Were you shooting in an enclosed area?

I shoot near all the time without plugs and have no trouble what so ever!

I only really notice when I am shooting DTL under a canopy!!!

Other than that I have no bother at all!

Ear damage caused by shooting is accumulative- so the odd time that you forget
your ear defenders won't matter too much. If you make a practice of shooting
without ear defenders, then you will damage your hearing, whether you
shoot outdoors or indoors. :(

Yes they did DM. At first they just gave us the sponge ones that fit in your ears.

Then later, we were issued with the 'full external' type. If you went on the range
and were caught without ear defenders, then you were in deep 'doodoo'!

Believe me guys you must wear your ear protection.

I suffer from tinitus. Shooting related, well it certainly hasn't helped.
The constant ringing drives me -HB-

No it's not bells and no i don't look like quasimodo :D

I always wear them whilst clay shooting as I tend to get very nice headaches if not.
But sometimes whilst shooting rabbits or Pigeons I tend not to bother, especially with the pigeons - I like to hear them coming in. *hunter+crow*

I only hunt with an airgun so it does not really worry me, however I could see it being a problem on rough shoots and when stalking.
On the occasions I have been out with live rounds I do find it rather loud and for the next few minutes you lose sensitivity, a bit like night vision after you look at a bright light.

I funnily used some spongy inserts last night for the first time.
Not so much for the noise ,but for the banter the boys give you if you hit or miss.
If you are shooting crap on the night you get the tuts.
And if you are shooting like a demon ,you get the coughs.
The ear plugs certaintly take away all that piss taking. *lol*

But yes i will be looking to invest in a set of those Napier low noise gadgets, just for clays.
Last night I had 7 rounds of down the line and 2 rounds on the 410 on the manual juba trap.

Eh wat u say mush! *good*

having a bath with your socks on !!

My right ear is a bit prone to pain from industrial noise- oil tanker engine rooms etc in the past, so I use ear defenders but push the left one back a bit at times. Between chainsaws and shotties they could degrade hearing.

In the west a person of 35 yrs has the same hearing as a 70yr old living in a quiet part of the world.

So it could sound like'" having a laugh with your jocks on" in a few years.

I think you have to use protection. Once your hearing is gone then that's it. Game over.
