It seemed she was about as comfortable with all of this as he was, and in his mind he couldn't help but chuckle lightly. It was almost silly. So far, it seemed they were both thinking the same thing about all of this, and yet neither one of them could seem to get the courage to say it. Their dragons obviously weren't having as hard a time, a thought that had only been confirmed by what Rhiunth had said moments before. He waited as Lilly continued, only to smile, relieved somewhat, and nod. "I'm glad to hear that, because somehow I don't think they were going to give us much of a choice." He said, gesturing over to the dragons. He was even glader when Lilly followed his lead and moved closer to him. A little nervous laughter then. At least he wasn't mistaking what she was saying. That would have been terrible. N'kar eased down a little bit then, slowly feeling less and less awkward as the conversation went on. He smiled at Lilly, glad she was still there. |

(again i will check at lunch >^.^<~~) Lilly thought about how to answer, she had really stayed because there was no reason to leave, she wasn’t scared of the situation, and she had said PROBABLY, so why did she stay? Maybe it was just a nagging in her mind that she hadn’t realized, “You know, I’m not really sure, you two didn’t really, make me scared, I felt somewhat safe once I knew you were human, I did say probably, run away as well, so I don’t know, I’m glad I didn’t though, and I’m glad Rhi made you stay, I wouldn’t of gotten to meet him if he hadn’t made you stay”, she grinned up at N’kar playfully, like some child that had just bested a peer, she looked over at the brown, and quickly looked back as he seemed to be getting very ‘comfortable’ with her dragon, oh dear. Lilly looked at N’kar with a raised eyebrown, “yes, I want you to go with me because I don’t want you there…” she left off with a playful confused look, her face turned serious, “no, I’d want you to go with me,” she blushed slightly continuing, “when you, grabbed me you reminded me of my brother helping me, made me feel safe, and despite how much I try to deny it out loud but I feel safe with you now,and I like feeling safe.” She had pretended that his pretending not to hear her had not been heard, but she figured he had heard, and that’s what she wanted despite how much that part of her brain had made her not want to say it out loud. Would she be better off being like her brother? It got her to thinking after N’kar had mentioned it, she would obviously be louder, and more outgoing, but then again, she would be without Sirth most likely, and then she would be without Rhiunth, and then she wouldn’t be here with N’kar, “hmm possibly, but, now that I think of it, there are so many things I have and like that I wouldn’t have probably if I were more outgoing like him,” she smiled over to N’kar again, laying her head upon he knees tucked against her, looking at him sideways. Slat plus water didn’t seem like a good idea for a lot of things, it made your skin all dry and nasty, and it made the air smell, and it tasted awful. At least the fish didn’t tend to hold salt water on them; it really would be bad if they had a really salty taste. She nodded happy to hear that N’kar didn’t want to lose Rhiunth, which wasn’t surprising but it’s always nice to hear, “the good thing is, with Rhiunth size, he could probably out swim the riptides, Sirth could too, they have a lot more propulsion then a boat and they have better control, but, just to make sure I don’t lose you, I think I’ll go with you, and show you the safe spots to go swimming, or fishing, or whatever you wanted to do at the ocean,” she said grinning, not really realizing that she had said ‘i don’t lose you’, she was too far in thought of other things to realize it. Nodding in answer to N’kar question, “yeah, mum spends a lot of time inside, she has a condition where if she’s outside in the sun too long she will burn, so she tends to keep indoors, which limits what she can do, tailoring is just one of the things she can do, she’s a great cook and I’ve heard from many passersby that’s she’s a great host, we used to get a lot of people who would rent the extra room at our house". Listening to his history with his friends, she had to wonder if he had counted her as a friend or if she would be the third, she had counted him as the second friend, “So, do I get to be number three friend?” she said quietly while her head still lay on her knees looking over at him. Lilly nodded, time was a great thing, and it healed wounds, expanded relationships, and infused character. “I-I assume you don’t m-mind waiting then?” It felt good having someone so close to her, and being covered by their wing, it was something new she had wanted to do before and now she had the chance, she was going to exploit it for every minute she could, ‘yes!, even if someone suggested something that might be better, I would tell them they were wrong!’, she chuckled quietly, trying to get her to change her mind now would be all but impossible, something amazing would have to be brought up for her to maybe think it was better. ‘I’m glad, it wouldn’t be as fun if I had to pout for it, I don’t think I could wish to sit here all day with you if you didn’t want to either, id want you to enjoy it as much as I am. She was filled with warmth and it wasn’t coming all coming from Rhiunth wing, she finally realized how Lilly felt sometimes, she could feel her feelings, but not the stomach butterfly thing, as she was having a mild case of it now as well. She liked the idea of doing nothing though, despite her rather bounciness, she could convince herself not to move, especially if she were like this ‘I think I can do nothing, especially with you here like this. Of all the dragons I’ve met, you’re the only dragon I’ve even thought about rising for, it’s terribly hard to find such a handsome, amazing, kind, and lovable dragon, that also has a rider that mine cares for, I’m concerned she will get confused at her feelings though, and it'll probably take a while, but I’m sure she will figure it out eventually, make sure yours figures her out, because, I don’t think she will find someone quiet as understanding for a very long time, if ever. That is, if yours wants to figure her out…’ Sirth lay there, eyes closed and quietly talking, she wasn’t going to sleep, she was just being lazy for a change. Sirth giggled helplessly as Rhiunth tried to come up with something, she thought it was a good start, maybe she should help him out, she thought a moment, and because it seemed he was little displeased with his effort, she would help him out. She reached up lifting his head back up with her own, ‘hey now none of that, I can just give you some ideas and we can pretend that it was, kirk, or kee, that told you, she looked into the browns eyes as she lay there him atop her, wishing she could smile to him. ‘Wouldn’t you rather keep all of me instead of just my foot? You might find me more interesting if you have all of me, my foot has a very… limited enjoyment factor. You COULD carry me around, but, I could just walk beside you, and give you ideas, it would probably work out better for both of us,” Lilly looked at N’kar a little confused wondering what Rhiunth said, maybe it was something about how Rhiunth and Sirth were getting along, or, bah she didn’t know. After Lilly had sat down next to N’kar she had resumed her knees raised up close to her chest and held herself upright holding her hands over her knees position, still (amazingly) smiling. She took a second to look away from N’kar, and glanced over at their dragons, and yet, surprising herself, Lilly felt good, oddly, she didn’t know why but it felt good seeing Sirth being covered by Rhiunth, she knew that Sirth would be safe with him, and being safe as we know is something Lilly likes. “Yeah, I’m … glad, Sirth needs a good d-dragon, and I g-get the feeling, Rhi is th-the best she would … find….” She paused at the end of sentence, turning her view over to N’kar to see his reaction to her statement. As Lilly sat beside N’kar, she tried to keep her gaze more or less toward him, she realized it wasn’t really normal for her, but it didn’t feel wrong, or embarrassing so she continued to do so, it also helped that he was smiling at her also. She was curious to whether or not she should grab a hold to his arm, she didn’t feel that she shouldn’t but she was also a little scared to N’kars reaction, but then again she would get that safe feeling again, the internal conflict was hard to beat, she decided she would leave it this time, despite how much she wanted to , she wasn’t sure it would bring a positive reaction, and she didn’t really know how to figure out what kind of reaction she would get, and that was really her primary reasoning behind why she didn’t. "Well that's a surprise to me." N'kar laughed. In all honesty, he had almost scared himself down there when he had made all that noise falling over. If he had been in Lilly's position, he probably wouldn't have hung around all that long. He gave her a lot of credit for sticking around as long as she had, especially once it had gotten as tense as it had. But, then again, now he was kind of glad she had. If she had left when he had interrupted, there was very little chance they would have ended up where they were now, unless somehow Sirth and Rhiunth had met some other way, as would have probably been the most likely scenario. "You know, looking back on it now, I wasn't really that glad to stay then, but I'm definitely happy I did now." He smiled fondly at Lilly. He shrugged, a look of innocence on his face. "Well, I can't hear what you're thinking. You could have just been saying that." He was only playing, of course. He had been pretty sure that she would have liked him to go along with her the next time she went down there. And he wanted to, too. In fact, he might even have insisted he go along, for protection he would say, if she had objected. Was being like her brother a good thing? N'kar knew she loved her brother, so he figured that was good at least. At least she didn't mind being around him. And she felt safe, too. That sounded like a good thing, especially since Lilly, like he himself, didn't seem to make friends as quickly as some others. He chuckled. "I'm pretty sure that's a good thing, right?" He leaned over and bumped into her playfully, showing he wasn't really serious about being unsure of what she had said. He tried to picture Lilly being more outgoing as well, and found a hard time of it. He had a few ideas of what she meant by things she wouldn't want to lose by being more like her brother, but he didn't list any. "And to be honest, I don't think we would have gotten along so well if you were more like him." A pause. "Well, I don't know. Youmight have tried, but I probably would have been a lot more uncomfortable and I wouldn't have blamed you if you wouldn't have tried too hard with a person who didn't want to say much." He laughed. N'kar glanced over at Rhiunth as the brown went about being lazy with his new found companion it seemed. As a brown dragon, Rhiunth was a pretty good size. Granted, N'kar had no idea just how powerful these rip currents Lilly had described were, but he still thought the dragon could probably fend for himself in such a thing. The rider, though, probably not so much. He smiled to himself, honestly glad that Lilly had said that she wanted to go to make sure he was safe. It seemed a bit silly in idea at least, that she would be looking out for him. He was bigger than her, but she did know more about it than he did. Without her, he probably wouldn't fend well. That, and it felt good to know she was worried about him, for whatever reason. He had heard her say she didn't want to lose him, afterall. He nodded, still smiling. "I would like that Lilly. I'd hate to take such a trip, well, alone first of all, but even more so if I never made it back because I didn't know what I was doing." N'kar laughed, nodding. That made sense. If Lilly's mother couldn't spend much time outside she probably would be pretty good at whatever she could do without leaving a building. "Tailoring is a valuable skill." He said in agreement. "As are cooking, and hosting. She sounds like a wonderful person." N'kar's thoughts wandered back to his mother then. She had died too, of course, but he wasn't going to say that outright. "My mother was a healer. She would spend a lot of time in the infirmary, especially when it was busy in there." He explained. He had vague memories of sitting in corners watching her run about to the different cots helping out whoever she could. "But she did love the outdoors. Maybe that's where I got it from." He shrugged. It was possible, wasn't it? He nodded. "Yes, I suppose you would be the third... Though to be honest, the other two I'm talking about were more acquaintances than good friends I guess... They were about as good as I had back then though." N'kar paused a moment, then looked over at Lilly. "So how about you count as one?" He laughed then, shaking his head. "No, not at all. If we've gotten this far in this small amount of time, I don't mind waiting at all." Rhiunth laughed happily, then lifted his head to look around a moment before laying it down again. 'Well I don't see anyone here, and I would hardly think they could come up with anything better to use this oversized things for. Chances are they WOULD be wrong!' The brown stretched his wing a little further over Sirth. He was obviously enjoying it as much as she was. 'Awww, I wouldn't want to ruin your fun, Sirth. I love this, and I'm glad you want to sit here all day.' Rhiunth was a little surprised by Sirth's confession, but he was completely flattered by it. Never before had another dragon told him what Sirth just had. It was wonderful, really. He was more than glad that she had said that. 'Sirth, you are by far the kindest, most beautiful, cleverest, dragon I have had the pleasure to meet, and I am very glad that you think so much of me.' The brown lay there in silence a moment, thinking it all over. Sure, he had participated in flights before, but he had never really done it because he genuinely wanted to be the one to catch the dragon rising. With Sirth though, well that was different. He would love nothing more than to chase Sirth, and he would try his hardest to make sure she knew it. He would do everything he could to catch her. 'Don't worry about Mine. He won't say it yet, but he feels the same. I'm sure that by the time Yours is ready, he will admit it too. And I do hope I won't have to convince him too much. I have never found a rider I felt was so good for him as Yours. I'm glad that I did.' Rhiunth nosed Sirth yet again, but let himself stay there this time rather than pulling away. Rhiunth lit up again with Sirth's suggestion. 'I guess that works... I do like your ideas better.' He looked happily back into Sirth's eyes, completely content. 'Yes, yes I would prefer to keep all of you. All of you is far more entertaining than just your foot. And if you walk with me, that WOULD be easier than dragging you... But unfortunately I think Yours might want you back eventually.' The thought of Lilly chasing the pair around demanding Sirth back almost made the brown laugh. N'kar couldn't help but beam proudly at what Lilly had said about Rhiunth. From what he had heard from the brown, he knew Rhiunth wouldn't let a thing happen to Sirth as long as they were together. Or Lilly, really. Even if N'kar wouldn't say it, Rhiunth knew his rider. He cared about Lilly, and Rhiunth would probably come to her rescue if ever he had to. He leaned back, glancing between the dragons and Lilly. What did she mean by the best Sirth would find though? Was that because of the way the dragons were, or because of the riders? It was probably both, now that he thought about it. He nodded slowly, smiling at Lilly. "I've never seen Rhiunth so attached to another dragon before. I can't say I disagree with his choice though." Fearing he'd worded that wrong, N'kar looked back at the dragons quickly. After a moment he fought it off enough to look back, looking a little embarrassed. He couldn't really help it though. That's what he was thinking, and at least he was working up enough to say some of it. He chuckled a little, uncnciously sliding his hand a little closer to Lilly. If he had realized it, he probably would have stopped himself for fear of scaring Lilly off. Though did he really have to worry about that at this point? Nothing he had said so far had done that. Maybe he really should stop worrying so much and actually say some of the things he was thinking. |

