As with most things, consider how easy it will be to resell it should you need to in the future. I always try to buy the best quality I can, it costs more but in the long run it is worth it.

*BT* I have owned a Baikal, they are made quite poorly, quality wise, but they do the job and are relatively reliable. With a baikal you get what you pay for. Don't let that put you off. Spares are available easily, so that goes in their favour. They are cheap enough to buy a second hand one ,until you can afford a better one , then scrap it. *good*
Beware of unknown makes where spares are unavailable and have to be manufactured by a gunsmith.

Go for a s/h Browning or Baretta. You won't go wrong with either.

£500 should get you a cracking gun.I never felt the need to own the best of the best as I will never be the best shooter,so something that fits that is serviceable is the way forward maybe. For me anyway.I like my AYA,s and my Hushpower.Am on similar budget.Plenty folk like Baikal and reckon theyre bomproof.

Maybe I've used the worst Baikal out there - Some S/S that a mate had, and I can honestly say that was the worst ever SG that I've ever shot, My mate liked the look of them and bought 2 of them for the grand total of about £120 only when he first used them - he realised he'd just wasted his money. But dont let this put you off, theres bound to be some good ones out there (Sorry all you Baikal owners)

But with a £500 budget, your going get a decent gun for that. *good*

You always get what you pay for, if it's cheap there a good reason why it's cheap. You don't get a Mercedes for the cost of a Fiat Punto. Go for the best quality you can, you will also have something decent to trade or sell when you want to change it.
