The Banshee was a freakin' BEAST.

That is all I can contribute right now as far as episode discussion. Sleepy time~

Samuel j. Houston on a bicycle, after the last twenty episodes of mediocre Gundam AGE this was a breath of fresh air I sorely needed.

ANYWAY, YOU KNOW WHAT ROCKS MY WORLD ABOUT THIS EP?! They made Ashimars, the ugliest frakking MS next to the Baund Docs, from Zeta actually look cool. But what makes me mad is that they gave the name of General Revil to a ship that was probably used by the Titans to kill babies. :D

Bright is the Zeus of the anime captain pantheon, yes?

And speaking of the current TV show, do you guys think that AGE would have as many UC references in it if Unicorn was already finished?

Also, I still do not understand Riddhe being attracted to Mineva. Someone to be explaining for to me?

And what accent did that guy have at the start of the episode?

After how mediocre-to-terrible episodes 2, 3, and 4 were this was surprisingly inoffensive...up until the last few minutes pissed away any good will I might have had.

It was neat to see that even with the formation of Londo Bell, the AEUG and Karaba folks are still willing to act when they know the Federation is doing something wrong. That sad I can't really get excited for 30 second cameos from old characters; if you want me to care, Sunrise, then you need to do more than that.

What was with the art, though? The Mobile Suits went off model pretty frequently, with the Unicorn turning into a white blob a few times.

I believe the General Revil is a recently-produced Dogosse Gier-class vessel. And really, we need more of them; it and the Alexandria-class are the two coolest ships in the UC.

Audrey's the tragic scion of a infamous political family trying to escape the destiny forced upon her by her name. He can relate to that quite well, plus he thinks she's pretty hot.

This is my Gundam face.
Yeah, this ep pretty much lost me at 'Rozen Zulu decimates a ton of Special Forces ReZELs by itself'.

Riddhe and Delta Plus both getting their shit ruined was worth some delicious schadenfreude at least.

Calling it a battle is a bit of a joke, even. I think it would've taken MORE subtlety to have someone shout "PLEASE BUY OUR ROZEN ZULU MODEL KIT". It's disgusting, but not especially surprising in this pathetic Zeon wankfest.

I enjoyed the episode well enough, but something in particular bothered me:

Did I just miss something, and I'm making a big deal out of nothing?

a big improvement over episode 4, which expected pathos without evoking it.

Martha is so deliciously evil.

i was expecting ridiculously more out of the Banshee than what i got. and, for that matter, the Delta Plus, whose only contribution to Unicorn has been to carry Banagher around for a little at Torrington and then get defiled by the Banshee. maybe it'll do more now that apparently Riddhe gets a hold of it.

then again, i guess that's a nice metaphor for Riddhe's character. i hope i'm not supposed to be feeling sorry for him, because i'm not really seeing the thinking that leads him from "oh god my family is responsible for everything that's wrong with the world" to "imma let you finish imma let you finish but come with me and defend the status quo!"

on the other hand, damn Mineva, you really know how to reject a guy

i like how Unicorn has used Bright so far, by remembering that there's more to his character than just the dispensing of corporal punishment. he comes off as a man who actually has seen it all, which is exactly how he should come off, so once again another angsty teenager in a Gundam falls into his lap and he's all "chill out everyone i got this." on the other hand, seeing as how Kai was one of my favorites from Mobile Suit Gundam, i'm moderately annoyed that after all the hype of bringing him back it was just for a thirty-second cameo.

and, for that matter, i kinda liked how the Tri-Stars and the Londo Bell crew stepped in to let Bright have his little powwow with Banagher. damn straight Bright's the captain 'round here.

i do so look back fondly on the first two episodes of Unicorn, when everyone was creaming themselves because of "competent grunts." now here we are in episode 5 and the grunts' helpless immobility and meaningless deaths may be animated better but they're still helplessly immobile and meaninglessly dying and it's led people into hilariously impossible contortions trying to defend it and it's just great.

speaking of which, i do like that Unicorn is, unlike so many other UC Gundam productions, tackling the question of Newtypes head-on. partly because it's a part of the franchise you can't really ignore and partly because it's forced the fans into more of those cognitive contortions i do so enjoy. i just can't really tell where they're going with it, since it's also calling back to some of the weirder aspects of Newtypes.

oh god, Angelo is back. couldn't he have choked on a chicken bone somewhere off-screen or something? the Sleeves have other pilots.

I lost 15 euros because of this episode. I was positive Marida would die, but nooo, they just postponed it for the last episode.
Well, at least I'll get 25 euros now >:)