Well she couldn’t deny it either, when both of the male riders first appeared she wasn’t overly excited that she had been found, in fact at the point she would have preferred that she be left alone, but she couldn’t ask them to leave, it was rude, and she was glad she didn’t. “I’m glad you stayed too… because if you hadn’t, Sirth wouldn’t have gotten Rhiunth to play with, and I would probably still be the loner of the Weyr.” She smiled back at N’kar, and a question popped into her mind, “what was your name before you impressed?” “At times I'm glad you can’t hear what I’m thinking, sometimes… I wish I couldn’t hear what I’m thinking, I embarrass myself …” she chuckled lightly joking, “on that thought, I’m glad I can’t hear what people are thinking, I would end up walking around looking like a tomatoes my whole life I’m sure,” she giggled at the thought of being beet red the whole time. If she could of read N’kars mind, she would of about glomped N’kar, she wasn’t someone who NEEDED protection, but she always felt so much better when there was with someone who was looking out for her, and on that note, so did Sirth, especially because she couldn’t get everywhere Lilly could. Lilly playfully scowled at N’kar as he bumped her, but she returned to her smiling again quickly, “yeah.” She wondered if it was just her shyness that was making N’kar stick around, or was there something else, they had a lot of other things that was in common but it really all was stuff like, they were both shy, and bother had over social over bouncy dragons, “So, what is that makes you want to talk to me?” she probably should of started blushing right there, but she didn't know what he was going to say. “hmm just like most children, I love my mum, she’s always been a very optimistic person too despite her lack of out doorsing, she always worried too much about me though, as I didn’t have many friends, but I could always take care of myself… she tried to teach me things indoors, but I always had a hard time picking it up, I can’t sow, I can’t really cook, and well, hosting, would be really bad for me, could you imagine,” she was so very glad she didn’t have to do that, her mother always took care of that. “Hmm healers are an incredible people, I’m always hesitant to go, but they always know what to do to make you feel better if you’re hurt or sick…” she had a lot of respect for the healers of Pern, they gave up a lot to make people feel better, and most times never asked for anything in return. Lilly smiled blushing slightly, she would be happy to be any number, as long as she was a friend, “I don’t mind what number I am, I’m more happy that I have you as a friend,” she paused a moment, “but I guess being number one isn't really a bad thing either,” she laughed lightly. “thanks…” she was glad he would wait, and the point that he would wait made her fill with happiness, more so then she was, she was starting to feel that she was going to find something about life, that was far different than the rest. Sirth coughed mentally ‘ excuse me bring that head back please, I wasn’t finished, and they WOULD be wrong, because I say so’ she chuckled to Rhiunth, humming happily. Sirth shifted closer if she could. She was glad that he was enjoying it as much as she was, it just meant that she could sit here, and be all warm, internal and externally. she still had that feeling of warmth flowing though her and she didn’t want it to go away still … surprising? Not so much. She just hummed happily, eyes closed, and ready to waste the day away. Sirth nuzzled against Rhiunth as he complimented her, filling more and more with that loving warmth you feel, ‘ thank you dear, that means a lot to me, and why would I not think so much of you, it is the truth, and so why would I tell you otherwise, I’m sure many others would tell you the same thing , nodding almost un-noticeably more for herself then Rhiunth, she was sure she was right at this, and being with him made her feel so amazing. Sirth giggled, ‘well if that’s the case maybe we can joke with them once they get together that it was their fault that we are how we are, it would be amusing, at least I think so, I could just imagine Lilly-mine, ‘you’re blaming your falling for Rhiunth on ME!’ le blush! Hehe’ Sirth tried to keep from laughing too much but her impression of Lilly was rather bad, oh well, she was enjoying making fun of the idea at least. All that was really missing from the two dragons staring at each other was a bowl of spaghetti and a awful singer with a accordion and a French accent (‘oooh this is the night what a beautiful niiighht’...). As Sirth snapped back into the reality that was actually her dream with less corniness, she poked her snout into his, internally grinning, she didn’t know what to say but, sometimes it was better to say nothing at all. ‘It’s ok you can keep me when she doesn’t need me, which is when yours is around or when she is sleeping, so, all the time that were together, you can have me ok?’ it sounded like a great idea to Sirth, it basically worked liked this, If A + B were together then C & D could be too, however if A were S and B didn’t mind the CD could be together, however if A needed C then B & D would have to come find them so that CD could be together again and B could help A, ahhhh mathematics… who needs A… simple really, oh how Sirths mind worked. ‘ it would be so funny watching my little-lilly-mine, following us around trying to get me to come with her, in reality I would, but maybe if its not something serious I will procrastinate, A LOT! She was glad that N’kar agreed with their dragons being … all … mushy? Whatever it was she was glad he felt the same, and if Rhiunth had never been so attached before, she figured he was just biding his time to find the right dragon, and if he felt he had found her, that was a good thing, for more than one reason too. “Hmm, so you agree with his choice of Sirth then? I wonder if its fate that she would end up being, uhh … well how she is right now with a brown and she knows I like browns so it makes me wonder if that’s why?” She managed to stop herself after her brief ramble of nervousness, it seemed if something romantically popped up in her mind the incredible nervousness became obvious, “if she rises I hope he catches her, I hate to think of what Rhiunth would think if he didn’t,” there was more to it than that though, she hoped Rhiunth would catch her because she felt that if there was anyone that she feel the less awkwardness with, it would be N’kar. She hadn't noticed the sloward moving of N'kars hand towards her iether, but something did, and it was sure N'kar hadnt spotted it. Edited by Goonba, May 29 2010, 06:07 PM.

“I wonder if Rhiunth knew what would happen if I stayed today.” N’kar said, half wondering out loud and half just talking. It wasn’t like this was the first tine his dragon had done this, but still. It was odd to think about when you looked back on it. “You wouldn’t have been the only one.” He joked. Funny the way two very independent people would happen to meet the way they had. Lilly’s question seemed to come out of nowhere. His name before he impressed? He was caught off guard and had to think a moment before he could respond. “Uhh, Nekarian. I was Nekarian, but no one’s called me that in turns.” Embarrassing yourself was something N’kar knew fairly well from when he was younger, especially when he had been a candidate. He had a way of saying incredibly stupid things back then without realizing it until it was too late. Unfortunately, that was when he was only just being broken down by the others. He hadn’t quite figured out how to think things through all the way before speaking. Thankfully that wasn’t the case now, but he still had his moments. He laughed at the thought of being able to hear other people’s thoughts. “Not only that, but being able to hear people’s thoughts could probably get you in trouble sometimes. And ruin surprises, too, and that would take the fun out of a lot of things!” Oh the problems hearing the thoughts of other humans could bring. Hearing dragons’ thoughts was a slightly different thing, since most dragons rarely did much without some influence from their riders. Just why did N’kar enjoy talking to Lilly so much? The rider thought about it a moment. It was kind of hard to place exactly but finally he came up with a good enough answer. “I think it’s because, for whatever reason, I can connect with you so much easier.” N’kar said, still thinking. “You’re a sweet girl, and I don’t know why, but I just enjoy it more than I do most people. That doesn’t sound completely creepy, does it?” The rider laughed. Knowing what he did about Lilly, N’kar could agree that she probably wouldn’t make a very good host. He nodded. “Yeah, I could imagine how that might go… no offense.” He laughed. It would probably be a lot like N’kar trying to entertain someone. Eventually he would just end up trying to find an excuse to leave, or have Rhiunth coach him through what to do. It would be a valuable skill to have, but it was one he lacked. “Incredible?” Yes, he supposed he understood where she was coming from. “They certainly do a lot for the population, that’s true.” Lilly blushed a lot, N’kar was starting to notice. It was kind of cute though. “I’m very glad to hear that, it means a lot to me.” He said, smiling. He was glad she considered him a friend. It was more than a lot of people did, he was sure. “And you’re welcome to be whatever number you want, if you’d rather not be one.” He nodded. Yes, he would wait. He had no problem with that at all. He liked Lilly, and if it meant he could make her less nervous with him, wait he would. Rhiunth laughed, looking back at Sirth apologetically. ’I’m sorry, you can have it back now, don’t worry.’ The dragon lowered his head again beside Sirth and wrapped his wing just a little tighter. Anyone on the outside of this conversation might mistake him for being a sleep, if not for the soft hum he added to Sirth’s. He had no intention of leaving if he could help it. The dragon hadn’t enjoyed sitting this still any other time in his life that he could remember. ’I’m glad.’ Rhiunth wasn’t used to hearing so many nice compliments aimed at him from another dragon. For a minute, the brown was almost as speechless as Sirth had been; only he didn’t really try to speak. She thought so much of him it seemed, and he really did think just as much of her. ’But you are the first, dear Sirth, that has ever told me such things.’ Sirth’s impression of her rider brought another laugh from Rhiunth. ’That does sound fun, but somehow I think they’d be quicker to blame us for their actions than we would blame them.’ Rhiunth took a minute to roll that idea through his mind a few times before responding to Sirth. ’Mmmm… I guess that could work for me. But what shall I do when I can’t have you?’ The brown returned her gesture then, letting the silence hang in the air. It was a pleasant silence, one to be enjoyed by both sides. At least, Rhiunth assumed Sirth was enjoying it. After all, he had no reason to think she didn’t. The image of poor Lilly chasing after Rhiunth and Sirth persisted, and the dragon couldn’t help but chuckle. He could just hear the conversation, with Lilly trying to get Sirth to leave and Sirth stalling. It all seemed quite comical. ’I would hate to keep you from Yours though. She is your bonded, after all. If she says she needs you, I could hardly stand in her way. She might not like me so much if I did, brown or not.’ He joked. Hearing Lilly repeat it back embarrassed N’kar a little more, though the reason behind that was beyond him. He had said it first, and Lilly didn’t seem to object. “I do. I hardly think he could have found a… a better pair to attach himself to than Sirth and yourself.” There, he was getting better at this! And it was only taking him… well, longer than Lilly it seemed, but he was getting there. Fate? If you thought about it, it would seem that way, wouldn’t it? “That could explain some of it, though I might find it hard to believe Sirth warmed up to Rhiunth so fast just because you like browns.” N’kar laughed. He hoped Rhiunth would catch Sirth when she did rise as well, though not quite for what Rhiunth might think if he didn’t. He did want Rhiunth to catch her though, more than he had wanted him to catch any other dragon he had ever chased. “Believe me; Rhiunth will do whatever he has to when she does rise. He’ll give her a chase like she’s never had before, I’m sure of it.” |

“it does make you wonder doesn’t it?” she had often wondered if her dragon knew things that she didn’t, obviously she did, but wondering more so if she knew if things were going to happen in the short future. Lilly giggled at N’kars joke, quickly bringing up a response “maybe we can be loners together?! Is that possible?” her idea was silly but she liked the idea, she didn’t exactly like being alone, she just preferred it,(if that makes sence) she would much prefer to be around N’kar then alone though. “Nekarian, I like that name,” she said softly, smiling, “my whole family is named after flowers, I guess my parents thought it would be amusing, although, I think Lillys are best,” she grinned. “I don’t think I’d mind being able to tell when surprises were coming, I don’t tend to do well with surprised, unless it’s a very small crowd, like, one person doing the surprising or something, if it’s a room I go all red again and I’m like,” she chuckled nervously holding up a hand a waving, “kind of like that…” she hadn’t been surprised very often, the biggest ones were impressing, which she blushed at, and her brother coming to her that evening, another big blushing moment, as many people were stood there. Lilly though a moment and really wondered why she asked that again, she knew whatever the answer was it was going to make her blush, but still curiosity got her, she smiled though at the same time, it was nice being complimented by N’kar instead of being embarrassed by it, and she realized it, making her wondering why exactly, but she would figure it out later, in the form of, her dragon would bluntly let her have it. For now she tried to think of something to say, after a moment of silence though she finally got her brain around something. “Th-thank you, i-im glad you enjoy t-talking with m-me, I think t-the same thing b-but about … y-you, and n-no it’s n-not creepy,” she smiled at his laughing, at least he wasn’t feeling awkward about being open about things, Lilly wasn’t feeling awkward either, just a little bashful. Lilly chuckled, how could she take offence to it, it was honest, she would be AWFUL, why should you take offence to something that you’re not good at doing if someone mentioned it? “None taken.” She had thought for a moment after though, Sirth would do a good job, she had far too much energy at times and was always really happy, so she would probably make a good host, “Sirth would be far better at it then I would, she could probably cook as well.” Lilly nodded, she also wondered though, had he really had no friends like her before, she didn’t think he was lying, he just seemed like such a nice person really, and it seemed odd that no one else would of picked up on it, but then again, she thought, he would have to want to talk to them too, “Hmm, I think I’d like to be number one, I’ve never been that, so, I thing, I’d like that, best…” smiling, almost grinning at the thought, she secretly hoped that he would consider her number one too, but it was maybe too soon for that. ‘yay!’ Sirth nuzzled his head as it came back, and sighed happing as she was held closer, returning to her happy humming with Rhiunth. She had considered napping a little, but what fun is that. Sirth was glad at that point for if someone else had made the comments they might be there instead of her, but she thought about their riders next and thought that maybe they wouldn’t, because Rhiunth seemed about as worried as their riders as she was, ‘Well its they’re loss, I have a awesome dragon, and they don’t, and on that point, mine has an awesome dragons rider, eventually. I wonder if I should prod her… or let her figure it out on her own, probably best the latter.’ Sirth hummed in agreement, ‘good point,’ she would take the blame for this, she knew that Lilly would be happy with this, it’s something she needed. Sirth pondered a moment, trying to think of something, but the more she thought the more she didn’t want to think about the time she would be apart for the lovable brown, ‘well, umm, I’m not sure, I’m sure it won’t be very often though, so don’t worry about it too much.’ for the first time since she had started her amazing idea streak she had finally hit a stump, but really any other idea was either waaaay to corny or not very helpful. Sirth wouldn’t do that it was true, but it was fun to joke about, the images were pretty priceless, but still, ’heh, you would desert me and go to the aid of my Lilly-mine then? And you’re a brown my dear, she will always love you, especially because you almost fall over when she rubs you.’ she giggled at the brown rubbing her snout against him some more lovingly, trying to mimic Lilly rubbing him, it probably wouldn’t work so well, but she would try. Was there any point in mentioning Lilly was blushing? Probably not, but she was. She figured, he was talking about the same thing she was thinking though, that there dragons seemed right for each other, and she felt that he was right for her, and she was taking a guess he felt she was right for him, or was she jumping ahead of the game here? “What about us?” Lilly said it before she realized what she had said, she meant it but she didn’t mean to say it out loud, but she wasn’t blushing any extra from it either or at least she wasn’t yet. “With Sirth I never really know what makes her tick though, but you’re probably right, it would be a little silly, and she hasn’t been this way with other browns.” Lilly smiled sort of uneasily, she hoped Rhiunth would catch her too, but she wasn’t sure of her own dragons ability in that situation, “well, it’ll be a chase like she’s never had, because she’s never risen yet, and I know that she hasn’t because of me, and I wondered if, because of that I’m holding her back from it?” |

