I am off in the morning to see a ride on mower, we have one at the fatherinlaws but dont want to borrow, pain in the &rse,
there is an old one there to be fixed up, but i have been fixing it up for 5 years now, so just about f***ed,

I have spotted on for sale for £250 , umm, it dont sound much ,could be a pile of crap, he says it starts fine , electric start, 32 inch cut, 400cc 11hp briggs.
you never know it might be a bargain, early in the season , beat the rush of the others.

I had a bargain last year, e-bay , briggs stratton rotavator, tiller summat,,none runner,,i got it for £45 , the problem with them is spiders in the points, no spark.
So i purchased one of them Australian electonic timing things(not made anymore) electronic ignition box, £20 well what a good rotavator it is, starts second pull even after winter, hardly used i guess.

I have a Countax ride-on which is very reliable, the drive belts need to be replaced from time to time though.

it goes well, Dave, beat them northeners, lol

Well the bloke seemed straight enough, the machine is original, old but all there, from when they were made proper, lol

He says it has an engine splutter, backfires like f***.
it does.

I said i will take the gamble to see if i can sort it out, the engine sounds ok,all gears work, low range and high, electric blade engagement, new rear tyres, had a new diaphram in carb.

I loaded it on the trailer and home.

Started it up ,, brrmmm, phut, brmmmhigh revs ,lows revs,"BANG" backfire,,by now Bruce is in the house with his paws over his ears, shaking wildly. -Fun1-

I drove it into the orchard,it would hardly make enough revs to start the blade, up the revs, down ,bouncing on the auto rev advance, bang, bang,, i went a fair way then got some tools and had a fiddle, mixture , richness etc, not much different,,i had put more petrol in.

I tried again,,phut, bang, band, my ears were bleeding,, sh*t this is causing a noise pollution in the village *dielaugh*

Then brrmmmmm,,brrmmmmmm,,brmmmmmmmmm woosh, of we went , what ever it was cleared, i guess stale petrol was the cause because the carb had been in for service.

I mowed all the lawns, tried the grass colection on the house lawns, perfect, i sharpened the blades , cuts real well.

Here at the rear of the house i have spayed to kill the lawn and have this week rotavated the veg patch and now with old pallets fenced it off from Bruce,

Just got to paint it now,,,,wife where are you?
It seems i may have that bargain i was looking for,,,£250 , not alot is it.

I expected you to say the valves needed regrinding as it would have originally run on leaded fuel and unlead would cause valve seat damage. Is it a belt drive system, drive and blades ? As you said if either stop the belts are shot in no time. My Countax discharges backwards into the collector via a striping brush, useful 'cos you can also use it to pick leaves up. I also bought a chipper attachment which is an evil piece of kit, I swear it broke one of my fingers when it grabbed a branch and slammed the poor pinky with it. *crying*
