Well i finally found a couple of hours to get out this evening. The wind was in the wrong direction for the wood I wanted to stalk so I had to take the long way round. I made it into the wood I wanted to stalk after a 30 minute walk, but it was deathly quiet when i got in. Once I'd made the first 10 yds in I decided to stand and wait for half an hour in a good clear area always frequented by deer. After about 20 mins I heard a fiep / squeak like noise a bit further down the wood, which was immediately followed by a buck standing up 14 paces to my left. He was behind a couple of branches and was starting to fray and scrape almost straight away. He worked his way forward onto the path that circles the inside of the wood and he was now walking straight towards me. I gave him a quick whistle and he soon stopped, head up. Having no other shot available I placed the cross hairs just above his eyes and pulled the trigger. Knowing the shot would be low the shot went straight between his eyes and out the other side. Not a bad evening really, just a long walk back to the truck ! ![]() |

Strange looking set of sticks on his head. |
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? ....... He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Not that unusual on my patch actually, it does produce the stereotypical 4 and 6 pointers (in small size) but also some strange ones like this. Have had a few very straight 'murder' bucks off the same area in the past as well. |