"Mhmm, it would be interesting to find out if they could." he said, still partially thinking out loud. He doubted their dragons actually could see the future, any more than their riders could. It would be silly for dragons to be able to do such things when their riders couldn't. N'kar laughed at Lilly suggestion, thinking about whether or not it would be possible for two people to be loners together. In a way, it kind of did seem possible. "I think so... to an extent at least. I mean, if we avoided everyone else and only ever spent time with each other, then couldn't we still be considered loners?" The thought made sense to him at least. He smiled then, glad Lilly didn't find his name stupid or something. "Thanks Lilly." He said happily. "They named you all after flowers, huh? And just how many siblings do you have?" N'kar chuckled, shaking his head. "Not surprises like that, though I can't say I disagree there. I just meant small things, like, say a flower for no reason, or something like that." N'kar couldn't imagine he would be big on large groups of people jumping out of unexpected places and scaring the life right out of you either, not that he knew enough people well enough for that to ever happen to him. He was perfectly fine with that though. He didn't have to be paranoid whenever he went into a room that way, especially when he had been asked to go to that room for some reason unknown to him. He smiled at Lilly, but the silence was beginning to drag on a little. He was almost beginning t wonder if he had gone too far when Lilly did speak again. "Of course I do. It's so easy... for some reason." the rider confessed, shrugging. "I'm glad you feel the same. It makes things a little less awkward... And I'd hate to be creepy right now." He laughed. Thankfully Lilly didn't think it was creepy. N'kar didn't know what he would have done if she had been freaked out by what he had said. The idea of a dragon playing the part of host was an amusing one, to be sure. N'kar could imagine Sirth showing people around and entertaining guests. Lilly was probably right about Sirth's potential at such a task. "If only she weren't a dragon. But what exactly would a dragon cook? I can't imagine they would have much of an idea how to cook for humans, at least, considering the... uh, differences, in menues." He laughed. So Lilly had never been considered 'number one' friend before, as far as she knew at least. She was sweet, but judging by his own past experience and what she had said, it probably wasn't all that surprising. N'kar thought he would be lucky if he was on just about anyone's list of friends, personally. The fact that Lilly considered him such and they had only been talking for a little while now was both fantastic and a little surprising, but he wasn't going to argue. "Well then number one it is! It would almost seem silly to tack you on at the end of the list anyway, considering you're the only one of these friends I can even still see physically and I had a hard time being so open with even those other friends before." Rhiunth laughed at Sirth's unhidden enjoyment of the situation. He willingly went along with her nuzzle, returning it as well. Sirth's continuous compliments were almost too much, even for Rhiunth, and N'kar had always thought something like that would be impossible for his slightly insane dragon. 'Their loss indeed. I would have little desire to catch them even if they were so kind though. Your kind words aren't the only thing I like about you, you know Sirth. I'd like to think I have a pretty wonderful dragon myself that no one else does.' The dragon said, his eyes lightng up in a playful spark. Rhiunth did care a lot about N'kar and what his own actions would do to his rider.Rhiunth knew he didn't care much for flights, and usually he didn't care much for riders of the dragons rising. Lilly was a very rare exeption, and Rhiunth liked it. It was god for him. 'As tempting as it might be to prod them along, they'll probably be better off it we let them figure it out on their own. Though maybe it wouldn't hurt if we... helped situations along every now and then.' Rhiunth was talking of ourse about making their riders spend more time together, of course. If they did that, chances were better that they might need less help from certain outside parties to figure things out. The brown already knew he was going to receive a portion of the blame for it though. Rhiunth was perfectly fine with their time apart not being very often, and didn't intend to worry himself over it too much. 'I won't. I'll just spend that time looking forward to when I CAN have you.' He didn't pay much attention to the fact that Sirth had finally seemed to have reached a point where she couldn't come up with an idea. 'I never said that... But I suppose I could tag along with you when Yours needs help. If Mine doesn't need me, of course.' Partially humoring Sirth then, Rhiunth leaned into her snout as the green immitated her rider, laughing the whole time. Lilly's next question was yet another one of those that N'kar hadn't really prepared an answer for. Though, if he had thought about it, he probably could have guessed that would come up sooner or later. If he hadn't recovered from nearly choking on himself so soon before he might have done it again. "Us?" He said it slowly, letting the idea run around for a moment before saying anything. "Well, I hope I can say this without making things awkward..." And of course this was followed by a pause. He just couldn't get off saying this smoothly, could he? If he waited any longer he probably WOULD make it awkward. "I-I think so. I think the dragons know more than we do, and I... I think they might be right." There, had that really been so hard? Probably not, but now N'kar sat there thinking it over and over again, hoping he had managed to get his point across the way he had intended. He did feel a little reassured though when Lilly said that Sirth hadn't acted this way with other browns before. "Yeah... I guess it would make sense if she hadn't risen before, huh?" He said then, laughing. "I don't think you're holding her back. She's concerned about you and how you would hold up, and when you're ready for it, she'll rise." |

If their dragons could see the future it would be more beneficial they finding possible relationships, they could foresee where Thread would be falling, and have a lot more than just one weyr there, they could see mistakes they might possibly make and avoid them, they could foresee issues that would either harm or kill their riders and avoid it completely, the power to see the future would be so good that it would probably make Pern something else completely. Lilly only nodded in agreement, she wasn’t sure there was really much else to add. Listening to N’kar she liked the sound of it, although she had a feeling their dragons would disagree, they had each other but that didn’t mean they wouldn’t want to go and be around other dragons as well that were their friends, but then again, what’s to stop them going on their own, “Yeah, I guess that sounds about right if you ask me too,” Lilly chuckled as she had a silly thought suddenly, “We would be hermits, the only hermit duo ever!” well at least she thought it was funny. “just one but, my whole family is named after flowers, my grandparents too, at least, on my dad’s side, it’s just coincidence I suppose that he married someone called rose, my dad is Heath, obviously I’m Lillium, my brother is well, he’s the odd one, his real name is Zephyranth, but he didn’t like it and change to Zenth, my grandparents are Poplar, and Thisle, see I got the best name, Lilly …” what a weird idea for a family, name everyone after flowers. Lilly wouldn’t mind the flower surprise she supposed especially if it were a lillium, she would blush immensely but she really wouldn’t mind, it never happened to her before though so she didn’t expect it any time soon. “Hmm, ok, I see what you mean now, I guess that would be a bit more of a pleasant surprise, and would take the fun out of it if you knew.” She wondered why certain people find it easier to talk to certain individuals than others, it was obviously something within their consciousness, but she still had to wonder what it was, and how you just seemed to know the right person. She had that same feeling though with N’kar and she couldn’t place what it was about him that made her so comfortable, she hadn’t even felt this comfortable with Maggie, and she had pretty much been her only real friend, “i-isnt, it w-weird, how we have p-people that we just s-seem comfortable a-around f-for, no reason?” Lilly giggled rather furiously at the thought of the different meals that would be served, and then started in a funny voice “Today’s choice, slightly chewed cow, or maybe, raw fish!” she laughed at the thought, it was really amusing to her, “maybe if we gave her a hate and cane she could dance for them as well.” She continued to laugh, which grabbed the attention of her dragon, who glanced over just briefly, but returned to not really paying attention to her, she was surprised that she was laughing so much but wasn’t going to stop her, that’s for sure. Lilly smiled glad that she would be number one, but wondered why he had such a hard time being so open with his other friends, there was only one way to find out! “So, why didn’t you find it so easy? Being open that is…” if she knew that N’kar had thought It was a little surprising that he was considered a friend to her, then she would also question the same thing, except more, for she hadn’t jumped to pick him up as he fell, and protected him, she had more than good reasoning really, and besides, he has a brown. Sirth had raised up to look over at Lilly for a moment, ’I don’t think I’ve ever seen her laugh so much, it’s nice to see her so happy.’she returned her head back to Rhiunth and hummed happily some more at his words back to her, ’I like that thinking my dear, because if that is true, we both have something very amazing, and let’s face it, it’s better that we have it than not, Right?’ she didn’t really have to ask she was certain he would say yes, but, rhetorical questions exist for a reason. Sirth agreed, prodding them subliminally would probably work to their advantage. Sirth agreed with a hum, ’yeah, though I get the feeling sometimes we won’t have to do much pushing you know?’ ’that’ll work, but I’d bet that when were apart time will go soooo slowly and when were together it’ll go by really fast why does that happen I wonder. ’ it was a question everyone had asked themselves, the things you didn’t want to do seemed to drag on all day long, and then when you had some time with the ones you love, or want to be around, or doing something you enjoy, time just flew by, dragon and human alike had the same problem. ’hmm she doesn’t need me very often, well I mean not for important things, she needs me of course.’ she chuckled, if Lilly didn’t have Sirth there would be problems, the girl would probably have gotten lost and fallen off Pern or something. Lilly was a little confused, and her face would show it, she wasn’t really sure where he was going, did their dragons know something she did, she questioned Sirth quickly but she claimed to know nothing. So what exactly was he getting at, it wasn’t awkward because she was kind of lost. She sat trying to piece together what he meant exactly, but it really didn’t work out. “hmm, i-im, not quiet … s-sure I understand.” She sat with a slight confused look to her, combined with a look of pleading for something to make sense. Lilly nodded with a ‘uh-huh’ to accompany it, Sirth had also told her that she didn’t rise because she didn’t want to, and never ever even mentioned the cause to be Lilly, but N’kars explanation made it seem more like it was her fault, she was sure he didn’t mean it to sound that way though. It did make her feel a little better about it though, realizing that even if he were right, which she suspected he was, Sirth was doing it because of her, and it made her feel good, that her dragon considered her feelings and her well being. “well, I suspect that will change soon.” Edited by Goonba, May 31 2010, 05:09 PM.

