They were both acutely aware of each other, yet unable to really do anything about it. The silence that stretched between them, she could tell, wasn't awkward, but it wasn't comfortable either. It was the sort of silence that came from the lack of sound, or in this case, the lack of communication. Something that wasn't any of their faults really, it was just a matter of circumstances and problems was all. Of course, it all started when Helitet decided to creep off after curfew again, wandering into the tunnels and them promptly getting herself lost in there. It wasn't really that hard to do that, the large network of caves being as vast as it was. Then, as the tunnels just got darker, she ran into another person. In the dim light, it was hard to tell just who it was, but the near mute candidate knew it was nobody that she knew. Short with shorter black hair, eyes glazed over and unfocused, the only thing Helitet could really tell was that they were a rider. A blind rider, as she had later found out when they had nearly walked into her just standing there. They were quite a pair, it seemed. A girl who couldn't really speak and a rider who couldn't see. Helitet kept her grip on the back of the rider's shirt, her eyes now starting to hurt. She couldn't tell if they were opened or closed anymore, being plunged into complete darkness now. And even with the heat from the rider's back on her hands, it still felt unnervingly lonely in this lack of sight, depending on the rider in front of her to guide them through the tunnels. The candidate had no idea where they were going, and she had no idea if the rider did either. Such a troublesome thing really. Why didn't she bring a glowbasket or something like that? |

Was it smart to try and sneak into the tunnels after curfew? No, probably not. The obvious reason being that if she happened to get caught she could lose her chance to stand in the hatching. That alone was pretty bad. Then on top of that there was the possibility that she could get lost. Living in tunnels was something Kyrri had yet to get used to, so getting lost was wasn't exactly unlikely. Yet still she had chosen to go off exploring. It probably had something to do with all the times she and her brother had run off on 'adventures' when she was younger. Either way, here she was. Lost. Just like she should have known she would be. At least she had thought to bring a glow. It was a dim glow, but it was better to have some light than none. The meek light cast itself over the rock walls confining her path as she went, sometimes collecting a scratch or two along the way. She had been at it for a while now, turning here and there until she was pretty much disoriented and had little idea of which direction she had come from. For all she knew, she could be headed back to the weyr. Until she popped back out into the bowl or some other place she might recognize. Yeah, this hadn't been her best idea. Another corner and the candidate was met with a noise. As far as she had gone she hadn't heard anything. For a moment, she panicked. Was she about to be caught? Part of her mind screamed to turn back and avoid getting herself into trouble. But... maybe investigating might be a good thing. It might even help her get out of these tunnels. Gathering her facade one more, Kyrri prepared for the worst and stepped out into the corridor she had heard the noise coming from. Her glow illuminated the pair she had stumbled upon, and for a moment she stood in the dim light trying to see who it was. The taller figure looked vaguely familiar but she couldn't quite place it. Then she saw Helitet, and relief washed over her. She broke into a grin. At least she wasn't alone now. "Helitet!" It was a loud whisper in the silence, but she didn't care. She was only glad to have found a familiar face in the darkness. |

They were actually making progress along the tunnels, and the rider seemed to keep Helitet's needs in mind. Occasionally, they would reach back, gripping the candidate's arm lightly and directly her right or left to avoid some obstacle or another they had just passed through. It seemed odd really, seeing as how they had a much easier time getting around than Helitet did. Though, she supposed that was to be expected. So when her arm was grabbed again, Helitet stopped noting that the rider had stopped too. The candidate wondered why, after all, she didn't... And there was a noise then, something from the tunnels ahead. And then light. Light and an all together familiar figure. Helitet grinned at her fellow candidate, grimacing slightly at the loud sound, she had, after all, been traveling in silence for a long time now, but grinning nonetheless. It was good to see Kyrri after all, good to be able to see in the first place. Now in the light however, Helitet thought she recognized the rider she was following around. Short black hair, those neutral colors and the entire gender confusion. Then it hit her and Helitet found herself feeling rather stupid over the entire situation. After all, as far as the near mute could tell, there was only one blind rider in this entire Weyr, so why didn't she simply recognize her? She struggled for a moment then, pressing her hand flat against V'tor's back as she tried to get her throat to work with her. Still, the Brownrider shook her head, releasing her grip on Helitet's arm and nodding in Kyrii's direction. So V'tor already knew who she was then, and that just made everything a little bit more awkward. So instead, Helitet cleared her head and turned back to her close friend instead. Her hand left V'tor's back and made a gesture that Helitet wasn't sure if Kyrri would recognize as the other candidate's name yet. 'Do you have any idea where we are?' was the question, though it was shortened to a 'any idea where'. V'tor was still silent, her head turning slightly as if to listen to something, or perhaps just the two of them. |

