Hi all, Have a lump of questions regarding getting a Sec 1 shotgun ... I have an FAC and SGC. On my FAC I have a free slot for a .308 rifle and I'd like to swap this for a high capacity shotgun - so far so good. However ... 1. The form you have to use is the same as one used for a new FAC application, and there's no provision on it for removing/swapping an existing authorisation. According to the Met Police website, any application which doesn't increase the total number of firearms held doesn't incur the £26 variation fee :) so I need to make it clear on the form that I wish to swap the existing authorisation for a new one. Any ideas on how best to do this? 2. For a normal Sec 1 application, you have to state number of rounds purchased/held etc. As this will take the same cartridges as my O/U so I can just buy them on my SGC, do I need to specify this at all? 3. Good reason - would putting 'on suitable land with permission' and 'vermin control' be appropriate to put on the form? Should I get my 1st 'permission' beforehand? Thanks for this. Need a bit of a head start before I go blundering in and cause delays by messing up the forms. Some words of wisdom would be much appreciated! Bigmart |

You will have to speak to your local Police licensing unit or FLO. Your 5 shot auto (or whatever) falls between a SGC & an S1. Whether they allow you to add it to your S1 without charge is a matter of debate - I think they should however...... As for the ammunition you will still need to agree on seperate quantities, it is classed as an S1 SG. Otherwise if you gave up you "standard" SG cert and sold your O/U you wouldn't have any ammunition specified for your S1 SG. As for the permission - it is alway advisable to have this side agreed and sorted as the Police always check. You should find it easier though since you are already an S1 certificate holder. photopro |

The S1 Shotty should be a simple one for one swap on the license.. However, personally I would pay the £26.00 and keep the 308 on as you never know when you might want one!

You only need to list the amount of ammo to keep ie numbers if you are wanting slugs for the shot gun... I have a S1 shotty... and a few other members do on here.... you dont need to list purchaching ..... or the total to keep..... as ammo is not really considered on there.. which is kinda funny as I dont have a SGC.... lol... just a section 1 cert.... lmao anyway put in for the variation... and dont swap the rifle for the shotgun.... its not any better than having a sgc.... it is just that your capable of containing more rounds ...... btw.. if you need slugs..... you need some darn good reasons to have them!!!!! |

Thanks for the feedback peeps! To be honest I don't really want to give up the .308 but the trouble is, in an ideal world I'd like to do some stalking as well. And fox shooting (something like a 22-250 probably better for that). Recking I'm just being tight about the £26! Either way I reckon I should get some 'permission' sorted fairly soon, and it sounds like that will oil the wheels somewhat - it's taken me a year or so to decide the direction of shooting I want to take - and hunting is the one for me ... :ph43r: Thanks again for the feedback. Only been a member for a short while but it's great. Hope to be able to share some hunting experiences with you all sometime soon!! Cheers BM B) |

:D Hi mate where you from as your profile dosent say Differant police areas have differant rules if you are thinking of a 22-250 swift buy new not secondhand as they are barrell burners and second hand they are probably half way knackerd why not try a .222 or .223 as they are cheeper rounds and also cheep to reload for *good* |

I'm from Swindon in Wiltshire. Need to sort out my profile I think
 The firearms team that covers this area have been pretty efficient so far, and certainly helpful. Thanks for the tip on a foxing rifle. Might be a good one to swap for the .308 as stalking can be expensive  When I get time (ha!) I'll start asking around local farms looking for a rabbit problem that needs solving *QQQ* Cheers Bigmart |