Hermit duo? That only sounded hilarious. N'kar could see it, the pair of them shut up away from the rest of the weyr, avoiding contact with anyone except when it was absolutely necessary for interaction. In theory it didn't seem that bad though. They would be free of all the stress and nervousness that went along with interaction in the weyr, and they would only have each other to really worry about. "Yeah, ahermit duo. We'd be the crazy riders that everyone avoids because they'd be afraid we were insane." He laughed at the image, the sighed a little. "Somehow I think that might be a little hard though, what with me being a wingsecnd and with drills and all. I think we'd have to come out eventually." He chuckled. It was a nice thought though. "Huh, that's actually pretty cool. Its like one extra little family connection. I can't say I know why my parents named me the way they did." The rider shrugged. He supposed it was just a name they liked. He couldn't really ask them or anything. "See? It wouldn't be ALL fun if you could read people's minds. Then they couldn't do nice things like that, and eventually they might just stop because your knowing beforehand took all the fun out of it" N'kar teased. Lilly had a good point. N'kar didn't really have an explanation for it either. What was it that made it so easy for him to get along with her? It had started with the fact that they were similar personality-wise, but that could hardly be the reason now. There was something more... At least he thought there was. He couldn't really put a name to it though. "It is weird. I wonder what it is about some people that just seems to... click? I doubt I'll ever figure it out though." Wasn't that the truth. N'kar was no psychologist. Far from it in fact. The odds of him figuring something like that out without it being spelled out for him weren't very high. If he could, maybe he would have been able to get over his dislike of meeting people. N'kar joined in on Lilly's giggling with his own laughter. "Mmm, I have to say, that slightly chewed cow doesn't sound too bad!" The dragons probably wouldn't find their jokes that funny, but they weren't seeming to pay too much attention, outside of Sirth taking a moment to glance over at Lilly. The green's attention wasn't spared on her long though, as Rhiunth was apparently a good enough distraction. N'kar hadn't ever been that open with people, and he honestly didn't know why. It could have been because he was afraid of what how he might be seen by them if they knew what it was he was thinking. He had been a little socially awkward - not that he wasn't now at times. He just... didn't seem to trust them with personal information as easily. That had been a few turns ago though, and Rhiunth had helped him some since he had impressed. "I can't really say. I guess it's just the way I was. " He shrugged. Rhiunth followed Sirth's gaze to her rider slowly, watching them curiously for a moment. He was proud of his rider, but he wouldn't say so yet. 'Of course it's better. I wouldn't trade it for anything.' The brown knew Sirth wasn't actually looking for an answer, but he felt one was appropriate anyway. Rhiunth laughed, a low rumble. No, they probably wouldn't need to do much convincing. The riders seemed to be enjoying their time almost as much as the dragons, if not quite as openly. 'You're probably right. I think they'll probably do it themselves before we even have the CHANCE to prod!' Rhiunth looked at Sirth, playful disappointment plain on his face. 'Why do you have to bring that up? That's no fun at all. Now I'm going to have to think about that when you're not around.' The brown pouted at the green, pretending to be sulking a little. She did have a point though. Whenever you were looking forward to something it always seemed to take longer to get there. He sighed. It was just something he would have to live with. 'I do hope she needs you SOMETIMES. Even though I'd hate to give you up, I'd feel kind of bad if your rider didn't need you.' He teased. N'kar's face fell. Apparently he hadn't managed to get his point across as well as he had hoped. And not only had he managed to completely confuse Lilly, but now he would have to try and say all that again. He chewed his lip for a moment, trying to think how best to rephrase. "Well, I guess I mean I think they know more than they're saying." N'kar stopped again, still trying to explain better than he had before. "I mean, we're only getting part of the conversation ourselves, if they're even sharing that much with us. B-but. I think." He sighed. Now he sounded like a stammering idiot again. Way to go N'kar. "I think there's a reason we get along as well as we do, and a reason why they're over there crooning all over each other the way they are." He said, speaking clearer now. "I just don't think we're as willing to admit it." He laughed, a hint of how nervous he was in his laugh, but not much. That was good at least. He nodded. Considering everything that was going on, Lilly was probably right. He wouldn't be surprised if Sirth did rise before long. "I get the feeling you're right." |

Yeah it was probably a little too silly to try and do; Lilly snapped her fingers, in a disappointedly joking manner. Well they could probably at least get away with it more than most people would try as well, although she suspected their dragons probably wouldn’t agree to it, “it would be nice, if you ask me, but I have to point out, that we have overly social dragons, I don’t think they would let us stay in the all the time, especially if it were nice outside, I don’t know about Rhi, but Sirth is one of those dragons who will go out on a sunny day, for any reason other than to bask, she’s not really, a subdued dragon” she peered over at her dragon raising an eye brown… “However…” it was obvious what she was getting at, the first time her dragon had been physically still, and all it took was a morning with a brown dragon. Figures. “Wait, you’re a wing second?!” a worried look came over her face how did he really manage that? He didn’t seem like the leading type, but she didn’t want to offend by saying that out loud. Lilly was glad that N’kar thought that their families names were cool, she didn’t think so but it wasn’t something that needed to be voice, she had had some people who thought it was silly, but she didn’t think N’kar would think that hence why she told him. “hmm, yeah I suppose its kinda neat, ,my brother doesn’t think so though,” a slight chuckle escaped her, “they named you Nekarian because it’s a great name, and they liked it,” she smiled to him, very approvingly, she liked the name, what better reason was there to call you child something you liked, it would be stupid to call them anything you didn’t. She nodded agreeing with him, “well, lucky us, we don’t have to worry about that, unless it’s something our dragons purposely let us know.” Lilly smiled at him though as he explained he didn’t understand it, she patted his shoulder smiling to him “it’s ok I don’t think any of us could really explain it, it’s just something that is, sometimes I don’t think I want to know, to be honest, I’m just glad that, it seems everyone has someone.” And silently she thought to herself, ‘and I think I’ve found mine’ , causing her to blush slightly as she admitted to it and then acted distracted looking at an odd flying dragon or something in the Weyr bowl to distract her. Lilly stunk her tongue out accompanied with a “BLEH!” and laughed a little more, “I think I’ll pass thank you, I think spiders and crickets sound more appetizing then something Sirth has gnawed on.” She shuddered at the thought of that as well, it was pretty daring telling someone you would prefer to eat insects then something your dragon had chewed on, fortunately, she didn’t have to deal with that, we sighed as her laughter came to an end, looking over at N’kar, smiling simply because he was laughing too, it felt good laughing with someone. Lilly let out a curious hmm, trying to figure out something that might make sense but she wasn’t much of a psychiatrist, “well, maybe, they just weren’t the right people for you?” ’so, enlighten me, what else is it you actually like about me,’she mumbled in an almost sleepy tone, honestly she wasn’t that interested, well she was, but it really wouldn’t make a difference in her feelings towards him, but curiosity got the better of her, also it gave her those warm fuzzy feelings, and she liked it, why not try and pry some more of it. Sirth searched her rider’s feelings, feeling for the force, I mean, feeling for her feelings about N’kar, and was pretty surprised by what she found, Lilly knew what Sirth was doing, buy didn’t even try to hide it, which was more of a surprise for Sirth, she retracted her probing, sighing happily ’Nope, if we wait much longer we won’t get a chance to prod, the good news though is that Lilly-mine catches on a little faster than I do’ she kept her chatting just to Rhiunth now, she didn’t want Lilly knowing she was telling Rhiunth, she would let her know later, but for now to keep her rider on track, she would keep it from her. Sirth ‘awwed’ at the brown ’don’t do that, it’s not fair! The pouting of Rhiunth is something that is too cute to bare!’ she had to look away for a moment pretending not to look at the cuteness that was a pouting Rhiunth, but inevitably coming back nuzzling him. She reached her tail out to intertwine it around his, ’no pouting, you will have me as much as we can accomplish.’ Sirth laughed, ’if she didn’t have me, she would either have fallen off the edge of Pern or be croocked up in some house on the side of a mountain waving a cane at passers by going “GET OFF MY LAWN! Pesky kids and their meddling canine!’ she laughed at her bonded image of her being this grumpy old woman, grumbling at passersby. Lilly tried to lower her head along with N’kar trying to keep eye contact with him, slightly embarrassed she hadn’t picked up on what he meant before. She listened paying more than her full attention to him, not even flinching away for a second afraid she might miss something. As he explained she understood where he was going with it this time, after she was feeling the same thing, and she too was just trying to not admit it, she blushed rather rosily, but smiled still, and she stilled looked him straight on at him. She sat there in silence for a moment, as she tried to figure how she should word it, finally instincts, if you could call it that, really took over, she grasped onto N’kar hand with both of hers holding it up and then lowering her head to it, closing her eyes with she rested her forehead, on her hands grasping his, “assuming you’re not admitting the same thing I’m not admitting, but trying to admit, we should probably be following in our dragons paw prints, because either I’m so very wrong or that’s what you mean, and if it is it’s then I’m feeling …the same thing.” She held onto his hand tightly almost preying she was right here, for if she were wrong, she would probably becoming a hermit… Edited by Goonba, Jun 1 2010, 11:47 AM.

That was true. As content as Rhiunth seemed to be laying there with Sirth, N’kar doubted the dragon would take too kindly to spending the rest of his life locked away from the outside world. Rhiunth lived for interaction, for making friends. He was hardly anything without it. N’kar knew his dragon would go crazy after only a few days. Well, crazier. “It would be nice, but I’m afraid you’re right. I don’t think those two would survive if we tried to force them into seclusion.” The rider laughed. He got where Lilly was going with that, though. Somehow, bringing the two together had cancelled them out. “They’re still now, but you saw them before. I’d say this’ll only last for so long before they’re chasing each other around again, playing games.” It was probably true, at least as far as N’kar would guess. For how long exactly, he couldn’t be sure. The pair of them over there looked pretty content to just lie there all day. From what Lilly had said about Sirth, though, and how he knew Rhiunth to be, there was no way they would stay like that forever. N’kar laughed at Lilly’s surprise, shaking his head. He didn’t need to read minds to tell what she was thinking. “I know, I’m hardly the kind of person to be in charge of a wing, right? I’m not quite sure how it happened either. I think it was mostly due to a lack of people for the position. They needed a wingsecond and I was here, so there ya go!” That was pretty much how he remembered it at least. “I suppose it isn’t all bad though… I mean, I can follow orders pretty well. That was always something they praised me on. And then Rhiunth, he’s probably more the wingsecond than I am.” N’kar shrugged, looking off into the bowl. “It works though.” Aside from the meetings, that was. He could run drills all day long, but the meetings were something else. N’kar laughed. It made sense that her brother didn’t like it much. He grew up with it, and men probably weren’t quite as keen on the flower things as women were. “Yeah, I guess that explains it, huh? I mean, they did choose it.” It wouldn’t have made much sense if they didn’t like it. "True. If the dragons knew about it before hand though. There's always the possibility that whoever's doing the surprising isn't a rider... Or that their dragon doesn't let the other know before." Because that was a complete possibility for either of them, N'kar thought. With the two of them joking about being hermits, the chances that someone else might try and surprise either of them didn't seem very high. "Everyone has someone..." He repeated the last part somewhat quietly, allowing himself a content smile in Lilly's direction. He liked the way it sounded. He hoped it was true, too. Not that it seemed he had much of a reason to worry right now. "Spiders and crickets huh? I don't know. At least I could still cook a cow that's been chewed on by a dragon. I'm not sure spiders would taste too great, even if they were cooked." He teased. Not that N'kar really thought that sounded that good either. He hoped he would never have to choose between the two. N'kar thought it over, all the people he had met and how conversations had gone with them. "I guess you could say they weren't the right people. But then that makes me sound picky!" He protested playfully. "I don't think I'm picky." He said, sounding hurt, but still completely teasing. 'Hmm, what else do I like about you...' Rhiunth proceeded to think about all the things he could possibly say that he liked about Sirth. 'You are a lovely shade of green, one of the most beautiful I've ever seen. As are you. You are beautiful. You are kind, and funny, and have the best ideas I've heard. But most of all you're very sweet, and I have never met a dragon before that I've enjoyed the company of nearly as much.' Rhiunth sighed happily, satisfied with his list of compliments, more or less. There was more he could think of, he was sure, but that was just what came to mind first. He was enjoying it at least as much as Sirth was. He didn't try to pry with N'kar, not yet. He could feel what his rider was feeling, and right now he didn't have a need to check up on him. 'Darn, and I was so looking forward to prodding, too.' Rhiunth joked. 'N'kar Mine knows, I know he does. He's just being stubborn. He doesn't need my help though. By the time we leave today, he won't deny it.' There was a laughing in his voice, a kind of knowing sound that said that he knew exactly what his rider was thinking and finding it mildly amusing. N'kar wouldn't be a problem. He knew it as muchas Lilly did, he just wouldn't say it. Rhiunth laughed, self satisfied with his efforts. He let her tail find his and twined his with hers with just as much enthusiasm. 'Fine, I'll stop. You win.' the brown returned her nuzzling. 'Well I'm glad she didn't fall off of Pern or something like that! I rather like Yours, and Mine does too. And on top of that, if she hadn't been in that cave this morning, none of us would ever have met! I'd hate to think that she might have fallen off somewhere, depriving us all of this lovely morning. And besides, you keeping her firmly planted is just another reason to love you.' Among other things of course. There were other reasons for not wanting a person to fall off of a planet, but those were enough for now. The way Lilly payed attention to what N'kar said made him feel a little better. At least she was willing to listen to his rambling explanations, that was a good sign. He was so afraid that he'd gone and ruined the moment and hurt the chances he had at... whatever that thing was that he was still so careful to avoid saying, even though it was getting harder and harder to avoid saying it. He smiled a little helplessly as Lilly blushed rather brightly. That was either a really good thing - him having hit fairly close to the mark - or a really bad thing - her blush being because she knew he was going somewhere that she wasn't. He hoped furiously that it was the former rather than the latter. He didn't know what he would do if he was judging this all wrong. The silence wasn't really helping though. Lilly grabbed his hand, and for a moment he was too surprised to think of anything to say. He nodded quickly though. Even if he didn't know what to say, he could at least ease Lilly's worry and assure her that she was right. How awful it would have been if she had mistaken his silence for a rejection of her actions. "That's... Yes, yes that's what I mean." He said finally, relief and joy filling him then. He smiled reassuringly at Lilly, only too glad that he hadn't scared her away. He decided to chance something of his own then, considering how hard it must have been for Lilly to do what she just had. He slid over again, now closing the little bit of space that had remained between them and placed his other hand on top of hers, still smiling. He hoped he wasn't going too far with this, because he had no idea what he would do if he was. |

