Lamping; The big night out

3 of us headed along the East Coast tonight for a spot of lamping, armed with a 20g o/u beretta, a Theoban rapid 7 (f.a.c) 35 ft lbs and the old faithfull HW90, so feeling a bit underpowered against these big boys, the HW90 stayed in the bag  .
We were going on some 80 acres of wheat stubble, dry with quite a strong coastal wind sweeping across the fields and the moment we pulled on the first field, we knew this could be a good night. The rabbits were out in there dozens,so we decided to park the jeep up and walk the edges against the headgerows knowing that the rabbits dont seem to venture to far away from these. It paid off. Almost straight away we lamp our first rabbit, or "I" lamp it, no gun now, im on lamp duty :( Out comes the Rapid 7 and drops the rab on the spot. This is the first time id ever seen a Rapid 7 in action, and im amazed at the power and just how silent this rifle was.
The other rabs seemed undisturbed by the shots, thus enabling us to carry on dropping just about every rabbit we saw on our first length of the field. Well after the first walk of one field, we had 11 rabbits, then it starts to rain slightly so we headed off back to the jeep, Mr rapid doesnt like the rain *jerk* .
Then out comes the 20g, we drive the other fields, but now the rabbits are running away from us, And with me behind the trigger, brings us another 5 rabs, and then i drive and my mate shoots 4 more.
So after about 3 hours, we have 20 decent sized rabs but the HW90 still aint "drew blood", so once the Real guns had been put away, i gets the 90 out and as were driving back towards the road, im in the back scanning the lamp across the field when i see's a rabbit crouched down trying its best to hide from us "STOP!!" its my chance to show my skill :D Cross hares on head, pull trigger, "Crack!" down she goes in a fit of kicks.
I ran across to gather it up only to realise, It was a young hare, About as big as a fully grown rabbit, I have a game licence so theres no problems there, but this one was mine to keep :D The rabbits going to the butchers the next morning so i was pleased i had a "trophey" to take home with me.
The most annoying thing about it was, i left the camera at home so it was up to me to take a shot of the hare when i got back.
And here it is!

A great night out and im now of to look for a recipe for jugged hare :D
The fields are getting ploughed this week so we might get one more night at these, i really hope so! *cheers*

Sounds like a good sesh. Did you get a shot with the Rapid? I didn't realise you hadn't seen one in action - they certainly do the business. As I've said mine is at 43ft/lbs Dr Spin's around 50ft/lbs - for an air weapon - incredible.

Regarding the hare, you must have had this before but remember cloves are over poweringly strong, not too many if any. *vomit*

No, i never got to fire the Rapid "you need a Section one to fire this *jerk* The owner kept saying, like im going to kill someone, i never really knew this guy much so i just nodded and pulled this funny face that left him feeling slightly embaressed.
Maybe one day ill own one, i was really impressed by it and i can see why you guys are too.

Well you know what you have to do then don't you? You already have the shotgun certificate, why not apply for the section one?
Most people don't realise you can carry "slots" - permission already granted - for weapons through to a renewal without it being implimented. So for arguments sake you may have the S1 for a 0.22 rimfire (£150 - £200 s/hand) but have the permission slots for a HMR and an S1 air weapon, but not buy them for years.

Ill be honest, I've never really been interested in Rim fires ect, the 12g was good enough for the hunting i do and its only the odd time that a rim fire would be handy were we shoot.
I like them, Me and Mark (win22) used to go to a club and shoot all sorts of rifles, i really enjoyed it but i still never had that "I gotta own one" bug.
But its something im going to look at now, even if i never use it much, its there if i need it. **sniper**

If you get yourself a 0.22 rimfire you will soon realise that for some shooting it is very hard to beat.
They are accurate (well some of us are / aren't - no names mentioned HAW HAW HAW), they can be silenced to a whisper, the ammo is fairly cheap, and they kill clean.

Try to shoot a crow in flight, forget it, but a lamped rabbit at night - devastating.

Go on Neil you know you want to.

Neil,
Sounds like a great evening hunt *good* I'm finally starting to understand English {I speak American}lol Lamp is a light that lights up the inside of your home here. Lamping {eng} spotlighting {amer} Fag {eng} cigarett {amer} meter {eng} 2/3 yard {amer} I'll catch on.....slowly most likley.

Looks like a souped up Ruger 10/22 Win is shootin there. Two 50 round bannana clips, flash hider, custom synthetic stock, spotlight, and a 3x9 scope....how did I do Win22? I have 2 10/22's...but they are sporterized for sporter rifle league....trigger kit and 10x17 scopes.

Well Hunter you convinced me - I certainly don't doubt you know your firearms !!

New section: "Teaching Hunter English"

A metre is slightly longer than a yard by about 4 inches.

Fag = Cigarette but most of us wouldn't want to put either version in our mouths !!
Tap = Faucet but can also mean to borrow i.e. "I tapped Hawkeye for $10" (fat chance !!)
Fanny probably the the most well known Americanism
Fanny = Female genitalia, hence a kick up the fanny is most definitely not a kick up the butt
Butt = Cigarette end or stub. So "I kicked some butt" is effectively, "I kicked some cigarette end" Stalone will never be the same.
French fries = Chips, served with fish. The French don't deserve anything naming after them. Unless maybe they could rename a white flag. i.e. " We were hopelessly over powered so the only thing we could do was wave a French" this would be quite acceptable.
Round-a-bout a traffic control device ressembling an "island" in the road. Replaces the US stop junction or as we would think of it, suicide cross roads.
Hare = Jack Rabbit. Pubic Hare is Brare Rabbit's friend.
Wellies = Gumboots So named after the Duke of Wellington. "I gave it some welly" - I accelerated excessively.

That should do for now - hope this helps. *good*

Hunter,
Not bad you are correct its a 10/22 with a modified choate stock.
The usual power custom and volquartson internals muzzle brake is for an AR15, Torch is actually a laser and the scope is a 2.5-5x20 on weaver mounts and rail the magazines are 25 rd butlers. I did looked at brining in some 50 rd pro mags but think I will wait on
Barrel is cut to 12" legal in this country (about the only thing that is) but a class 3 in yours I believe
