Hi Tim, with this been quite a new forum, i dont think we have any members yet who come from as far away as yourself, so there might not be much help in finding hunting locations in NZ, but stick around and we would love to know a bit of the different styles of hunting that you do.

Neil :)

Hello "century boy" Tim and welcome to HW. *cheers*
Firstly how much shooting have you done? Are you a member of any shooting organisations such as our BASC? These things can have a direct bearing on how potential landowners percieve you and your reliability and safety. If you have some experience and insurance through a shooting organisation you will need to approach private landowners such as farmers, estate owners, golf clubs etc. When it comes to shooting people are very concerned - and rightly - about safety. Previous experience can reinforce you are safe with a gun in your hands but you will still need to assure prospective shoot owners you are totally responsible for your own actions, hence you do need insurance. Our BASC covers members for third party risk to £5,000,000.
I would think NZ must have rabbit problems the same as the UK does, talk to ground staff or gardeners before approaching the decision makers. If allowing you to shoot looks like a good idea with real benefits you will be in, but you need to find out what damage the rabbits are doing. If you don't get permission straight away, don't give up. I tried to shoot for about three years on one of my golf clubs but it was a DEFRA directive to cull grey squirrels Jan this year which tipped the balance in my favour.
Keep us informed as to how you get on.
