So golf course number four OK'd our bunnicide activities and needed "the treatment". "Mr Compliment" sorry that should have read "missed a compliment" Hawkeye was the usually sparring partner - him being the other "permissionee" so to speak. He's just purchased a lighting rig which wouldn't look out of place amongst the gear used by the Flight Calibration Service (Aircraft landing systems). This attaches to his car with suction cups and is 360 viewing, remote on / off and dimming. I thought we may be in for a good session as the ground hadn't been shot for a very long time - since it was farm land in fact. I was using the stainless steel Ruger (moderated) and Hawkeye an Anschutz (moderated) both in 0.22 - subsonic ammo. I don't know this course, Hawkeye had been on twice. This is very significant since the river Tees is an intrinsic part of the course plus it is put together round a deep quarry. I could see the potential newspaper headline: "Local photographer and n'er-do-well accomplice found dead in river / quarry" Not an attractive proposition. Anyway the hilliness of the course made for some good rabbity areas and it wasn't long before I had completely missed the first two easy shots. I had better buck my ideas up or suffer a bad forum lashing (as if anything makes a difference to that !) Hawkeye took the next rabbit and I was amazed at how quiet the Anshutz was. If you held a piece of paper tightly over a cup and then pushed a sharp pencil into it that is about the level and noise it makes. Mine by comparison sounded like high velocity ammo which it wasn't. We slowly made our way round the course with rabbits appearing regularly, thankfully my ability had also put in an appearance and I was dropping Coney like a cheap tart's draws. Once or twice we both hit rabbits but it appeared as though we had missed, we had actually shot right through the target with the victim usually falling after a short run. One such rabbit was shot and the bullet hit a metal gate behind it - good thing it wasn't HV ammo !!We did three laps of the course and were at one point quite close to a large hole on a bank side - what was that newspaper headline again ? It was around midnight and fearing Hawkeye might turn into a pumpkin we decided to call it a day and do a bit of "inside outing". We – sorry – I, lifted the heavy weight of rabbits out of the 4x4 and dug out the gloves. Now at this point members of “HunterWorld.co.uk” cast your minds back to the shed full of flack I got for carrying and using surgical rubber gloves to gut rabbits. Who did it come from ? So who do you think had at least 200 pairs of said gloves in his car ? Yep Hawk-bloody-eye !!! We had a count up of the collected rabbits and I think it was either 15 or 17 and there would be certainly 10 more which escaped shot or I dumped for the fox - which incidentally we saw mooching about and could have shot ten times over. I always gut rabbits with a careful use of the knife, my old game keeper father-in-law would have bollocked me if I just ripped it through the guts so I am very careful. The quality of the rabbits was excellent so I kept two for a friend and Hawkeye took the rest to the game dealer. A good few hours work, very handy being almost on the door step and ready to shoot again in a couple of weeks. The job's a good 'un !! *good* photopro |

Nice shooting chaps, I like it when you two go out shooting, its the funny storys that follow that i look forward to. |

Tell you what Neil they dont half take some thinking up especially for Photopro     And as for the gloves he's wrong again there are only 40 pairs *jerk* *jerk* And as for him lifting the heavy box out of MY 4X4 we have yet to use his. I do the driveing ........i do the lamping ..........he does the shooting most of the time and i only get the odd shot. So i think its only fair the lazy bugger does something dont you agree. Surprised he hast complained yet that he is the one to get out of the motor to pick the up after they have been shot.

Nah !! I was a bit busy otherwise it would have been up sooner - actually if I hadn't been busy I'd have been shooting pigeons with you !! (as you well know F.S.S. !) So next time we put the AAA search light on the Freelander (wife's not mine) then you won't whinge - yeah right !! Don't forget when this happens it'll be interesting seeing you get in and out to retrieve the kills - as if !! Regarding the gloves I think he is retailing them now, Hawkeye "Gloves-R-Us" photopro (forum ace yarn spinner) *good* -Ass- |
