Out last night on a permission right on the East Yorks South Yorks border. After a steady stalk downwind I started to come back into the wind and was glassing an uncut pea field when I spied a doe and then a buck hot on her tail. To cut a longish story short I made up the 600 plus yards without being seen as the two deer were now in the ajoining wheat field. I Settled down on the bipod and waited just five minutes for first the doe to cross back to the peas followed by the buck. He paused briefly on the farm track. A quick snap shot to the base of the neck as soon as he came into the crosshairs and down he went. 160 paces later and Bear and I were at our prize. Another big bodied mature beast with a carcass weight of 45lbs. Very similiar to the one I shot off this same farm about a year ago. A very rewarding and exciting stalk and the earliest I have seen roe rutting in my area. |

Nice looking animal there, Fallowmoor. Would that area be around the M62/M18 area? I see loads of deer around that area. |

Location :- Hull Never hit a man with glasses. Hit him with a baseball bat! Don't let your mind wander - it's too little to be let out alone! | |

Well done Steve still nothing here just single does. Started cutting rape locally yesterday so will be interesting to see what turns up now. Shot at 2 foxes at dusk yesterday evening on a rape stubble and both ran off unscathed the bullet breaking up on the long stubble before impact. Will take the rem mag this evening and see if I can bully a 175gr through it. Start stalking again from the morning and out a.m and p.m till mid august so will keep you all posted. |

I was out this morning, cold and damp, no activity seen but I shot a six pointer which was tight next to a doe and my brother also had a seven pointer which was also tight on a doe. The jammy sod also got a four point yearling, which was the only deer we saw between us which was moving. The forestry man on the estate reckons he found a roe ring yesterday. We left with the instruction to come back asap and shoot some more No response at all to the call. Edited by mudman, 28th July 2010 - 04:42 PM.

I went out this evening up into forestry and thought I'd give it go at calling I had no intrest what so ever so I had a walk round I saw 2 young deer just jumping about but they soon vanished into the wood floor so aprox 9.30pm I headed back to the car and a 6pt'er walked out onto a track 75yrds to my left and started walking away from me so I gave him a whistle and he presented a nice clean neck shot down he went and when I got to him no movement, stone dead! Pics to follow

Nice 1 Karl sods law isnt it just when you think there is nothing about 1 appears at the last minute. When I was stalking Does in Scotland another lad I was stalking with told us he was walking back to meet us at the pick up point, he had unloaded his rifle and was just coming back onto the track when a doe was stood at the end looking at him no more than 20ft away and it was stood more than long enough but as he had no round in he had to watch it run off DOH Lesson learnt- Always expect the unexpected

Just come in from taking the feeders and drinkers down to the wood. Saw a buck giving a doe alot of attention nose to &rse as she zig zagged her way down a setaside strip, not a full on chase but not far off. Only 100 yards off the car, could see the buck licking his nose to capture the scent from the doe, he seemed more interested than her. I saw what I guess was the same doe last night but she was on her own. |

still no rut but called in a buck last night which was missed at 35m's and max called a pricket in this morning which was missed and then shot. all does with followers. the excuses are our heavy triggers (both sakos set at 2lb) (they should try a standard remmy then) guess the germans are used to "set" triggers

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? ....... He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
