well guys was at the pub last night with my brother,we bumped into one of his friends who he hadnt spoken to for a while and his dad was also there,i got speaking to both and found out that both shoot. the dad used to be a game keeper and is also a instructor at a local clay club when i say local its five minutes away, but its kept rather quiet never heard of it before. well him and his son both shoot there every sunday and he has invited both me and my brother down on sunday,he said if all goes well and i enjoy it he will have a word with them and see if he can get them to let me join :D
so again ive struck lucky by being in the right place at the right time,im well excited never been shotgunning before **yahoo**

Hitting clays is not like shooting an air gun or rimmy. You need to swing the gun along the line of the target (clay) and as you pull the trigger keep swinging, in other words keep the gun moving. For targets further away give it some "lead" (that's leed not led) and again keep the gun moving. The technique is not as easy as it sounds but if you can do it you will be successful. *Benelli*

I've only used a shotgun a few times, but I found the best thing to do is get any tips you can and have a think about it before you start shooting. This allows you to let things "flow", but if you have someone beside you saying "do this, do that" it will put you off more than help you. This is just my opinion as a very inexperienced shotgun user, others my totaly disagree.
Anyway, I hope it goes well and you enjoy it. *good*

I have been to few different clubs, some of the lads are keen hunters and some have never shot live quarry before.
Keep an an eye out for the lads with all the perazzi gear on.
Just because they are kitted out in all the gear ei, skeet vests ,ear defenders, shooting glasses, and last but not least friggin gloves.
just because they look the part doesnt mean they can hit jack s**t.
dont get me wrong some of theese lads are tops.
Watch their stance, they know what flight path the clay is going to take, and they have taken aim before the command pull is shouted.
Imagine a rough shooter walking the trash like a bloody SAS stormtrooper. -Fun1-
Our Rough shoot club practice clays every 2 weeks through the close season so it keeps us all active.
Our club has both electric and manual traps.
With the manual you dont know where the clay is going,so they make it a lot more realistic.
With the electric it takes the same flight path unless the wind catches the clay.
So heres a few tips.
1,Be aware of the clubs safety policy.
2,Keep both eyes open(serious)
3,if the clay is travelling infront and away ,cover with both barrels then shoot.
4, if the bird is crossing infront swing and follow the clay through and shoot a foot or so in front.

Dont be put off if you are not doing so well and dont point a loaded gun at the trapman.
And the bonus is if you are a decent shot you may get invites from a few of the lads.
And a very good tip if you are shooting well, and some one askes you do you shoot a lot say "no" and would like a go at shooting rabbits, pigeons crows ect.
Dont let on that you have been hunting for years ,and that you have 100s of acres of prime shooting land.Thats when they will take you under there wing and give you free days out. *cheers*
Good luck and score well.

Been on a couple clay shoots this summer (every summer) and it go's better now.
It's like PP say's, keep the gun swinging, and its a good trick to swing the gun into target's direction while you say "pull". :)
In fact, there's no explanation how to do it, it's more a trick. There's a guy on that shooting's, who misses his fore arm on the left, with an accident 10 years ago, who says he never shoot better since  and all becouse he have no other option then "swing his gun", he's one of the best shooters there.
Also the way you standing there is important, m yenglish is not good enough to explain that in detail, but you can ask hawkeye how he do that, he"s the pro here.

If you have never shot clays before, you may find it quite hard to start off, but really take notice of any help you get.
Rothers describes it well, and once you get into the swing of things, you'll be suprised how much easier it gets.
One of the first times i shot clays, i joined in a competition with a group of the local wildfowlers club, at the end of the shoot id missed every shot 0/25!!! how daft did i feel? :(
But once id got the hang of things, it i joined in again, only a few months later and i beat all of them, hitting 23 out of 25! (how daft did they feel!) :D
that was my peak *lol* i now hit an averege 17-18/25
It takes time, but you will really enjoy it! *hunter+crow*

I have re-instated a limited edit function. You can edit your own posting up to one hour after you have posted it. Should be enough to correct those typo errors KO? ( *lol* )

Me and Win22 was having a bash at the clays on saturday, testing out a pair of old auto 5's and i had a terrible morning, couldnt hit a barn door! **sgun**
I put it down to not been used to the gun i was using.....well thats my excuse and im sticking to it! :D
But 9/25 for a first time is a good result, thats about 3 more than i hit yesterday.
Keep at it Jamie, you should be shooting at olympic level in a couple of years! :D