Lilly chuckled, “No they would probably drive us to insanity, wanting to leave and go out, and socialize, maybe we could just be like. Sure, have at it, you know where to find us…” she giggled a little now, but agreed with N’kar on that their dragons would sit there forever, the dragon ADD would kick in sooner or later, she just hoped it lasted a while longer, and if it did kick up eventually, she hoped she would be left behind instead of being swept away in it. “you know how they say, two wrongs make a right, maybe it works the same for two social drago … no apparently it doesn’t, Sirth just informed me, however I was going to say that two social dragons brought together make an anti-social dragon.” She smiled shaking her head at her dragon, well, she thought for a moment she might be onto something, apparently not. Lilly listened as N’kar explained how he had ended up as wingsecond, as he finished she scowled at him, and pointing a finger at him “you better take good care of Rhiunth now!” she tried to hold her serious face, but eventually it just wore off into a smile, “seriously though, please be careful,” she didn’t ever want anyone getting hurt, but she had extra reasons to tell N’kar to be careful, obviously the reasons were coming out as the day went on, but she also had Rhiunth to worry about as well, for if something happened to him, she knew that Sirth would be miserable. “Yeah I wouldn’t put It past Sirth to let someone surprise me, she seems to enjoy me getting any sort of interaction with people, even if its awkward for me.” Yeah Sirth enjoyed that, because then the dragon had something to make her Lilly do, and interact with, she just wanted her talking to people, the dragon loved getting to know people and other dragons, so she tried to force it upon Lilly too. Lilly smiled back at N’kar, she felt like she had hit on something there, and it seemed like a good one too, she was thinking something along the same lines he was, that she wouldn’t have to look much further to find her ‘someone’. Spiders and crickets and chewed cow, OH MY! None if sounded great that’s why Lilly was so glad there was a ample supply of food for them AND their dragons, but Lilly all of a sudden had a thought on a funny question, “have you ever tried spider? Someone told me somewhere it’s a delicacy; you never know it might be the other, other, OTHER … white meat.” She grinned at N’kar, continuing on the joke, “I have to say I’m so glad that we riders don’t have to cook for ourselves, I’m awful at cooking, I’m the only person I know that can burn water…” there might have been some exaduration, but it was best she didn’t cook, especially if the Weyr didn’t have a fire squad. “I don’t think you’re picky, and even if you are, it’s not necessarily a bad thing.” She gave him back a reassuring smile, and a sympathetic pat on his arm. Sirth led there, literally rolling in the compliments as they came from Rhiunth, and she loved every single one, she lay there still and happily humming as she heard Rhiunth talk about her, ’So you like my ideas hmm? I think I have a good one for you, I think you should stay with me forever, until the sun no longer exists and for a while longer after that.’ she lay eyes closed nuzzling Rhiunth, she figured he would think it was a good idea, but there’s a difference between knowing something, and hearing it, it’s always so much better when with the latter. ’hmm maybe we should leave them be then and see how far they get on their own, risky I know, but maybe we can get away without being blamed!’ she wouldn’t care if Lilly blamed her for it, she would take full responsibility in fact, because Sirth knew, somehow deep inside hat N’kar would be good for Lilly, and she knew that Lilly knew that too, she just had to get her to open up to it, although Lilly was doing a good job of that on her own. Sirth rolled her eyes at the brown again, lovingly; she was rather amazed that not only had she found him as this amazing dragon, and on top of everything, he was playful and cute, she couldn’t ask for more, but she had to redirect her luckiness moment to listening to him. She was honestly glad that Lilly had not fallen off Pern either, for the same reasons as he had stated but also for the one extra that if Lilly were not here, Sirth wouldn’t be either, ’I cannot lie, I must agree with you my dear, I’m glad she still here, the biggest reason, if she were gone, I would be too, and let’s face it, it’s cold in between its much nicer being under your wing, when I’m all warm and cozy’ she fidgeted slightly trying to move closer to him again, but alas, you can only get SO close to something, but she was going to try anyways. Lilly had held on to his hand and repeated “please oh please oh please,” in her mind over and over praying she was right. She had missed his nod, basically because she wasn’t looking, but once he had said to her that’s what he was getting at, a flood of relief came over Lilly, so much so that a tear escaped her, but would probably sneak off her face without letting N’kar be the wiser, she looked up at him her blush ever present, but she was smiling so happily that it really wouldn’t be the most noticeable thing, she looked back to her hand as his other hand came and clasped hers, she pulled their hands towards her face and move her face to rub her cheek against their hands, smiling and closing her eyes as she held it there, “I… don’t know why, I couldn’t figure it out before, but now, it makes sense, before today, before i met you i really hadn't felt like this, i guess thats why i couldn't really admit it... because i didn't know,"she looked at him questionably trying to see if she was making sense, after all, she was in a half rambling , half nervous, half hoping she wasn't making a fool of herself at that moment, but coming out and admitting her feelings was something new for her and before now she hadn't ever told anyone how she felt, ever, so she was just hoping she was doing it right, she continued "and for some reason, my mind, is, perfectly fine with it, I can’t believe how … comfortable, I feel,”she blushed and smiled "and i'm blaming you for this as well." she chuckled looking into his eyes, grinning happily, finally admitting her feelings made her feel great, and she couldn't stop smiling now. N'kar laughed at hearing Lilly's suggestion. Rhiunth? Leave N'kar alone like that? Good luck. If it ever came to something like that, Rhiunth would probably drag N'kar outside with him before he'd go anywhere alone. "It would be worth a shot, but I doubt Rhiunth would leave me alone if I tried to become a hermit, even with someone else. He would worry fo my sanity." He laughed, rolling his eyes. He was thankful for it though. As protective as the dragon could be, it was nice to know that he was that worried about his rider. N'kar was sure Rhiunth would never let a thing happen to him as long as it was within his power. "It was a good enough idea," He shrugged. "Judging by the way the two of them look like they could sit there with the bowl falling down around them and still not move." N'kar was curious to see just what an 'anti-social Rhiunth' would look like. He'd spent turns with the brown always being such a lunatic. To see him any other way would be both strange and almost worrying. A look similar to that of a child receiving the same scolding for the thousandth time fell over N'kar's face. "Of course I will!" He said in teasing protest. "Besides, I don't know why you're so concerned about him. He probably ends up taking care of me more than I do him half the time." He smiled then. He had a feeling Lilly was worried about more than just Rhiunth, but she just wasn't saying it. He let himself go serious for a moment then, a small reassuring smile on his face. "Don't worry, I will be." That seemed like something Sirth would do, from what N'kar had seen from her so far. "I'm sure she only does it out of love. Possibly for entertainment, but I'm sure the love is always present too." Rhiunth had done similar things before to N'kar. Maybe not quite so much for a reaction, but he had his reasons. "Rhiunth has a way of... not giving me all the details sometimes. He's only done it a few times, but the result is usually me awkwardly ending up in a place I would normally avoid. He thinks it's good for me, but sometimes I just think he wants a good laugh." N'kar glared over at the dragons playfully. "Not like this morning though. He was still mostly asleep when I left. That was my own doing." He laughed. And this had much better results than anytime Rhiunth had ever pushed him into something. N'kar raised an eyebrow at Lilly's question. Had he ever eaten a spider before? Had he ever had a reason to, that was his question. "Nope, never tried one. I've never really had the desire to, to be honest. They don't look like they would taste all that great, and they're small so you would have to eat quite a few of them for them to be worth anything I would think." He kind of hoped he wouldn't have to try one anytime soon. They just didn't quite fit his description of 'food'. "Burn water, eh? Good thing you don't have the chance then!" He teased playfully. "I've never really tried cooking honestly. I never saw a reason to. Well, that is unless you count all that meat I had to cut when Rhiunth was a hatchling." Now that had been a different experience all together. "So if it helps, you're probably better at it than I am." He laughed. "Thanks Lilly, I appreciate that." Rhiunth's eyes whirled with enjoyment with the situation. He would love nothing more than to do exactly what Sirth had just suggested and lay there for a long long while. 'I love your ideas, and that might just be the best idea you've had yet, dear Sirth. You could stay there warm under my wing, what do you think of that?' The brown tucked his legs up under him, further indication of the fact that he was happy where he was, thanks. He very well could have layed there until the sun had gone out. 'Hmm, I know N'kar will probably blame me no matter what I do. We could definitely try it anyway. I wonder how far we'd get before they decide to do something about it.' There was a hint of playful bravery in Rhiunth's voice as he spoke. Rhiunth sighed, almost a whimper at the thought of Sirth not being there. He nudged her protectively, tightening his hold around her just slightly, but still enough to be noticed. 'But she is here, and so are you, far from the cold of between. And we hardly need to dwell on things like that when they didn't happen, do we?' He readjusted himself a bit, allowing for a little more room for Sirth to squeeze herself into. If they tried to get much closer they might be mistaken for one - very oddly colored - dragon, but he didn't care. He gazed happily at her, glad she was there and NOT lost in the cold darkness of between. N'kar did happen to miss Lilly's tear of... happiness? relief? Whatever it was, the rider was too caught up in his own thoughts to notice it. His head was practically spinning with worry, but it was clearing up now. Slowly, but it was better than nothing. He allowed his hands to be led up to Lilly's face, beaming in a slightly confused happiness. What was confusing him was a mystery to N'kar, maybe to everyone save Rhiunth, who seemed to have a far better understanding than his rider did, for whatever reason. He would have to be sure to curse his dragon later for not pointing things out sooner. After a moment, he could only think of one thing to say. "Well then I guess I'm just slow..." He joked, relief ever-present. That wasn't completely true. N'kar may have been older, but that didn't mean he had ever felt this way about someone before. In all honesty, he probably had about as much experience as Lilly did now. He was a little embarrassed, but he didn't really care at the moment. He didn't think it mattered much anyway. He laughed a little nervously. "No, it's alright. I honestly... didn't really know either." He smiled apologetically. "I'm glad to hear that, and you can blame me all you want." He laughed. Taking one hand back, N'kar placed his arm around Lilly's shoulders, much like the way Rhiunth had his wing wrapped over Lilly's Sirth though N'kar's action was less intended to copy the dragons, and he grinned widely at her. Lilly smirked rather evilly, “Maybe we could lure him out with Sirth?” it was a silly idea, despite the fact that it was obvious that Rhiunth really was interested in Sirth, she knew that if it came down to it Rhiunth wouldn’t desert his rider, just like Sirth wouldn’t desert her. Sirth would probably do the same as Rhiunth, she would grab Lilly and drag her out with her. Lilly looked around at the bowl, and tried to imagine it falling down, and then in the middle of it all, a green-brown blob sat in the middle of all the chaos, she shook her head chuckling at the thought, “well hopefully that won’t happen, and id hope they WOULD move I’d hate to have to dig them out,” she sighed, the thought of it was something she didn’t really want to think of, and it wouldn’t happen anyways. Lilly raised an eyebrow at N’kar, she wondered herself if he was just playing along or if he really got it, the smile was a clue though, maybe it was her being slow though, “the reason I worry so much about him, is you really don’t want to hear how Sirth can be when she’s all whiney, I don’t want either of us to deal with it, now if something happened to you, well true that would be bad also, but…” she stopped and thought a moment, “actually… now that I think of it, I guess I should worry about you also, because if something happened to you it would also effect Rhi, and then I would hear it from Sirth still.” GOOD JOB LILLY! Play it off like you don’t care, you sly person you! She hoped though that her silly grinning as she talked would give it away still though. She nodded too him, smiling happily “good.” Out of love? Well maybe, she couldn’t understand how putting someone who didn’t do well with people, and having them thrown into groups of random people didnt seem like love, Usually Lilly would just try and back out, but if her dragon was there, it wouldn’t happen, “Love, yeah, she does it out of love of being social; I don’t think it has anything to do with me.” She scoffed at her dragon, glaring evilly for a moment then returning to her neutral posture. Lilly thought that Rhiunth trying to get N’kar to do things sounds, almost exactly like Sirth, another reason why they would get along, but it made her think of something “well, now if he doesn’t tell you where you’re going, and you end up with me, that wouldn’t be awkward, right?” she smiled and blushed a little, and by a little it was like a two out of ten on the BS, (that’s blushing scale) “you might even enjoy that.” Giggling lightly as she talked. She had had a similar morning, she hadn’t slept well but she wasn’t forced out, Sirth merely suggested going to the tunnels because of the water and she knew how much she loved that. “Yeah, I ended up down there not being forced but by suggestion.” It seemed both riders had enjoyed their decision to going down there, “did I ask you why you were down there? I seem to be having a memory lapse?” It was strange for someone who knew Lilly to see her being quiet as silly as she was being, she usually saved it for herself and maybe Sirth, who always knew but pretended not to, “well they MIGHT taste good, and I don’t think they’re very fattening, but I guess you’re probably right …” “Yeah,” she looked away shamefully “it might be safer for everyone else if I don’t cook,” she turned back shrugging with a sort of, I really don’t care for cooking anyways look. She was happy with the food that was provided. Oh yeah, when their dragons were younger, how embarrassing, Lilly wasn’t very good at that either, but she always had a helpful hand from Maggie. “Yeah, back then I had a lot of help.” She just smiled back to N’kar as he thanked her. Oh she intended to, what dragon in their right mind would leave the comfort and safety of a dragons loving protection of his wings, only crazy dragons, which begs the question, why was Sirth still there? Well I guess even crazy dragons have their days. ’hmm I like it,’ she chuckled to him mentally happy with the idea. She lay there happily humming away, as she listened again to Rhiunth saying he would get the blame, ’I know we have sat here and complained about getting the blame, but seeing ours happy, isn’t that worth a little bantering from them? ’she nuzzled lightly against Rhiunth, she figured he would agree though. ’and we would probably be thrown further then we can get before they say something’ chuckling once more. She shook her head, ’no, I suppose we don’t,’ she hadn’t really considered that thinking about not being there might actually be hurtful, as she thought about it, she sighed sadly, but perked herself back up instantly, there was no reason to be sad. She hummed more as she was held closer, and she had a similar though to Rhiunth, about being a green-brown dragon, but she didn’t care if people thought that, in fact she would rather like the idea, they could be a ‘breen’, or a ‘grown’ depending on which way you switched it. She sat there the whole time watching as N’kar replied to her rather, long winded statement, and nervously rambling, she chuckled lightly as he admitted to her he was slow also, shaking her head at him, they were both slow in this part of life, but, slow and steady wins the race right?! She nodded as he also admitted that he didn’t really understand how he was feeling, “I guess this… will be something different for … both of us… hmm?” she rubbed his hand gently, as she talked. She chuckled as he said she could blame it on him, not really having anything to say at that point. She watched his hand leave her and then go around her shoulders, looking back at him smiling, and blushing slightly, she held onto his remaining hand and leant into him and rested her head on his arm looking up at him, it reminded her of being with Maggie, but this time, it seemed to have a lot more meaning, she sat there just smiling and holding his hand. she chuckled lightly, “eventually … I will … figure something else … to say …” it was slightly nervous sounding, but she was still smiling. N'kar laughed. Now there was an idea. It wasn't likely to work, of course, at least not for very long. Rhiunth would still insist N'kar go with him at some point. 'It's not good for you to avoid people for so long, you have to come out sooner or later, blah blah blah' was probably something like what the brown would say. "That's worth a shot! If anything would get him out without me, Sirth might just be that thing." He agreed. "That, or it would backfire and we'd both end up out there too." N'kar hoped the bowl wouldn't fall in on them either, for more reasons than just having to dig out a pair of statue-like dragons from underneath all the destruction. "Ok, so that might have been a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my point." He said, chuckling. "I'm sure they would trouble themselves enough to get up if something like that was happening. I think the desire for survival might be just a little strong, you know?" N'kar looked a little disappointed, but something about the smile still holding its place gave away his teasing. "Oh, I see." He said, trying hard to sound mildly hurt, though chances were that Lilly could see through it. "You're not even worried about HIM for yourself, you're worried about him for Sirth's sake! I'm just here because he's wanted, not because anyone here wants me around. I get it." He added a little 'humph' at the end through his laughter at his own performance and pretended to look dejectedly off to another part of the bowl. He returned smiling though before very long at all. "Nah, of course it does!" N'kar began to explain. "She cares about you, that's why she does it. She probably thinks it's good for you or something. That's what Rhiunth says at least when he does it." He rolled his eyes, laughing. Rhiunth used that line a lot, actually. He was always apologizing, being quick to express his worry over N'kar's choice to avoid being overly social and list all the reasons why his rider should talk to more people. He shook his head. "I appreciate his concern though, even though I generally dislike the outcome. He means well." Lilly's next question required no thought at all, really, but N'kar pretended to think it over just a moment so he didn't seem overly eager. He returned her smile warmly, shaking his head. "No, that wouldn't be awkward. At least, I hope not. Otherwise that would kind of... undo all of this that's happened so far." He held up his hands in a wide gesture, indicating everything that had happened all morning. "And you wouldn't?" He raised an eyebrow questioningly. He nodded slowly, listening to her reason for being down in the tunnels. "If you did, I'm having a bit of lost memory as well." He joked. "I was down there to get to know the weyr a little better, since I knew my old weyr like the back of my hand." "Well if you ever decide to try one, you can let me know how they taste. Otherwise I think I'll be fine just wondering why other people even decided to try it in the first place." N'kar laughed. "It's going to take a little more than 'other people do it' to get me to try one." He cocked his head slightly to one side questioningly, a curious yet slightly worried look on his face. Had something happened when she had tried cooking before? Or maybe she was just really unconfident with her abilities as a chef. "I'm sure it isn't THAT bad." he said in what was probably a poor attempt at making Lilly feel better about it. "I never had the help." He laughed. "Poor Rhiunth had to deal with my learning on the job." 'I'm glad. I might not have let you go anyway though...' Rhiunth teased, nuzzling Sirth yet again. He was more than glad she was enjoying this as much as he was. 'Finally I have a good enough idea.' The brown laughed lightly. He couldn't compare to Sirth's deas though, even with his streak of... one. Yeah, he wasn't even coming close. Still though, he enjoyed it all. 'That's true. I joke about getting blamed, but honestly I'm overjoyed by the fact that Mine is as happy and as comfortable as he is. He's never like this, and I have to say I'm very proud of him. If this is what it takes, I'll take the blame all day long.' The thought of someone trying to throw either Sirth or Rhiunth was a comical one, but he got her point. 'You're probably right.' Rhiunth's mood lightened again instantly, as did his tone. He didn't have to worry about any of that now, and neither did she. He kept his humming in time with hers, creating their own personal song of happiness you could call it. It seemed like not a thing in the world could ruin the mood now, especially since their riders had finally started catching on. Something different was probably a mild way of describing the whole situation, considering the way N'kar - and probably even Lilly - had been over the course of his life, but he nodded anyway. It was totally new and alien to him, but he couldn't say he didn't like it. Sure, he could do without all the awkwardness of when it all started, and all the worrying that he was going to screw something up too. Neither of those things had helped much. But the sheer relief and joy that he felt now was likely one of the best things he had ever felt. He understood what Rhiunth was doing now, as he was pretty much mimicing the dragon himself. He was glad that Lilly was there now, and glad for her hand on his. The only thing he could really think of that compared to this was maybe impressing Rhiunth, but even that was pretty different. There was a permanent smile stuck to his face now as he head rested on his arm, and he allowed himself to rest his cheek on her head. He laughed softly. "There's no need to rush it. I can wait until your mind catches up." He laughed, perfectly happy to sit there now, if that's what would happen. |

