Some clubs have daft rule about no semi-autos, but if your club doesn't, they are a great option. £400 will get you a good second hand browning or baretta, steer clear of guns that are this sort of price new. Generally speaking, manufacturers have their reputations for a reason. I got a quality semi-auto browning for under £300 so keep your eye out for a bargain. O/u's are generally easier to get on with than s/s's but tend to be heavier.

Semi auto's and pump action Shotguns are restricted to 3 shots unless you have them listed on a fire arms lic: You can have either of these, but they will normally be a no no on game! Great for pigeon shooting though! :)

Not on your life, I wouldn't shoot a driven day if it was free. *feck* I can rough shoot game (but don't), decoy pigeons and crows, shoot rabbits foxes and deer all for free, so why would I want to pay for it???? :P :P :P :P

Keep trying mate, things can only get better. You may find that if you are already shooting for somone in the area, mentioning this when you ask can help. When it comes to getting permission I've got it fairly easy due to my work, and if they think they're going to get something for nothing they often jump at it. :)
Best of luck. *good*

give them a call LW, ask how long it will be and they might push it on a bit for you! ;)

Evening, I too have just got my certificate today, been
on www.guntrader.co.uk they seem to have a huge amount
of guns for sale and you can search by dealers/ counties etc...

I have this morning been to look at a Lincoln Premier and Lamber
sporting for similar purposes around the £400 mark. However
it seems that if you can stretch to the £500 mark you can buy
brand new the Lincoln Premier Basic & Bettinsolli Diamond, So I
might be saving a few more pennies yet! *good*

Both the Lincoln Premier Basic & Bettinsolli Diamond are good guns for the money, I used to have a Bettinsolli Diamond and it did the job very well indeed!
