"Mike we've got some new shooting" I said "So have I" was the unexpected reply. Now Hawkeye needs new shooting about as much as the Arabs need just a bit more sand. The farms he shoots over are vast. He followed up with "I'm shooting it tonight with rimmy do you want to join me?" Well do big dogs sh1t on the pavement ? - of course I did. I drove over to Hawkeye's for 9.30pm only to find we were going to drive virtually past my house on our journey - DOH !! The farm was about 30 minutes away and was growing cereals plus rape. Not all the fields had been harvested but the four very large fields we were going to shoot had and were now stubble. Haweye's 4x4 made a hell of a racket on the stiff rape stubble so we kept to the existing farmer's tracks through each field. We cruised the fields slowly Hawkeye driving and sweeping the fields with a lamp which wouldn't have looked out of place in an AAA battery. I was in the co-pilots chair (yes I do know it's the other way round in a aircraft) with the Ruger 77/22 pointing out of the open window. The stubble was quite high in places sometimes over 1ft (30cm Jamie) tall which gave the rabbits a lot of cover. Plus because the stubble was light brown it camouflaged the cowering conies making things far harder than when shooing on grass. We saw fewer rabbits than we both expected - I think a drop of rain would certainly help to coax them out. However we shot 9 and would you believe it Hawkeye never shot a thing !! I wish I could reveal he missed everything but that wasn't the case, he very generously offered to do all the driving - what a hero !! The conditions contributed to the fact my shooting wasn't quite up to standard with 18 shots for the 9 bunnies. There were two notable shots though with the rabbits taken when they were " appreciably moving". (A much-debated adjective) So before a certain person adds to this post with malicious untruths, the rabbits were not at snail race pace or snail going home from a race in a roundabout route after a few beers pace or anything to do with snails. I'm glad we've cleared that one up. We finished the night gutting the rabbits, not before the said certain person again took the p1ss for me wearing surgical gloves (the old Irish pack of five Durex). However guess who wore a second spare pair I had brought ?? It was an enjoyable sesh though - thanks again Hawkeye *good* photopro |

Glad you enjoyed it Brian by the way the fields we shot there were 4 rape stubble and 2 barley stubble. Not as many bunnies about as the farmer had said according to him he was infested in the buggers. We also saw 1 charlie that as we drove into a field he ran out didnt need to worry photopro was doing the shooting he would of missed. I had my HMR with me on the back seat incase we got a shot at him but to know avail. He said he was here for 9-30 nearer to 10pm got to put him right on the facts.  He moaned because we drove past his house but bloody hell he was getting driven round all night and i even picked up the odd rabbit he shot (few and far between) I was useing Monkey Hangers lightforce lamp dont forget Brian next time you see him tell him its a load of shite and he might forget to ask for it back. :P :P :P By the way Brian just cleaned the motor out do you know anyone that is interested id buying brass i have a load of empty cases. For got to add lads we shot till about 2am and he never put his GLOVES on how about that then his delicate lillywhite hands were subjected to fresh air till it was to to start gutting. Then we both wore surgical gloves. I ask myself why does he carry so many pairs of them does he work for the police doing body searches in his spare time. All piss takeing aside i enjoyed your company Brian seeing you shoot and miss so many makes me feel like a real Hawkeye.

Nicely put! :o I have to admit it, I also wear gloves when gutting rabbits . No point getting blood all over your motor when you drive home from your shoot is there? When they're only a couple of pence a pair it would be silly not to.
:P Take the p1ss all you want, you know it makes sense........Well done guys

Absolutely *good* but in addition think about this: Where are your hands when you take a picture? Yep near your hooter !! I take hundreds of photographs in a week so each one not so subtly tinged with "Au de Coney colon". Hawkeye's hands are like a pair of shovels - he's only jealous really. :P photopro |

I forgot to add the so called 2 rabbits he shot that were moving..... they were moving so slowly it was actually debateable as to wheather or not they were moving. :D :D :D :D I noticed that there was no comment from photopro about the real reason for his surgical gloves.  Still think he does body searches in his spare time for the FUZZ
