whats the best way to rid these things? i have 2 living under my shed and cant seem to trap them at all. using a live trap with no effect also 2 snap traps which they also dont show interest in. whats the best bait to use? im using cooked meats, chocolate tied down using fine bait elastic.
in the past when they have moved in ive shot them, had one in the snap trap, 2 in the live trap.
but these latest 2 aint falling for any of it!
any ideas?

Hi m8, i shoot a few rats that breed under the shed in my garden too, what i do is bait them for about 5-6 days, useing choclate, catfood and sweetcorn.
after baiting them, you can start shooting them, now is the best time as they have trust with there suroundings and know where your bait is, sit and wait for them to arrive, shouldnt take to long after dark.
Always wait for the first one to come out, the adult rats seem to tell the youngters to go out first, (make sure coast is clear)
so by leaving this first small young rat, it means he will take some bait, take it back to the others and tell them all is clear. so youle get them come out thinking coast is clear then you drop the second one.
then without the other rats relizing hes dead, they will come out still thinking all is good.
hope this helps m8. atb lee...... :D

fen traps are brilliant, you have to put them in rat runs, not to be baited. ;)

i agree with everythign lee says on this subjects what hes said is exactly the same as how i would go abotu the task. i find it best shooting rats at night with a lamp and a red filter but depending on how cautious the rats are of humans you sometimes get ones that are out in the day time and dont get fussed by humans at all,in that case take em whilst its light makes your job easier to see them and they dont get spooked by the lamp :)

The first time i had rats in my garden i put the ferrets under whilst my mates 2 terriers waited for fleeing rodents, only 2 came out, 1 ecaped through a hole in the fence and the other was caught by the terrier.
And the next day a had one caught in my live trap!

But i love to sit and wait for them to show themselves whilst ive the hw90
in my hand. mad::

yea dog food seems to work well aswell, generally i thin its anythign that smells,ut its best if you liquadise it as then the rat has to sit there and lick it up rather than grabbing it and runing off

I've had rats under sheds/chickens before and I have dug under to find the nest and removed all food- say for birds, compost heap veg etc and we got rid of them.

The problem is if you are near a rat infested area, you will have more. Often you could have say chickens and they seam to be eating up all of their food with no tell tale sign of rats - if all the food scrap is gone - you have rats.

best bait is to liquidate cat food coz they will sit and eat where as lumps of food can be carried off liquid cant so you have more time to shoot
If the rabbits are out gimme a shout
