I dont seem to be having much luck with my traps at the mo.
I bought them online a few weeks ago, kept 3 for my self and gave one too one of the managers in work who wanted to try on the squirrels.
So far he has had 8 squizzers and rubbing the salt in the wounds as I have failed to catch a bloody cold.
I was wondering if the treadle plate is to hard to set off for the rats.
Is there anyone who has had to adjust them before, and can you explain how to adjust them.

Just set them very light on the brass bit, make sure that you keep the bloody safety catch on whilst you test it. What bait are you using? I find that digestive biscuit works well or even a snickers bar, well half of one. Good luck.

edit.. Forgot to mention, use a rubber band to keep the bait on the trap so that they have to tug at it! *Monkey Hanger*

Well I filed the glib down abit, and set it lightly as possible.
Set up in the tunnels I made, and sprinkled a little mixed corn in the tunnel and a little on the treadle.
Fair play let the Bedlingtons out for a run at 5:30 this morning, straight to the tunnel and started to get at the trap.
And here was this mornings catch..

There are more about and the bug**rs have been getting a bit trap shy, so Thought I would have another trick up my sleeve and try the good old fenns..

Always set the trap to close across the tunnel this will grab the rats across the shoulders. If you set them to work along the tunnel direction as the rat reaches over the first jaw it can be lifted up and out of the closing jaws. personally I have never baited a Fenn trap, I have always positioned them along a wall or pen side however baiting can only increase your chances. Always use the safety catch and only remove it with a stick, lastly you would be well advised to wear gloves when handling & setting Fenn traps as I'm sure DM will testify.

I only bait for squirrels if the trap is in a box up a tree.
On a run should be enough.