Lilly giggled, a thought came to her mind she couldn’t help but think that they were like two small kids trying to find time to spend alone together, at least that’s what it sounded like to her, she had a rather odd imagination, but it seemed kind of cute to her as well. “But it backfiring would, be kind of backwards because if were being hermits together then being dragged out together wouldn’t we still be hermits just outside? … “She looked at him confused slightly; maybe this new feeling was making her brain act all static like. Lilly sometimes took things a little too literal, or if she took them as a joke her replies made it seem like she was taking it literally, she laughed though, she could just imagine her dragon being all lazy, and sloth like, and letting out a yawn and being like ‘sigh, if I have too’, “I’m sure they would for each other if nothing else, excluding us that is.” She chuckled as he tried to sound hurt, he wasn’t very good at faking it if he was trying very hard, but she suspected he wasn’t, she played along more. Gently rubbing his hand as she held on to it still, “aww, but, have you asked Sirth! Maybe she wants you here!” She was obviously playing along too, she sat there grinning to him, caressing his one hand that she still had a hold to, it might take him some time to get it back as well. Lilly still wasn’t convinced, but, at least N’kar seemed sure of his thoughts on it, Lilly had an inspired moment then, “Does Rhi, actually ever tell you WHY? Why it’s good for you that is? I have never heard a single reason to why being overly social is good for me… except I get to meet new people and its fun, which most times I disagree with, in fact, the only time I have agreed that meeting someone has been fun and enjoyable … well, is actually the one time I wasn’t force into it…” she blushed slightly looking up at N’kar smiling. Adding to the already level two blush that she had, “yeah, I wouldn’t want to undo all this,” again she smiled, and pulled his hand close under her chin and nuzzled his hand softly. She giggled lightly as he joked about memory loss, she chalked it up to being overly tired from not sleeping well, she nodded making sure to pay attention to him, she remembered that he had mentioned it when she asked what he was doing down there when they first met in the tunnels, “Oh yeah, I remember now, you did say that when we were down there, guess, I needed a bit of a memory jostle for it to come back to me…” She laughed and shook her head, she wasn’t planning on eating a spider, but she would tell him “ok, IF … wait maybe I can get Sirth to try one for us …” she looked over to the dragon, and thought it through, it MIGHT just work, “but if I do try one I will let you know, in very detailed detail.” She snickered at him telling her that her cooking wasn’t THAT bad, “how do you know, you’ve never seen me cook, after mum tried to teach me, she forbid me to cook, ever!” Lilly yawned lightly, “hmm sorry, and excuse me, but my friend Maggie helped me though the first year of having Sirth.” After she had yawned she had replaced her head on N’kars arm happily smiling away as they talked. ’you would of let me if I had asked you and was serious about it…’ yeah, like she was GOING to ask him to let her go, why would she even do that, it would be like asking her to stick her head underwater indefinitely, SURE she COULD do it, but it wouldn’t be enjoyable, or productive to her health after a while, and she would be without a brown… ’but lets face it, what fun would that be, if I left, id be all cold and lonely and without you and it wouldn’t be warm and… well… you get the point’ she huffed happily, as he announced he had a good enough idea, she thought his ideas were fine, he just needed to be more creative. ’yeah, if there was a surprise I would never of seen coming it’s that Lilly-mine would finally find someone she will be comfortable with,’ she was also surprised to find Rhiunth, she figured though eventually she would find someone, she just wasn’t expecting to be so soon, and with someone so awesome, it was something for sure, she would never forget this day. Lilly sat there, and felt that she could believe N’kar utterly, almost the point where if he said that pigs flew she would believe it. She knew that her mind had made the right decision in him when he said he would wait for her to become less nervous, and he wasn’t trying to rush her now, it’s really what she needed, and by him giving her the time, she could progress this relationship with him faster than if he had been pushing her, at the moment, to her, it was about as close to perfect as she could believe it could get. She sat there, unable to stop smiling, and just completely filled with a warmth she hadn’t felt before, she thought about so many things though at the same time, some of which were, unusual for her, but as long as she didn’t blurt them out she was fine. She finally got a grasp of a thought, “Safe.” Sure I was COMPLETELY random that she just whispered out safe, and it took he a moment to realize she had done it, she move her head away and looked at N’kar straight one, “That, i-is, being, here with you, I feel, r-really, safe…” she nodded as she finished, she blushed rather profusely though, she remembered feeling safe when she were around Maggie like this, though she had never been quiet as, ‘interested’ in Maggie she still felt incredibly safe in Maggies embrace. Lilly wriggled about, and shuffled herself only N’kars lap sitting sideways compared to him, and pulled his arm that was on her shoulder down around her side to hold onto her stomach and grabbed his other hand back and holding onto it as she were before, laying he head on his chest just short of his shoulder, she sat there with her eyes close, holding onto his hand, hoping he didn’t mind her, forwardness? If that could really be called being forward. She was obviously blushing like crazy, she didn’t care though, and she felt so safe she really didn’t look further then the outside of her bubble, “… I-I, f-feel, safest w-when, i-I s-sit like t-this, I h-hope… i-I’m, not m-making, you f-feel a-awkward l-like this.” She still sat there eyes closed holding his hand tightly, nervously stuttering her way though that sentence, but she thought she had done really well, despite what she had basically force N’kar into doing. |

N'kar nodded, thinking. That could make sense, at least depending on which way you looked at it. But then, the rider had a feeling that his dragon wouldn't quite settle for simply getting him outside, and probably not even just with Lilly. No, even though the dragon was more than glad that his rider had finally found someone that he... well, someone that he CARED about, someone he would have no problem visiting without considerable bothering on Rhiunth's part, the brown probably wouldn't think that was enough. He would continue to push him; that's just how he was. "I guess that could work, but wouldn't it be harder to be hermits outside? There would be more people around to possibly interfere with the hermit-ing." N'kar laughed. Yeah, Lilly was probably right. If there was anything Rhiunth would move for now other than his rider, that would be Sirth. He nodded without much else to add to that. A half smile formed on N'kar's face. "Sure, she probably only wants me here for Rhiunth as well." He laughed, pouting a little. "So I guess I'm only needed for keeping him around." Rhiunth gave N'kar plenty of reasons why it was good for him to be more social all the time. The problem was, they appealed more to the dragon than the rider. "Yeah, he lists all kinds of reasons depending on exactly what it is he gets me into. One of his favorites is 'everything's more fun with friends'." That was almost always included in Rhiunth's apology. "He also likes to say that people were meant to be social and that’s why we have a language and live in groups. He seems rather proud of his reasoning on that one, but I like to remind him that there are exceptions to the rule.” N’kar smiled softly; glad Lilly was glad they had met as well. He made a soft ‘hmm’ then when she said she remembered him explaining why he had been in the tunnels. He didn’t. That was a little embarrassing, but he shrugged, deciding he just didn’t remember it because of everything else that had happened. Getting Sirth to try one might work. That is, if she would agree to do it. Whether she did or didn't though, the more they talked about eating spiders, the more N'kar wondered about it. He wasn't planning on popping the next one he found into his mouth, but he did wonder about it. "Very detailed?" He grimaced. "I'm not sure I need THAT much detail. A simple report would work just fine." He joked. That was true, he had never seen Lilly cook, but he still doubted she was as bad as she was claiming to be. He shrugged lightly. "Well, I guess I can't argue then. You're right, I haven't seen you cook." He looked at her curiously a second as she yawned, only then having the sense to remember that all that had happened in the caves had actually been quite early. “I’m not keeping you from anything, am I?” he asked, only now having the sense to make sure he wasn’t being a distraction from something more important. Say sleep, for instance. Rhiunth sighed a little dejectedly. 'Yes, I suppose I would let you go if you asked... But I still wouldn't like it much.' He snuffed teasingly. She would HAVE to be serious if she had any intention of leaving. Rhiunth didn't think the idea of letting her go sounded all that great otherwise. ’I can’t have you all lonely and cold, now can I? And if you did leave, then I would be left with this whole empty space on my side and under my wing with nothing there to fill it.’ And what a tragedy that would be for poor Rhiunth. The dragon nodded in agreement. ’A surprise indeed. I hadn’t really expected N’kar Mine to find someone he so enjoyed the company of, and especially not today. It seemed like it would be such an uneventful, normal day when I woke up. I guess I was wrong, not that I really mind being wrong in this case.’ The tone in the dragon’s voice was one of mild surprise mingled with happy contentment. He definitely wasn’t complaining about being wrong about today at all. N’kar sat there in the silence that followed, breathing slowed to match the feel of the comfort around them now and eyes half closed as he looked off into the bowl, arm around Lilly’s shoulders and head resting on hers. This was far from where they had been only moments before, but then it really wasn’t. The only real difference, he supposed, was that the tense worry and careful reserve that had been present before was gone now, and after confessing their feelings they were both far more at ease it seemed. The fact that neither of them really had much else to say at the moment was fine. This was enough. In saying nothing and merely enjoying each other they were saying a lot. ‘Safe’. Lilly spoke the word, and N’kar twisted around a bit to look at her, raising an eyebrow and wondering what that had meant. “That’s… that’s good. I’m glad I could make you feel safe.” N’kar smiled at Lilly. That was probably the best thing anyone had ever told him. That is, other than the slew of compliments Rhiunth had been known to throw at him between questions when he was still a hatchling, but that was different. He watched her as she shifted about, not fighting her as she manipulated his hands until she had settled with her head of his chest. For a moment, his own face lit up a fiery red, and he wasn’t quite sure exactly what to say. He didn’t object to this, not at all. It was more surprise that kept the words from forming – surprise, and his own reserved personality. Finally he shook it off though, and his former smile returned confidently to its place as he grinned down at Lilly. “Not at all. As long as you feel safe, it’s fine with me.” He tightened his arm around her momentarily in a kind of improvised hug from the position they were now in before letting it go back to resting lightly in place as it had before and carefully readjusting himself slightly and sighing happily. |

