Did the boy do right?

My youngest boy (Danny) who some of you know, was in the dinner queue at school today, when a.other lad tried to push in, and, when Danny wouldn't 'give way' the other kid punched him.
At that point, Danny punched the kid (twice, according to the school) which resulted in the instigator being rendered unconscious.
The school want us to punish Danny, and seemed a little 'perturbed' when both my wife and myself refused to punish the boy for defending himself!

So who is right here, the school, or my wife and I?

PS. He goes to Malet Lambert, not a North Bransholme borstal!
Location :- Hull

Never hit a man with glasses. Hit him with a baseball bat!

Don't let your mind wander - it's too little to be let out alone!

I would bet that if the teachers could comment in confidence everyone would agree that your lad was correct in what he did, my daughter slapped the class bully when she was 6 or 7 and we got the "official" line "we frown upon this type of action" etc etc but then in a hushed tone "we think she did exactly what he needed, good for her". After the episode he NEVER bothered her again, infact in later school life he was quite sweet on her but that's a different story.
Although it's PC gone mad, in the eyes of your lad it needed to be "reasonable force" to prevent him any further injury and given that he had to decide in a split second and that he had already been made the victim I think you can argue he was correct in his actions.

My oldest lad was was hounded for 5 yrs by 2 boys from the year above at school ,even with visits to the school numerous times each year because he was was becoming withdrawn and didnt want to go to school (the official line was they couldnt do anything) then 1 day he snapped and battered the biggest of the boys (they never went near him after that) we got pulled to school and were given an official 'lecture' but my lad got a pat on the back from the teachers unofficially -HB-

That,s the way it seems to be these days, the winner gets the blame, unless of course the winner is an ethnic minority then it's clearly a case of prejudice and the white kid is to blame by default!
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that who cares? ....... He's a mile away and you've got his shoes!
