I can never tell the difference in performance. Ive often wondered myself just why they have different types of wads. I suppose the paper and felt wads are more enviromently friendly - But im sure sure someone has an answer.

I would go for fibre every time. No worries about farmers livestock eating them or anything ;) .

It is down to a better shot pattern and no doubt easier and cheap to manufacture.

I remember those "Rottwieller" carts that DM brought to Cotton Dale. I dont know about getting a kick, fireing these was like getting punched in the shoulder by Mike Tyson.
Horrible little things! :D

Plastic wads are specifically designed to create a cushion effect on the initial thrust to stop the shot from clumping together and deforming thus creating (alledged) better pattern but good pattern can ALSO be acheived with good quality chokes.

There ARE bio degradable plastic wads now which disolve AND i read an article not too long ago where they were trying out fibre wads which were shaped just like plastic wads to create the same cushion effect.

You will find MOST people choose plastic for 2 main reasons

1 is of course the price as most cheap carts are plastic wads

2 is the pattern or alledged pattern as I have used fibre wads in the past and have had no trouble at all with the pattern or with the end results.

The latest research by BASC seems to indicate that fibre wads give better patterns than plastic!!
