One wet day last week went to a dealer having a 'real' sale, ended up with a new Winchester X2 semi-auto m/c listed at £495 got it for £295 plus the same discount on carts etc. Cleaned it up and tested it out on some card board to sort out the choke - then went looking for some crows wishing to go to 'Verminhalla'. Sent a few on their way plus a few pigeon the odd squirrel and a rat, so pleased. Any advice welcome on semi-autos - cleaning, user tips etc. |

Many thanks for a balanced responce, I put this topic on at work yesterday & for once wanted to get back to work to find your responces - many thanks. I put say 25 rnds through on the first day - felt great but found the gas mech a bit sticky and normal barrel crud - cleaned out with gun oil. I have an old hushpower 12g with loads of holes in the barrel + baffles - the gas in the outer sleeve leave quite a crud, I clean the barrel every time but the outer say every 250 rnds - needs a wire brush. My expensive Hushpower barrel cleaning tool to get past the baffles consists of a piece of scrap washing m/c hose with a piece of fishing rope off a beach down the centre + 2-paper towels from work as a pull through. Hopefully, I should get out for an 'interactive nature walk' over the weekend. |

Cheers Nige - Afters years on the estate I can't stand going to visit 'nature reserves' - staying on the path etc - I always feel like getting a gun or chainsaw out or when thirsty simply light a fire and get a brew on. Its interesting in one old woodland nature site I help out on ( with chainsaws & fires, bit touchy about the shotty) there are 200 nest boxes but no vermin control = magpies/squirrels, so few small birds, but on the estate - no nest boxes but good vermin control = loadsa small birds. |

I clean my semi-auto every time I use it. I think the most important thing is to make sure all the mechanism is almost completely dry after cleaning. I think jamming problems are due to muck sticking to oil or cleaning fluid. Cleaning prevents corrosion, but there is no need to leave oil all over the working parts as it just collects the soot and dust. |
