my buddie and me are looking into getting some crow decoys. Have any of you lads any tips and quantity wise,or place to purchase some. I have shot the odd unlucky crow and pigeon flying over but never shot any on a big scale, reason being i have never been out in search of them. To busy shooting Ruffs  Rothers |

Rothers, I made them myself with a couple pieces of polystrene-plate. stick them togheter and cut the crows out of it in the format you want, the pôsture you want.. its easy, and after that you paint them black. Mine work perfect, succes! |

You will find some good deals on Ebay. However you can also spray pigeon shells matt black and they will work. Putting pigeons in the decoy pattern also helps. The yanks say a crow profile will also entice them in but of course this is only from a distance and from the right direction. Anyone who shoots crows or pigeons will tell you the real thing i.e. a shot bird is probably the best decoy, I was chatting to "The Crowminator" the other day and he found propping the crows heads up on sticks made a difference. I'm sure you'l get his three pence worth sooner or later. photopro |

Thats all i did, about 6 pigeon decoys painted black and i had them in my rucksack one time i was pigeon shooting, noticed there were plenty of black ones flying about, so set them out around the pattern and they soon came crashing in, i got about 17 rooks/crows that day and only a couple of pigeons, so its tried and tested! they do the job well
:D And you should notice that once you start hitting them and doing as Hawkeye does, and propping there heads up with twigs they really start decoying well. Shooting woodpigeon is fun but shooting corvids, to me because there so wise, is a lot more enjoyable. *good* |
