Not me this time but my mate and his brother.

They both went up to our lease in the Borders for the weekend. Started off well with on the firts morning my mate grassing a mature buck which has eluded him for a good while. Before evening stalk he started to feel very unwell and from then on was pretty much out of action with food poisoniong/ or virus.

His brother shot a buck that evening, dropped to shot, kicked, raised its head slightly then lowered it back down and laid motionless and to all appearances was quite dead. He gave it five minutes, to then see it stand up and walk off into the forestry, blood running down its shoulder! Pins, flesh and some bone at impact site, visible blood stopped at the tree line, two dogs, one an experienced deer dog and the other a young BMH hunted hard but could not make anything of it. Spent most of next morning looking aswell but with no sign of the buck.

Final morning, open the door of the caravan to let the dogs out for a pee when the Bavarian nearly stands on an Adder at the bottom step from the 'van. The adder clearly strikes at the dog so there then follows a panic as they think the dog has been bit by the snake! Luckily on close inspection the dog unharmed and everthing finished okay.

And to cap it all the midges are starting to come out to play!!

Stay home.. It's safer, bad luck to your mate with the lost buck, thats a bummer.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? ....... He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Its like a scene from a horror movie. Things could have been far worse with the buck, thats a good example of why they reccomment you test for a blink reaction with sticks.

Bad luck mate,a friend of mine told me that a friend of hers was in the New Forest and an adder struck her JRT in the face, and 2 days later it died a very painful death,so your BMH was very lucky indeed
