HALLE, Germany -- Milos Raonics run at the Gerry Weber Open is over after Germanys Philipp Petzschner downed the eighth-seeded Canadian 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 in quarter-final play Friday. Petzschner will take on No. 2 seed Tomas Berdych after the Czech downed fifth-seeded Viktor Troicki 7-6 (3), 6-1 to reach the semis. In other quarter-final play, German Philipp Kohlschreiber eliminated defending champion Lleyton Hewitt 7-6 (4), 6-3, and will face third-seeded Gaels Monfils, who topped No. 6 Florian Mayer 6-4, 6-4. Petzschner, the Wimbledon doubles champion from last year and semifinalist in Halle, broke Raonics first service game and held serve deep into the second set. Petzschner failed to capitalize on a 5-2 lead in the second-set tiebreaker as Raonic, of Thornhill, Ont., took two service points off the German and won 8-6. In the third set, Petzschner broke Raonics opening service game again and jumped to a 3-0 lead. The German failed to convert three break points for 5-1 but won when Raonics backhand drop attempt went into the net after nearly two hours. "I am very happy that I could repeat my success from last year," Petzschner said. "Well see what else is possible." It wasnt all bad news for Raonic as he and partner Robin Haase of the Netherlands defeated Hewitt and fellow Australian Peter Luczak 6-7 (6), 7-6 (4), 10-5 later Friday to advance to the doubles final. Berdych fended off three break points in the early stages of the first set against Troicki, which went to a tiebreaker. Berdych took two points off Troickis serve for a 4-1 lead he did not surrender. Berdych broke Troicki in the fourth game for a 3-1 advantage and took a 5-1 cushion on a second break. Troicki fought off three match points in the next game before Berdych blasted a forehand winner on the fourth match point. "I am finally feeling on the court how I would like to feel," said Berdych, last years Wimbledon finalist, who needed just one hour 21 minutes to beat the Serb. "Its still not 100 per cent. But I am finally getting the right rhythm. "I was quite confident from the beginning of the game that I could do well. So maybe thats why I looked calm." Berdych has been viewed as the favourite after Roger Federer withdrew before the tournament started. Monfils and Mayer, meanwhile, each broke in the first set before Monfils earned his second break in the 10th game to take the set 6-4. Monfils broke Mayers serve for a 4-2 lead in the second set only to see the German break right back. The Frenchman picked up a match point on Mayers serve in the 10th game and finished the match in one hour four minutes on a forehand down the line. "Im number eight in the world so this isnt really a surprise," Monfils said. "Im happy with the way I am playing on the grass. And this is great preparation for Wimbledon." Hewitt, who won Halle last year on his debut, will have been pleased to have played three single matches this week in his first tour action since March after foot and ankle injuries. Kohlschreiber, the 2008 finalist, and Hewitt held serve in the first set, before the German picked up a mini break for a 4-2 lead in the tiebreaker and won it five points later. Kohlschreiber secured the only break of the match for 5-3 and finished off Hewitt with an ace on his first match point. "I dont know anything that really didnt work today," Kohlschreiber said. "Im happy that things just went well. I couldnt really do anything wrong today." http://www.louisvuittonoutletshop.com/Women-zs-16_Louis-Vuitton-Sunglasses-jl-49/. Theyre also making plays -- and Frank Kaminsky came up two huge ones to beat No. 15 Iowa on Saturday. Kaminsky had 21 points and a crucial late steal as Wisconsin won 79-74 for its fifth straight win after a 1-5 stretch marked by poor shooting. http://www.louisvuittonoutletshop.com/. Armin Niederer was fourth and maintained his lead in the skicross standings. Smith, of Switzerland, crossed the line ahead of Canadas Kelsey Serwa for her sixth World Cup success and moved ahead of Marielle Thompson in the standings. http://www.louisvuittonoutletshop.com/Women-zs-16_Louis-Vuitton-Shoes-fv-88/. Huberdeau scored a goal and had two assists in Fridays 7-0 victory over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar, and now has 27 points in only 12 games.VANCOUVER -- The battle between two of the top strikers in womens soccer went decisively to Abby Wambach. Wambach took the spotlight from Canadian star Christine Sinclair, scoring a pair of goals as the United States downed Canada 4-0 in the final of the CONCACAF Olympic qualifying tournament. Wambach and Sinclair were tied at 129 career international goals heading into the game, with Sinclair leading the tournament with nine goals. But the Americans were able to shut down Sinclair, while Canadas defence had a hard time controlling Wambach and the United States deeper offence. Both teams had already qualified for the 2012 London Games but pride was on the line as their star forwards tried to gain ground on the all-time scorers list to close in on Mia Hamms 158 goals. With her two goals, Wambach passed American Kristine Lillys career total of 130 and moved into sole possession of second place on the all-time list. "At halftime, (forward Alex Morgan) reminded me of that actually being the case," Wambach said. "I wasnt aware. I was kind of focused in on the game. (Lilly) emailed me a couple days ago and she ssaid to go ahead and tie me already and why dont you go ahead and beat me already.dddddddddddd But dont make it a toe-poke, make it a nice goal." Sinclair, however, was hardly given a shot at goal all night. Oftentimes, when she came into possession of the ball, she would find herself double-teamed by American defenders. "Theyre a strong, physical team and sometimes if you take a few too many touches, youre pushed off of it," Sinclair said. "Earlier in the tournament we could afford to take those touches and we could still shield the ball." While Sinclair is known for the number of goals shes scored, she also assists on just about as many. In the first half she showed that passing ability as she put Christina Julien in alone on American goalkeeper Hope Solo. Julien missed that chance as well as another later in the half, underscoring just why the Americans are the best team in the world. "In the first half, it was 3-0 but they had four shots," said Sinclair. "Theyre clinical in front of goal and we had a couple chances and didnt score and it cost us dearly." ' ' '
