Managua, Nicaragua

In the 37 years since the Carolinian invasion of Nicaragua, which toppled the short-lived communist government and instituted a pro-Carolinian democracy, the country had been at relative peace. However, in the past few years the economy had started to go south. Unemployment rose greatly, and it seemed that nothing could stop of. Many of the citizens blamed the current president, Juan Garcia, who was a year into his second term. However, on the morning of the 3rd everything would change. At 8:00 am a battalion of soldiers arrived at the presidential residence and began shooting at the guards, before marching inside and capturing Garcia. Across the capital, other government officials, including the vice president, the speaker of parliament, and several other key officials were also kidnapped, and several hours later the nation's top general, Jose Felipe Suarez, announced that the "corrupt government which had done nothing to stop the economic turmoil of our great nation" had been toppled, and he declared himself the dictator of the Nicaragua. He ordered all military units to swear allegiance to him, and while most did, some in other parts of the country did not, as they still supported the democratic government. By this time news of this had reached Raleigh, where President Andrew Williams joined with his top military advisers, generals, and intelligence advisers to decide what to do.

Raleigh, North Carolina, The Carolina Republic

Andrew Williams sat with his top advisers in the presidential conference room. The atmosphere was tense, everyone knew that the events going on in Nicaragua could spell disaster for their ally, along with the many thousands of Carolinian citizens who worked in the country for the several branches of Carolinian corporations that existed there. Williams was the first to break the silence.

"Do we know if Garcia is alive or dead?" he asked.

"We are uncertain, however we have reason to believe that he is still alive," said Allan Stevens, director of the TIA.

"Then I think our course of action is clear. We need to rescue him and the other government officials who were captured, and then deploy troops to assist the loyalist forces in squashing the military coup," said Secretary of Defense John Motter.

"What of our military forces already in the country? I know that we have several hundred military personnel there to defend the embassy and several consulates throughout the country, plus the 3,000 or so troops we have stationed at our naval air station in Puerto Cabezas," said Andrew Williams.

"They should be fine for now. All of our intelligence shows that the new regime isn't against us. They should be safe until we can land more troops in the country to defend them and restore the proper government," said Stevens.

"Very well then. In several days we will launch special operations raids to rescue the captured government officials, and then the following day we'll begin airstrikes before landing soldiers in the east of the country where the majority of the still-loyal forces are. We'll then close in on Managua and finish off this son of a bitch," said Williams. It was set. The Carolina Republic was going to war.

//I updated the map to include all the participating nations, the borders to Fiji's claim might not be exactly right because the person who made this map completely redrew India's provinces when he was dividing them up, but other than that it's accurate. I suggest that it's put in the opening post. http://i.imgur.com/xYUzXET.png //

Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua

The naval air station in Puerto Cabezas was the last Carolinian military base in Nicaragua, and had existed since the Nicaraguan War in the early 1980's. Stationed there were 3,180 servicemen, most of them naval airmen and ground crew, however there was a company of 200 marines stationed there. It was a major airbase in the Nicaraguan War, having launched thousands of sorties over the rebel-infested jungles. In 1989 is launched several dozen fighter sorties during the invasion of Panama, however in recent years the airbase had been mainly used to launch surveillance aircraft to look for drug smugglers coming up from Columbia.

However, on this day it would see its first combat operations since 1989. At 6:00 pm about 800 Nicaraguan soldiers approached the base. Posing as loyalist forces, they were allowed into the base to be given additional ammo and rations. However, as night fell over the base they showed that they were not loyalist forces at all. It was all a ruse. At roughly 11:00 pm, they attacked the few sentinels on duty on watch at the base and attacked the barracks. By the time any of the Carolinian soldiers knew what what happening hundreds were dead and hundreds more were inside the barracks, which the Nicaraguans had lit on fire. Over a thousand servicemen were killed, with the other 2,000 taken prisoner by the soldiers. The hangars holding dozens of surveillance aircraft, cargo planes, and a wing of F-16's were blown up. However, before the base was completely overrun one of the radio operators was able to put out a distress message to the embassy in Managua. News of the attack was then forwarded to Raleigh.

Carolinian Embassy, Managua, Nicaragua

The Carolinian embassy was a large complex of buildings, housing the Ambassador's residence, a barracks for the 80 marines stationed there to defend the embassy, a building to house the other embassy employees, and a consulate building. The embassy was rarely active at night, however this night was different. The marine contingent had set up makeshift barricades around the embassy, preparing to defend it from what seemed like a certain Nicaraguan attack. By now word of the attack in Puerto Cabezas had spread to Raleigh, and the Carolinian military was now scrambling to ramp up combat operations. An invasion which seemed like a week away earlier in the day was now being pushed forward to May 7th, however airstrikes were already being planned to begin in the early hours of the morning on May 4th. Although, for now, the embassy seemed all alone. The peaceful spring night was just a facade for what was to come. At 1:00 am the sound of gunfire began, shattering the peace of the night. Several hundred Nicaraguan soldiers loyal to the new dictator began their attack on the embassy, however unlike in Puerto Cabezas the Carolinians were ready for them. A firefight broke out, and after 30 or so minutes of fighting the Nicaraguans were forced to retreat. 15 of them laid dead across the urban battlefield, while only two Carolinian soldiers were killed and 3 more wounded. As morning came the airstrikes began. F-15E Strike Eagles flew from their bases in Cuba and dropped precision guided bombs on rebel targets all over the country. Nicaragua's only armored formation, loyal to the new dictator, had been en route to Managua and the Carolinian embassy when it was destroyed by the first wave of airstrikes.