For some reason the word ‘hermit-ing’ made Lilly giggle, probably only she would find it amusing. After her giggle she thought for a moment, hmming thoughtfully, carfully contemplating whether N’kar was right, “well, if we were around here I suppose, but there are some very very desolate places on Pern where we could be ‘outside hermits’. But I suppose we really couldn’t do that as we are needed here.” She thought some more, and considered a few other options but basically had ran out of ideas, hermit-ing just didn’t seem like a viable option, “you know, as much as I’d like to, I just don’t think it’s something we can pull off…” she let a saddened expression come to her face, but it only last a moment as she looked at N’kar, it almost instantly turned to a smile again. Lilly chuckled at N’kar, it was good to have someone to joke with and go and on with silly jokes, also the feeling safe and comfortable thing was nice too. She squeezed his hand lightly, and crinkled her nose smiling at him, “well, maybe I’d like you to stay … but I’m not admitting to anything else!” She listened curiously, and wished that Sirth would tell her reasons why, but alas she was always in the dark, she thought about the comment about people meaning to be social, she would hate to admit it but it seemed like a good ideology, the problem was it was JUST an ideal, people put together cause more problems than you could possibly think possible, she smiled though, at least he had a positive spin on human kind. “exceptions to the rule…I agree, there are some people who shouldn’t be anywhere near anyone…” she remembered a few people that had come though her town where her brother had to show them a boot, generally connected to his foot, going towards their rear end, as they had been vulgar and needed to leave early, her mother didn’t stand for rude people so it happened once in a while, and her brother being the guy he was they didn’t argue often. Lilly giggled as he seemed to be against the information of how spiders would taste, she might have to fake it and come up with something as a joke. Her mind came to a screeching halt almost like a record player being scratched off it record. She wasn’t normally something she would do, N’kar might be making her mind work in different ways, and Lilly really wasn’t used to it. She chuckled shaking her head, “no way, you get a full detailed description, you sort of asked for it.” Her confidence in herself was becoming more evident, it seemed like she was a totally difference person, now as long as no one else came by she would be fine, if they weren’t so lucky she would be reduced back to a quivering mess. She was distracted by the cooking comments by him asking her if he was keeping her, she looked up at him shocked looking, “No! I … that is … I … didn’t sleep well last night and its catching me,” she paused and thought for a moment and then after a second spoke again, but in a very low voice, just loud enough for N’kar to hear, and with a slight blushing, “But …if you leave …you’ll be keeping me from… something.” She clung onto his hand tightly refusing to let go for now, looking up at him with pleading looking, hoping he wouldn’t think he was keeping her from sleep. Sirth rolled her head slightly as if shaking it, but laying down, she thought Rhiunth pouting was so cute, but she figured, she would stop with the teasing for now …. For now. ’stop pouting, I’m not going anywhere, at least If I can get my way of things, and let’s face it,’ she peered over at her bonded and hummed happily, ’were going to be here for a while,’ she returned to ‘snuggling her big brown friend. ’no you can’t have me that way, for both of those reasons, I like being warm and filling the hole under your wing and you like having me here, its best of both worlds.’ Sirth agreed hummingly with Rhiunth, it was a great thing, if you asked her, about not knowing what was going to happen on any given day, as it made every day different and interesting. ’there is a valualble lesson here my dear. Being wrong isn’t always such a bad thing hmm?’ Being safe was generally a feeling most people enjoyed, so it would only make sense that Lilly felt good feeling safe as she was someone who really liked the feeling of it, she didn’t like the nervousness that her mind created, it wasn’t enjoyable, so when she found that she was so very comfortable around N’kar she wanted to expand that feeling more, she wasn’t sure what would work, but her first move seemed to be working for her. Yes she was safe. She nodded as N’kar he told her he was glad he could make her feel this way. She mumbled quietly, “I can’t… e-even explain w-why, I just know I am.” Her tones had quieted quiet considerably, but she was still making herself heard to N’kar. She was glad to hear he was ok with her moving onto him like that, she still sat there holding to his hand, smiling, her eyes closed, still slightly unbelieving that she has been so lucky. She gently caressed N’kars hand as she sat in his lap, she looked up at him as she was squeezed slightly opening her eyes smiling at him, “thank … you, N’kar.” She clung onto him and his hand now, not wanting to let go hoping it would last for a while longer. |

N'kar sighed softly. As pleasant as it sounded for the pair of them to become hermits and live someplace far from anywhere they could be bothered by other people, Lilly was right. They were both needed here, and this hermit-ing plan of theirs just wasn't very possible. "You're probably right. I can't imagine the weyr would be too fond of the idea of two riders just leaving to go live alone in some near-unaccessable place on Pern. I guess we're stuck here." He shrugged, laughing a little. "Besides, I don't think we would make it very far on our own like that if neither of us can cook." That wouldn't work well at all, he thought. It was probably better that they didn't starve to death. He squeezed her hand gently back, giving her a very-forced look of half disappointment and half triumph. "Well I guess that's a start! At least I know I actually AM wanted here!" His expression broke with laughter once again. Because her laying on him wasn't a sign that he was wanted. Nope, not at all. "Believe me, I completely agree with you. Rhiunth is obviously under a different impression of human kind though. He likes to think we're all better off like he is, trying to make friends with everybody." Though really, maybe the dragon had a point. Maybe if people were like him they would all be better off. Not, he knew, that that would ever happen. Still, it was a nice thought. "But that's pretty wishful thinking in my opinion. Some people just don't get along with other people." N'kar thought about it for a moment or so. He knew a handful of people that should never mix. Thankfully most of them were far from here so he didn't have to worry too much about it. N'kar contorted his face into a disgusted expression and stuck out his tongue at the thought. "Blech. There's no way I can convince you to spare a little detail here or there?" He joked. It wasn't like hearing in excrutiating detail what eating a spider was like would do much more than cause him to shiver, but it was the idea of the matter that he joked about. "Then again, at least I won't be the one actually EATING the thing." He grinned playfully. His brow furrowed a bit when Lilly responded to his question however. The relief, and a little embarrassed happiness. He hugged her again, a little longer this time as he was getting a little braver and a little less worried about his actions every minute and smiled warmly, understandingly. "Well then I guess I won't leave..." Rhiunth returned quickly to his content and happy humming and let their teasing go just as Sirth had, aparently deciding it was a good time to stop. He didn't complain about it. There would be plenty more times for that, and he was just as happy to talk seriously with Sirth as he was to joke and tease with her. He nuzzled her softly, still humming, then placed his head beside hers. 'It does seem that way, doesn't it?' The brown didn't even bother to spare a glance at the riders. He knew well enough what N'kar was thinking, and right now he didn't feel the need to watch him to confirm it. 'I do like it, very much.' he agreed almost lazily now, but far from sleep. 'And it's a lesson I'm glad to learn dear Sirth, especially when being wrong ends so well.' The fact that Lilly felt safe with N'kar was quite an astounding thing to the brownrider. He loved it, and for some reason beyond him he was absolutely thrilled that he could make her feel safe. He wasn't exactly sure what her hushed tones now meant, but he couldn't imagine it was a bad thing. Not after everything that led up to where they were now. "I don't need an explanation. Just knowing you feel safe with me is enough." He smiled down at Lilly, eyes still half closed. There was still the streak over embarrassment and uncertainty that was present in his mind, but it was fading the longer they remained there. He hoped they would remain there for a while longer too, and hopefully be uninterrupted. He ran his thumb lightly over her hand as she caressed his. This was all far from anything he had expected to happen today, but it was probably the best thing that he could have hoped for. |

Lilly sighed unhappily; unfortunately she would have to deal with people a little while longer darn, and STILL the problem remained that Sirth would still want to be social. Lilly gasped suddenly, “Hey! Maybe we could do it once thread has gone again, like … forever gone, we could do it then! When the Weyr no longer needs us, and … to appease the EVER sociality of our dragons it could be near somewhere but far enough away that people won’t bother us …!” she sat there with a look of victory, it seemed almost flawless plan, but would N’kar agree. Wait a minute. Lilly was planning her life waaaay ahead of her and it was planned WITH someone, N’kar must of affected Lilly more than she knew, because she wouldn’t of done this before … She giggled at N’kar, yeah she was more than glad that he was there, more then she would admit, but she truthfully was happy he was there, she shifted slightly but ended back where she was before, but hand moved her arms to go around him and squeezed him lightly. Oh yeah she wanted him there. Lilly agreed. Having the world trying to all be friends, would be a perfect scenario, but it just so unlikely that there wouldn’t be some kind of head butting. It was hard to get more than three to four people without that happening, as proof was shown in the tunnels this morning … ok so they hadn’t argued but it could of gotten their if they hadn’t left. “Maybe, we should be thankful for what we have, at least there are some people who can get along, and not EVERYONE fights.” She shook her head, she was going to tell, but in reality, she wasn’t really going to eat one, she was just carrying on for the fun of seeing N’kars face, and whatever expression he would give. “What if I lie and tell you there really good and you try one and there NOT though.” Lilly laughed more, she was enjoying this far too much, however, it was good to see her so happy. She grinned so happily when she was squeezed again and even more so when he said he wouldn’t leave, she didn’t say anything, but her face would be clue enough, she was defiantly glad he wasn’t going to leave yet, despite the blush on her face, it was painfully obvious that’s what she wanted. Sirth wondered if her playfully comment had been missed, but then again maybe it was time to bring the silliness down a notch, and be more of a subdued dragon, she enjoyed that as well, just laying there and snuggled under Rhiunth wing. She yawned lightly; she hadn’t realized she was tired till she had stopped trying being awake ’I don’t know why, but Lilly-mine makes me sleepy when she yawns, would you mind if I napped for a while while they be all, like us … over there?’ Her quieter tones were that of a relief that she could be safe and secure with herself around N’kar. And not needed to explain herself was a nice thing to, she would if she could, but she was glad that she could just sit there and enjoy the closeness she was feeling, and the safety. She sat there eyes closes rubbing his hands, and letting him rub her hand back. She was rather unsure of what to say or do now, but she figured either, it would figure itself out, or N’kar would say something to her, but the thought that sometimes the best things said, is silence, and might actually work out better for her right now. Still she felt that she should say something, but, as she sat there all she could think about was how happy she was and how much the rest of the world was so oblivious to her right now. Maybe she could follow suit with her dragon and take a nap, she was feeling slightly tired, but she also didn’t want to pass up the opportunity of being like she was. |

