Do what Hawkeye does, shut your eyes and hope for the best! Best bloke to ask would be Big Al, he's the best shot I've seen for years on clays! :) |
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? ....... He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

The 4 B,s Bum Belly Beak Bang. After the bang just keep swinging. But don't follow any advice i give cos most of the time i couldn't hit em even if i had one of these *QQQ* As for clays i wouldn't embarrass myself trying to shoot them :D |

Is there some sort of formulae for working out where to aim? I haven't had much experience with shotguns, but when I have shot them at pigeons, I've noticed that I seem to do better when I 'don't try too hard!' Sutty's (good) advice to me is just to 'point the gun where you think the bloody thing is going to be when the lead gets there!' After some trial and error, I sort of got the hang of it. People like Photopro/Hawkeye/Dangermouse, who have had a lot of experience and are very successful, probably 'just know' where to shoot! One day, I'll 'just know' where to shoot, and be as good as them :) (Sorry for the compliment fellas, I'll try not to do it again )

I strongly beilieve that the more i think about lead, swing and aiming the more i miss, i have much more sucsess with snap shots than i do if i have time to aim and think about shot placement? After a time, if you have the right gun that fits YOU and dont spend too much time fiddling with chokes etc,IMHO, your sub concious takes over (to some extent) and you begin to use the gun as an extention of your arm. (cant wait till it happens to me )Well thats my two penneth. Just as an after thought i will be AIMING at Brandsburton,so thats why i didn't get many. Cheers Sutty PS Thats Sub-concious as opposed to NIGE'S style of SEMI- concious  |

What a question - no set answer to this one, there are a number of factors to consider. When shooting clay pigeons , you have the advantage over a game shooter in that you know where the target is coming from and going to, so you can plan your shot prior to calling for the target. You select your pick up point ie the place you put your bead on the target, and then select your kill zone - the place where you pull the trigger !. If you are right handed you have your feet in the 2 O'Clock position with your left toe ponting at your kill zone, leave your feet in this position and swivel your body back to the pick up point, lift your barrel so it lines up with your right eye in line with where the target will be - remember eye muzzle target. Call for the clay when it comes into view put your bead on it go with it and as you reach your kill zone pull through it and fire. This method allows you to forget how much lead - it works itself out. The BIG problem with rifle shooters is that they AIM at the target , consequently they miss behind. Remember keep that barrel swinging !!. Give it a try - hope it works for you. Al