However, despite the airstrikes, the Nicaraguan forces now reequipped and amassed in the capital for another attack on the embassy. This time is was 700 soldiers attacking the embassy, not 200. They launched their assault on the embassy at 8:30 in the morning, however the Carolinians were once again ready. Fighting lasted for an hour and a half before the embassy was finally overrun. 27 Carolinian troops were killed, 12 wounded, and 51 captured. The airstrikes only got larger in number, with 6 B1 Lancers flying from their airbase in Texas and wrecking havoc on military targets across the nation. However, in a speech delivered on Nicaraguan television, Dictator Suarez was still able to call the past 12 hours a "great victory for our nation", talking about how they "killed the Carolinian imperialists in their asses".

Imperium Romanum
Basileía Rhōmaíōn
The Roman Empire
The Eternal Rome
"Empire of Empires, Ruling Over Those Who Rule."

Truly, the Roman Empire is one of the oldest and proudest nations of this Earth. The country where the spirit of Rome had prospered, even after the Eternal City itself had fallen into barbarian hands... the former Eastern Roman Empire had however survived the history under the light of Constantinople, God's chosen Second Rome. For almost two millennia, the Imperator has ruled with an iron fist from Constantinople, increasing Rome's glory, power, and military might. Ever since the Ancient times, the Roman have been referring to their country, by the supreme power of the Imperators. The Imperium.. a word that evokes a proud patriotic sentiment among all Romans and Latins over the world. No other state has been granted the honor of being called an Imperium... the Romans call the other monarchies in the world by the distasteful "Regnum". Democracies are named by the simple Republica, and the authoritarian regimes like the communist ones only received a simple "Dictatura.." No state has ever surpassed Rome's eternal glory. And none ever will.

But unfortunately, even as glorious as it is, Rome's power is only a shadow of its former glory. Long gone are the times where the Roman armies controlled Europe, or even its Eastern side. Weakened by religious and ethnic conflicts, and the unfortunate outcome of the two World Wars, Constantinople only maintains its grip over a small territory, split between the ethnic chaos known as the Balkans, and the Latin-Turk Asia Minor. For so long, this ethnic fragmenting has caused this area, especially the Balkans, to become the "Powder Keg of Europe, " leading to all sorts of wars, from the Balkanic ones, to WW1. But that will change, soon.

A new age is rising over Constantinople. No longer will the Empire stay still against the Slavs and the Turks. No longer will it fail to impose its dominance... even with the price of another war.

Rise, Romans of the East, proud architects of a new, reborn Empire to light the world! Be ready for war!
I'm from Romania, and I'm a vampire in my free time...

1300 hours, May 4th, 2016

Airstrikes continued throughout the day as the Carolinian 2nd Fleet, home ported in Guantanamo Bay, prepared to begin the short journey to Nicaragua. The fleet, consisting of one of the Carolina Republic's Nimitz class carriers, two of its mobile strike ships equipped with 400 marines each, a Ticonderoga-class cruiser, 4 Arleigh Burke class destroyers, and 3 Jack Mehoff-class littoral frigates, which were carrying a platoon of 40 marines each, thus bringing the amount of combat troops carried by the force to 920. The Carolinian Navy's amphibious assault capabilities had been largely neutered since the late 90's, with the naval brass choosing to build five mobile strike ships based off of commercial designs as a cheaper alternative to formal amphibious assault ships and dock landing ships, and now the navy was regretting it. It would now take much more time to deploy troops to Nicaragua, however for now 920 would do. The fleet departed at 1400 hours, beginning the day long voyage to Nicaragua.

However, A Carolinian vessel was already close to the conflict. However, it wasn't a naval vessel, it was a Coast Guard vessel. The national security cutter CRCGC Oak Island had been stationed in Panama to combat drug smugglers when it unluckily found itself off the coast of Nicaragua on routine patrol when the coup happened. However, instead of head back to port, the captain of the ship decided to dock in several cities along the coast, including Puerto Cabezas, Prinzapolka, and Bluefields to rescue Carolinian nationals from these coastal cities. It had just departed Bluefields at 1200 hours on May 4th and was on its way to San Juan del Norte, the last pickup stop it would make along the coast. However, little did it know that 14 miles away on the shore was a coastal battery of 4 harpoon missiles, manned by pro-coup forces. Realizing it was a Carolinian ship, the battery fired 3 missiles at the ship. Two of them were destroyed by the ship's 20 mm Phalanx CIWS, however the third one found its mark. The Oak Island began to sank. Listing heavily to its right, the ship sank in only 15 minutes. 200 of the almost 300 people on board were able to get into life boats, however the other 100 were not so lucky. They went down with the ship, making it the most deadly disaster in the history of the Carolinian Coast Guard.

1500 hours, May 4th
Raleigh, NC, the Carolina Republic

President Williams had heard the news of the latest disaster caused by the Nicaraguans. Over 1100 Carolinians dead in just 24 hours he thought, thinking how it could have happened. But he could not dwell on this, as he was scheduled to meet with Secretary Collins of the Commonwealth of States. He walked from his office to the conference room where he was scheduled to meet with Collins in just 15 minutes. He sat down, and did something that a man is not supposed to do. He wept. How could such a small and unorganized army inflict such damage on us? he thought, continuing to sob. We're supposed to be a regional superpower. These things don't happen to superpowers. He thought of all the men and women who had been killed by Suarez and his troops in just short period of time. It was heartbreaking.

He had stopped crying, and he went to go freshen himself up before the meeting. When he returned Collins was arriving.

He greeted her, "Good afternoon, Miss Secretary."

//Hijjma, you respond. I give you permission to write Williams's dialogue.//
