Stan Van Gundy is a terrific coach; one of the best in the NBA. I feel bad for him right now. Its all slipping away for him and he knows it. I think he was wrong to say that Dwight Howard wants him out. As a head coach you must take the bullets, even when its not fair. Thats part of leadership. Van Gundy looks and sounds resigned to the fact that hes done. Im sure he figured, Hey, Im not going to protect a guy like Howard who I have no respect for anymore. If you make a comment like that, youre forcing your employers hand. Theres no way he resigns; hes as big of a quitter as Howard then. Plus that way he doesnt get his money. Ultimately, his days are numbered and thats too bad. The guy is top-notch. Plenty of GMs will have his agent on speed-dial and he knows it. Van Gundy should sit out, collect his money, enjoy his family and wait until a good job opens. As for Dwight Howard: enough already. Man up and stop acting in a bratty, immature and phony way. Hey, youre a pending free agent. You hold the cards. Youre a sensational player and you dont want to play in Orlando if Van Gundy is your boss. You claim you want to win a championship. If so, be ruthless and loyal to one thing and one thing only - winning. If you have no respect for Van Gundy, say it and say you wont play if hes there. Sure, youll get bashed but who cares. If youre someone that cares about the end justifying the means, then man up, take action and be decisive. Your phony approach and constant changing of your mind is destroying your franchise; enough already. What do you really want? Everyone wants to go to Heaven but no one is willing to die to go there. You want what you want in your career so you should go for it and make no apologies. Youre one of the few folks in the world that can get away with this behavior, might as well get over on folks. The bottom line is this situation is an utter disgrace. A good man is having his livelihood messed with by a spoiled/out of touch wealthy player who happens to be a wonderful talent. The player always wins, fine. Lets stop the charade. Feel bad for the fans, ownership, sponsors, other teammates and the coaching/support staff. Everyones been taken hostage.
