Inspect it regularly Tubs, traps of this size attract a lot of attention and you don't want to be investigated by the RSPB.

Yeah I will keep it checked often... Made in bolt together sections with wing nuts! So should fit. Don't want to have to rely on somebody else when I need to move it, and if I started using the tractor then I'm sure it will soon break.

They can be very successful traps, once one or two birds enter huge numbers can follow, it will be interesting to see how you get on with it.

I will keep you guys informed. It wasnt even difficult to build, i'm no joiner, and i kind of planned it as i went along only using a guide i read somewhere for the spacing of the ladder. Took me most of the day to get to that stage of the build. But pretty certain i could knock another up in about 2/3 hours to that stage if i was to make a second now.

Finished it this morning. Up and opperational for about an hour. Couldnt find a decent door catch kicking around the farm so i've used good old fashioned string.

Hopefully once the first one goes in we'll be sorted.

There is some lamb pellets in there, they love stealing that and calf blends, and obviously I've put some water in too. It's not the best location for the trap but can't put it in the field because the cattle will destroy it in no time by rubbing themselves against it. But they do spend a fair bit of time on the buildings.and the trees around the yard so hoping they will find it ok. They spend all of winter in the whole crop silage clamp where I've put it, cos there is barley and peas in there, and I've seen a few kicking round there this summer too picking up the sweepings from the floor.

Yes mate, thats exactly what it is. Our farm is the 'Home Farm' of the area, and once upon a time had a 3 storey manor house with U shaped stable block. Thats all gone now, but when we were digging inside one of the buildings thats sits where the house and buildings used to be, we did come accross the old cobbles that would have been the yard.

There is also a massive stone wall that incorporates about 2 acres that used to be the walled garden.

Not doing so well.... well not doing at all as it happens.

Too late in the season with regards to the availability of food out with my large wire cage? Or just the fact the the location isn't number one choice? Or should i put some food outside it too so they are enticed to the area?

Shot three tonight though whilst wondering with the dog, certainly made me feel a little more smug.

You will definately have to bait inside and out to get their confidence.

Try leaving the ladder of for a few days and put plenty of bait inside to get them used to going in.
Then after you see them going in and out with confidence put the ladder back on .. *Monkey Hanger* *Monkey Hanger*

John, when not in use it dismantles for easy inside storage, bolted sections with thum screws, so problem solved.

Cheers lads, i've taking one of the roof sections off tonight and scattered grub around the outside, will see what happens over the next week and take it from there.

Good going Tubs it looks like you've got the location right which as you probably know is important with any trap. You'll be leaving one or two in, with food, water and shelter of course to entice others ?

Not this time, as I never made a sheltered so thought I better not leave any. Will continue to feed it though, and will make a shelter and a perch for it so that next time it catches I can leave a couple in.

nothing has gone anywhere near, i moved it to a different location, and left half of the top off again and will feed it for a few days. I've made a little shelter and put a perch in, so will be able to leave a couple in this time of it catches.

Intelligent birds Crows though greedy bu99ers so a few live decoys should do the trick.
