Took the Miroku out today for a walk, just an hour or so, and plonked myself next to a tree in a small wood.. Waited about 5 mins: then a Woodie came zooming past on the wind , over the tops of the trees, now I have not shot a 12g for over 10 years and was wondering how I would get on, without thinking I put the gun up to the sky and "BANG" the Pigeon crumpled in mid air and crashed through the tree canopy and onto the leaf strewn floor. Perfect I thought but would I hit the next one? Was that just pure "beginners" luck or is this just like riding a bike? This was soon to be answered as a Crow called in the distance, I peeped around the tree trunk and saw said Crow making his way towards me. I waited and sure enough he came into the killing area, "BANG" He folded his wings and thumped to the ground! Well I thought, it IS like riding a bike! This shot disturbed other Crows on a neighbouring field and their calls filled the sky, would one come over? YES, As they circled above, the edge of their circle was just out of range and over a railway line onto someone elses land so I waited and one broke away, it was the last thing that it ever did.. I continued to wait for another pigeon but there were non showing, a succession of Gulls passed over, some seriously high Crows but no Woodies! Then from the edge of the wood I heard the distinctive chatter of a Magpie..Could I get him over here? No matches, s**t! Then as if on demand another one replied to him from the other side of the wood, there was I, sandwiched between these two birds, would one come, I eagerly waited to see if one or the other would venture my way, the calls continued then from my left one appeared, (and you guessed it) BANG! One less Maggie in this world!
:D So, 4 shots, 4 kills, Now I do'nt expect to keep up this ratio at all, but not a bad start with a new gun after all these years and it's nice to know that I have still got my eye in so to speak!

Well done DM, confidence in the gun you are shooting makes a lot of difference, there is no reason why you shouldn't be as successful next time out. *good* photopro |

Show off! Good story though mate, you were lucky to get a maggie there, they seem so wary. I'm pleased you're happy with the gun after having been unsure at first. Looks like I'm going to need some serious tuition to keep up when my SGC comes  . |

Swapped it for a 98 year old Winchester 1897. But it was a very good gun had it for about 10 years. |