If Kyrri had been louder than she had needed to be in the silence that crowded the tunnel, she hadn't really noticed. It had been a while since the last time she and Helitet had made off on some adventure or another. Still, while or not, it was always good to see a friend. This was doubly true when you were wandering lost through a system of tunnels to who knows where and at who knows what time with little hope of finding your way back on your own. Actually, it was just good to see anyone under those circumstances. Kyrri stood illuminated in the light of her dimming glow, wide grin splayed across her face now as she watched her friend and fellow candidate's interaction with the other person she had been traveling with. She knew Helitet didn't speak often, and when she did she didn't say much, and as far as she knew, only Helitet's brothers understood her system of gestures that she used to communicate. This other person didn't look like any brother of hers that Kyrri had ever met, not to say that they weren't. In the time Kyrri had known her, the girl had managed to introduce her to a handful of her dragonrider relatives. She wouldn't be surprised if this just happened to be another of them. After another moment or so of that, Helitet let go of her companion and began gesturing to Kyrri. She had to strain her eyes a bit in the lack of light she carried with her, but she managed to make out ther question. "Where are we?" Kyrri had a habit of repeating these things aloud it seemed, probably more for her own benefit to help her remember than anything else, but also because if she misunderstood something Helitet could correct her. Still, understanding what her friend was asking didn't do her much good if she didn't know the answer. The girl shook her head, looking down toward the floor of the cave a moment. "No, I don't have a clue actually. I'm afraid I'm pretty lost down here." She let out a small laugh, more at her own stupidity than anything else. "I was kind of hoping you might know." A little embarrassed half smile and Kyrri strode over to join the pair. "You don't mind if I go with you then?" It was more a staement than a question, but Kyrri wasn't about to go on wandering alone again now that she knew someone else was down here. Moving closer, the glow came to cast more of itself over the third person there, and with a better look at them Kyrri's eyes widened in surprise. Yes, now she knew who it was. She had run into V'tor once before, with Helitet of all people. It made her wonder just how the pair of them had ended up together here, one unable to speak except through movement and the other unable to see. |

V'tor merely just stood there, listening to the pair as the best she could. Or at least, listened as much as she could. She couldn't hear hand movements after all. The slight rustling of clothes yes, but that hardly helped with trying to communicate with a candidate who probably communicated through something that she couldn't hear. Cross that. Did communicate through something that she couldn't hear. Still, as Kyrri repeated Helietet's question and then spoke her own answer, she felt a smile tugging slightly upon the edge of her lips. So they were all a little bit lost then. Well, maybe not for long. The Brownrider was starting to get a certain understanding of the tunnels now. Here, there, the dripping of water occasionally. She had an idea of how to get out, though with the many entrances and exists that this system had, she had no idea where they would end up at when they did get out. But it was better than being stuck down here. Helitet meanwhile, shook her head, indicated that she didn't mind if Kyrri came with them at all. In fact, it was probably better that way. She looked over at V'tor for the rider's response, but V'tor seemed a little bit preoccupied, turning her head slightly and listening one noise or another. "Follow me," was what the Brownrider said after a moment, "And don't be disturbed by any shuffling sounds. It seems that even in the Western Continent, there are tunnelsnakes still. Still, they probably won't come near us with light. Which... I assume you have?" Helitet blinked, grabbing the back of V'tor's shirt again and shooting Kyrri a worried look. She had no idea where V'tor was leading them honestly, still, the rider seemed to know these tunnels better than the two of them right now. |
