this is belgian stuff :P
there are a couple variety's in belgium. the "mechelse" shepard (first bred in my hometown, "mechelen" (from the video)
the "groenendael" (black long hair), the" tervurens" also longhair (but more a family dog) and the "laekense" (same character as the mechelse, rough hair)

The way they jumped, they'd be able to catch a startled pheasant without it needing
to be shot!
Location :- Hull

Never hit a man with glasses. Hit him with a baseball bat!

Don't let your mind wander - it's too little to be let out alone!

Bucko,

Todays "KC" show bred German shepherd's working abilities are long gone, togheter with the type, the character and performance of these dogs is lost.

But there is light at the horizon, since the wall get down and east germany is open again, more and more people who breed them go there for new GS blood, there are fantastic guard dogs there, from the old times "Stasi guard dogs", big and characterfull old type German shepherds. I spoke a retired policeman today(dog handler) who says that old types GS bite double hard as a "mechelse" shepherd.

Yes, and they are obedient as hell, (the mechelse) you can trow away your leash becouse no need for it anymore ;)
one snap with your finger or a short wistle, and they do whatever you want them to do.
when I was a kid (14 or so) we had a bitch and a dog at home, he only listend to me! ( I gave him food every day):) becouse no one else could handle the dog, not even my dad B)
spend some fine years with him.
and one day I buy me another.

I guess in real life the guy with the gun would have shot the dog as it was running at him. .
