At last, I got one! I went out and put ten snares down on Wednesday, and I've been checking them twice a day, and nothing
:( Went out this morning, and thought 'sod it' And started taking them in, when I found a bunny in one of them :) I've decided to leave them out now as they do seem to be in more or less the right place after all - maybe they just needed to weather in or something?Anyway, most of the bunny (a nice big buck) is now 'chilling out' in the freezer, and the 'red meat' from inside is going down the ferrets. The kits are really tucking in, and look a right mess with blood all over themselves! |

Well done Nige, I tried snares a few years back and gave it up as a bad job, an art that I never mastered. :D |
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? ....... He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Well, I've got them in the right places anyway. Checked them again this morning, after putting some more out last night; one of them had caught something by the leg, by the looks of it, and it had managed to struggle free, leaving some of its fur behind (bummer!!) and another two in a different area were the same; so I reset them all, and raised the loops a little bit higher - then went and shot a rabbit in the head :D Nice 25 yard shot, and it's mates never bothered at all, untl the dog went running out! |

Depends on where you set them photopro, if you set them in the right place it doesn't make a bit of difference. I regularly spin up new snares and set them the same night and get big numbers in them, you just have to know what your doing. |

sorry about the delay Netter (internet problems). One of the snares had been pulled tight, and had some rabbit fur caught in the loop, which at the time was about a half centimeter round. The other two the same, but with no fur. |

Whereabouts are you putting the snares compared to the beats (flat patches) what height to the underside and how long is the grass? It sounds as if the rabbits are just knocking the snares. |

As Badgeroy says the snares have been knocked, it sounds like your snares were set either too low or not on the beats, the rabbits have come along and hit the snares with their chests, then dropped a back leg into the snare now lying on the floor, pulled it tight then kicked it off, resulting in the snare pulled tight with a bit of fur in it. |

as they do seem to be in more or less the right place after all - maybe they just needed to weather in or something?