"Once thread is gone..." Now there was a thought! It almost sounded too good to be true though, with the Pass only just getting near. Who knew when, or if, thread would be eliminated permanently. It was an odd thought, being a rider in a Pern that wouldn't need you. Then again, maybe that would just be like an extended Interval. N'kar resigned to the idea that he wouldn't know until it happened. He liked Lilly's reasoning though. It seemed like she had it all planned out pretty well. In fact, it almost seemed like she had had the plan to become solitary herself for a while and had just adapted it to include someone else. He wouldn't ask though. That was pretty irrelevant to the conversation. He nodded finally then, agreeing with her. "I think that sounds like a pretty good plan. When thread's gone, we could definitely try it." He smiled down at her fondly as she squeezed him, unused to the feeling, but liking it all the same. Being thankful for what he had was something N'kar was more than happy to do. In his mind, he had a lot to be thankful for. He had Rhiunth, who he knew would always support him no matter what happened. And now he had Lilly. Whether she was friend or more than that, it didn't really matter at this point. Either way the rider was happy she was there, though he would prefer one outcome over the other, both meant a lot to him, a man who rarely made any kind of friendly connection. "That's true. I for one am glad I have the connections I have..." He looked down at Lilly a moment unconciously before continuing. "and hopefully those that DO fight have the sense to avoid each other to keep from causing trouble." He laughed, half joking, half serious. N'kar sighed as Lilly shook her head. Ah well, it had been worth a shot. He was pretty sure she was joking anyway. He was just playing along for the fun of it. "Well, you can go ahead and lie to me and SAY they're good, but for the record I wasn't really planning on trying one. Even if they do taste great, I still don't think I'd be very fond of the idea." He shuddered, laughing. He grinned down at her then, a big, happy thing of a smile that said that he was enjoying this as much as she was. He hadn't really wanted to leave much himself, but if he had been keeping Lilly down here when she would rather be asleep somewhere, he would let her go by all means. Rhiunth noticed Sirth's yawn and wondered, much like his rider, if he should let the green go. He had a feeling that she would rather he stay there though, so he decided against asking her. The brown was pretty wide awake himself. After he had woken N'kar up to go down to the tunnels, he had dozed off again. Or at least, partially dozed off. He had still been partially awake through the whole thing, mostly to keep an eye on his rider. Rhiunth watched Sirth fondly as she lay beneath his wing. 'Not at all. You're welcome to sleep under my wing as long as you'd like. I'm glad to have you here, awake or asleep.' As they sat there in silence, N'kar found himself wondering just what Lilly was thinking. It was odd, this feeling of closeness and comfort that he was feeling now, but he liked it. It was honestly probably one of the first times he had been involved in a silence that wasn't awkward. And it spoke too, the silence. It whispered words of happiness, closeness, and safety. He liked it, it was nice to be able to sit here with someone and enjoy their company without having to worry about what they thought of him or worry about looking stupid. In fact, if they didn't say another thing again until they had to leave, he wouldn't mind too much. Just the feeling of it all was enough. Slowly, he moved forward to rest his head gently atop hers and sighed happily. This was fantastic. Far from anything he had expected or even hoped for, but definitely about as fantastic as anything he had ever experienced. |

Lilly really believed that one day, Thread would be gone, after all, if someone had come up with dragons to flame it, eventually they would come up with a solution to make it gone forever, maybe it was just a childish fantasy though. But at the same time, if you didn’t have something you hopped to see one day, or if you didn’t have dreams, or hopes, what was the point in living. Lilly grinned at her new friend, agreeing with her it sounded like a good plan, “Yeah, I don’t really get many good ideas, but every once in a while I hit on something good…” She wondered if by connections, he was talking about that he was glad that he had her as a friend now, and more. She finally concluded that was what he was talking about, it made her feel all warm on the inside again, smiling softly for a change, as he looked down at her. She nodded in agreement, people who argue should just save themselves the trouble and stay away from one another, “why do people do that? If you know you don’t get along with someone why do you go and cause trouble… is it REALLY worth it?” she looked off to the end of nowhere with a slight confused look on her face, even though her head was still rested again N’kar. Lilly snickered lightly as N’kar shuddered again, she had pretty much got the reaction from him she wanted, she as being slightly evil, but enjoying it none the less. She had another one of those OH SHINY moments suddenly gasping, “what about crab legs! Have you had some of those? … Not a yuckie I know but I just thought about it … “ makes you wonder … spiders … crabs? Similarities … well they both have multiple legs and, well that’s about it really, how does Lilly come up with this stuff sometimes, she would understand if N’kar thought her weird. Sirth sighed happily humming sleepily, where else would she prefer to go to sleep? Well, maybe the same place but on a nice grassy plain, or by the ocean, or somewhere a little nicer then Galvalin Weyr, but she should just stop complaining and be happy that she had her brown to be with. ’hmm thank you dear’ she said sleepily, she really hadn’t realized she was tired until that moment, and small nap would be nice, seeing as there wasn’t anything going on this early in the Weyr, so there wasn’t anything the needed to be up for right at that moment. Lilly sat with eyes closed resting against N’kar, listening to the ambient noises of the Weyr, it was quiet as it was still very early, but it seemed like things were starting up for the day, it was nothing like her home, where people were up all hours of the night and the tiny village always had some form of noise, still comparatively it was quiet here, so quiet she swore she could hear a heartbeat, maybe hers, or even N’kars, whichever it was she wasn’t really bothered it really made it a little more peaceful. Suddenly Lilly jumped as she sat there, like something had scared her, she let out a rather small ‘ah!’ and as a reflex she buried her face into N’kars chest as if trying to hide from something, and grasping onto him and holding him close. After a second she realized that she was probably dreaming and had dozed off momentarily, this was embarrassing, she released him but still left her hands where they lay, and looked up at N’kar, blushing rosily, “uh… s-sorry? … I guess … I dozed off there for a m-moment,” she figured she should probably explain what had happened there as well, “I, didn’t mean t-to jump though, for a while now, I keep getting these, funny … d-dreams…” she was talking slightly afraid sounding, and as she talked she grasped a hold to N’kar more and more afraid she might be ripped away at any moment, if he asked for more, she would tell him, but she had stopped for now, and was more interested in trying to remember how safe she was feeling moments ago. |

Childish fantasy or not, if N'kar knew what Lilly was thinking he probably would have thought it was kind of sweet. It was good to have something to hope for, something to hold onto, and an end to Thread definitely wasn't a bad one. N'kar had always been a bit more duty-driven so the end of Thread was a little bit further than his hoping went, but he would have to admit that the end of Thread was a fantastic thing to hope for. Still found Lilly's hope rather cute. He chuckled lightly. "Good ideas are good ideas whether you have them often or not." he half teased. N'kar had indeed been refering to Lilly as that "connection" he had been talking about, but he hadn't gone so far as to explain that. Mostly it was because he was still a little afraid of going too far and undoing everything they had done so far. He meant every word he had said though. He was very glad to have her there. Shaking his head slowly, he looked off into the bowl again. "I have no idea. You would think people would try and keep from stirring up trouble like that, but I guess you can never really tell with people." But then, there were always the people that actually DID try and stay away from those that they didn't get along with. "Maybe they get entertainment out of it... For some reason." There was no problem with Lilly's slight evil streak that she seemed to have found. N'kar kind of liked the teasing. It was a nice change of pace from... just about any other conversation he was ever a part of, really. He looked at her a little confused at her change of subject. It was strange, but not that strange. "No, I'm afraid I haven't. Actually, living in the mountains we didn't really eat to much in the way of fish or ocean-type-things. It wasn't exactly easy to come by up there, you know? Are crab legs good?" It was almost a rhetorical question, seeing as he was pretty sure they were good. Why else would she be bringing it up otherwise? Still, he waited for her answer. He could always be wrong. Rhiunth matched Sirth's sigh, but remained awake. 'Of course.' There was little more for him to say. He didn't really want to disturb Sirth now. Instead, he settled himself down with the intention of staying where he was for quite some time. From here, he would keep an eye on their riders, though they hardly needed a babysitter. He didn't expect they would be disturbed by anything this early, but he could still watch over everything. N'kar was starting to feel tired as well, with sleep starting to tug on the edges of his awareness. He tried to fight off a yawn of his own, losing in the end. The quiet morning noises almost reminded him of his remote hiding places back in his old weyr. He fought the urge to doze off with Lilly, feeling that he should stay awake to make sure nothing happened, a lot like Rhiunth was. The only difference was that Rhiunth wasn't nodding off like he was. He had almost given up and allowed himself a moment or so of sleep when Lilly jumped and latched onto him. Startled, he jumped, almost losing his balance and eyes wide, searching for the reason for her sudden alertness. He wrapped his arms around her almost protectively, ignoring the fact that she was holding him closely and hiding in his chest. Well, ignoring or maybe not caring. It took him a moment to realise that what she was hiding fro had only been a dream. He relaxed his arms then, a bit embarrassed, but glad for some odd reason. He smiled comfortingly at her though. "No, it's ok, really." He held onto her tighter again as she increased her hold on him, hoping to comfort her. It seemed these dreams were bothering her. He hesitated a moment, not sure if he should ask more or not. She had stopped, afterall. In the end though, he decided he would ask. "What do you mean by 'funny'?" He hoped he wasn't overstepping his bounds, but he did want to help Lilly if he could. |

Lilly smiled, proud of herself, even if he were teasing, she didn’t care. Her good ideas weren’t normally good ideas, they were more of hopeful logic, but if you REALLY wanted to call them good ideas then she really wouldn’t complain. “I blame my lack of good ideas on Sirth, normally she has the good ideas and just relays them to me, that time though that was all Me.” she grinned, despite that she was admitting to something, and she regularly didn’t do that. Perhaps with time N’kar would realize that he probably shouldn’t worry so much, and that’s good advice to the two of them, the question is, who will tell them that … People and their warring, it’s just stupid, in Lillys mind, it was always more pleasurable to be on good terms with people, and why would they get entertainment from it, Lilly shook her head confused, sighing, “I’ll never understand it,” she glared at some random, thing, “wouldn’t… but … growl …” yes she said ‘growl’, after which she giggled blushing slightly. Lilly gasped quietly, “really? I guess it makes sense really; crabs don’t like mountains too much. Yes crabs are really good, you just have to be really carful, they can technically kill you, and I don’t mean with their pincers.” She took her hand that was closes to N’kar and lightly pinched him grinning at him after, as if to say, ‘you think that was me!?’ and then giggling lightly, “I guess, if you come with me home, I’ll send a message ahead of time and get mum to make us some.” She knew her mother would be happy to make them for her, something she wasn’t so sure on was her reaction to N’kar, not so much because she had someone, but because she HAD a friend period, she would probably cry the ocean into a overflow with tears of happiness. (SLEEPING DRAGONS R CUTE!) She appreciated N’kars comforting grasp, it was defiantly helpful, she smiled forgetting what she had seen, or at least trying to, why her brain came up with this it was beyond her, but it always seemed to be something that was re-occurring. She paused as she forced the memories of her dreams back into her mind to try and describe what happens, she sighed again, looked up at N’kar as she began to talk, but still gripped onto him quite firmly, “its, not funny, n-not, e-ever something, I-I’d wish on someone.” She paused as her eyes slowly watered but she fought it back, taking a gulp and continued, “when, I was still a Weyrlng, with Sirth, I had a … very cl-close call with Thread, it was falling upon our Weyr, obviously we were, meant to keep out of the way and out of trouble, b-but one of the Weyrlings, had an extremely curious and hyper dragon, she ran out into the falling thread to fi…” she pause, clinging back to N’kar, “I keep dreaming of that day, and watching her, go … away … and the noise from her rider,” she couldn’t help but let out a tear or two at the thought of the loss of the riders dragon, and a small sniffle, somewhat trying to cover it up slightly. She hadn’t ever explained this to anyone before, but of all the people on Pern, she was sure N’kar would understand somehow and just comfort her, and she didn’t know where that idea came from, it was just there for her to understand. |

"So you're dependent on her for your good ideas then, are you?" A faint and distant smile touched his features as he continued his teasing. If Lilly was doing things now that were unusual for herself, so was he. N'kar wasn't usually one to tease and joke as much as he was now. He was enjoying it though, it was definitely a good thing. "I'd have to think Rhiunth and I share the good ideas. He gets one, then I get one, then him again. Kind of like that. I forget who's turn it is now though." Because it really worked like that. Really. Whether or not he had a need to worry, N'kar would do so anyway. It was just how he was. Eventually he would get to a point where he wouldn't worry so much. With the way things were going, that time might even be not that far off. N'kar couldn't much see the sense in purposefully seeking out trouble either, but he supposed there wasn't much he could do. He shook his head indicating his understanding wasn't much more than hers on that subject. "I just don't get it either, Lilly." He raised an eyebrow at her, laughing curiously. "Growl?" N'kar laughed at Lilly's reaction. "Yes really. Where would we have found them?" He said, chuckling. "Unless there are some weird mountain crabs I've never heard of before." Wouldn't that have been a sight. N'kar tried to scowl down at Lilly as she pinched him, swatting playfully at her hand - and missing, of course. He laughed happily though. "I'd love to try them then, but I'm not so sure I like the idea of dying though. You have to assure me I won't wind up dead before I'm trying anything." He teased. He liked the sound of it though. They couldn't be that dangerous if Lilly liked them so much and was alive and talking to him now. The fun part would be meeting her family though. N'kar could just imagine himself and how stiff and formal he would be, at least in the beginning. He sighed, shaking his head and let the teasing drop from his voice a moment. "No, really though, that sounds great." Lilly's grip didn't lessen as she sat there trying to find words for her dream, N'kar guessed. He didn't relax his grip on her either. She hadn't fought against it and if for nothing else it made him feel like he was helping out. As she began to describe it, N'kar could see the pain it brought her. Almost entirely unconciously he began to stroke one of her shoulders with his hand, both encouraging and comforting as he listened silently to her story. His expression contorted into one of imagined pain and sadness at the thought of having to watch anyone - rider or dragon - lose their bonded partner. Thankfully he hadn't ever had to deal with it like that before, but he had heard enough stories to have some idea what it was like. That, and the thought of losing Rhiunth like that was enough to cause the man to choke. When she had finished, N'kar pulled Lilly into a protective embrace, not much caring anymore whether or not he should. "That's... awful! Why..." He stopped and shook his head, unable to find the right words. "That must have been horrible." He was speaking almost in a whisper now. From his place beside Sirth, Rhiunth lay watching the riders silently. He let his mind touch reassuringly on his rider's, and even chanced to go so far as to touch Lilly's momentarily before removing himself from their conversation once again. Dragons didn't often interact with riders other than their own like that, but Rhiunth felt Lilly could use it now. |
