After leaving my house this morning at 03.35 and after getting back in last night at 23.20 my pillow was barely warmed.
We arrived on the ground about 04.00 it was just nicely light.
We set off to stalk around some large wold corn fields and saw plenty of trade from the recent rain but no deer not even any does.
The wind was still N.E and it was chilly.
After about a mile the sun was well up and the day began to warm.
We looked into a small dale and immediately saw a very large buck walking away from us.
We waited to see if anything else moved......It didn't so we went to the far end skirting around to avoid stinking out the area.
We sat down near where the buck was last seen.
And waited for the morning to unfold before us.

After 3/4's of an hour I decided to go have a look for the buck.

So we walked down into the dale with the wind behind to get right for a return stalk.
On reaching the end I looked into the wheat field and couldn't believe my eyes 60M's off there he was just going into a tram line and he began to walk towards us.
Readying the sticks and rushing the camera I new we would be lucky to get a shot with the standing crop and he WAS down wind though in the bottom there wasn't much.
He did wind us but we were ready. The range checked afterwards 48 yards.
Neck shot I told my client.

The rest is history...

Haven't seen him for months Steve.
Think he is borderline bronze probably not quite...If he is, he's been a cheap 1, and I've misjudged him and am out of pocket.....

Good buck and a fine set of aerials. Bearing in mind what has been judged "Bronze" in the past I think you might be surprised.

Looks a big lad John, well done again.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? ....... He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Yes I think so Karl but its nice to reassure the shot.
I think I may have shot a medal at my loss though, but hey sh*t happens.

Slim, chances are what you saw could be a bull, did it have a ring through its nose, cos it were a deer it would have had antlers on its head not HORNS,haha!
